SUMMARY:Alter Ego Fifth Exhibition: Globalistation
DESCRIPTION:The fifth exhibition by Guilherme Gafi (Brazil) and Wasted Rita (Portugal) broadens the spectrum of analysis\, looking into the concept of interaction between people and larger entities and the interchanges that occur in an increasingly connected world. SUMMARY:Mgm Cotai Presents Innovative Works of Alter Ego Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Alter Ego is the 1st Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries\, and as the only integrated resort operator in Macau to participate in the festival\, MGM is a key partner of the event. To show their commitment MGM Cotai is running an illusionary floor art piece by Portuguese artist Add Fuel\, and a site-specific digital installation by Pedro Ferreira and Rita João. \nAlter Ego is one of the highlights of the inaugural Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. The Arts Exhibition displays representative artworks from Mainland China\, Macau\, Hong Kong\, Portugal\, Angola\, Brazil and many other Portuguese-speaking countries\, presenting the current tendencies of contemporary art in China and the Portuguese-speaking countries. The exhibition Alter Ego is an exploration of the seminal idea exercised through the expression of contemporary art\, and delves deeply into the intricacies of the construction of the self in order to expose the true nature of its relationship with the other\, as well as with the outside world in general. \nDuring the exhibition\, Stratum 03 by Portuguese artist Add Fuel and Digital Best Guess by Pedrita Studio (Pedro Ferreira and Rita João) will be shown at MGM Cotai’s Spectacle\, immersing visitors in an imaginative world of art. Portuguese visual artist and illustrator Add Fuel re-interprets the language of traditional tile design and creates the Stratum 03 floor art piece\, leading visitors to question the reality of what is present in their immediate physical surroundings through the use of color gradient. Meanwhile\, the Digital Best Guess by the Pedrita Studio is shown on the world’s largest area of permanent indoor LED screens at the Spectacle. In this digital installation\, the portraits are produced with trims of reclaimed industrial Portuguese tiles from the 60’s to the 90’s\, and will be alternated with a patchwork of tiles that today are extremely rare\, but that are easily recognizable as part of many places familiar to Portuguese people. \nWhen: August 1–September 24 \nWhere: Avenida Da Nave Desportiva\, Cotai \nHow much: Free \nFor more information please call +853 8802 8888 or visit their website

SUMMARY:Landscape of Change – Macao Watercolor Paintings from the MAM Collection
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition with works from the Macao Art Museum (MAM) collection will feature watercolor paintings of old Macau. The pieces are from the mid-19th century to the 20th century and present a landscape of Macau you have never seen. It is arranged in four sections\, namely\, The Coastline\, Peaceful Time\, Fishing Sceneries and Modern Glitz. Through the perspective and works of more than 20 Chinese and Western artists\, the exhibition showcases Macau’s topographical\, landscape and social transformations over the last century or so\, while at the same time allowing visitors to appreciate the rich and diverse styles presented by different artists in their watercolors. The show gives audiences an opportunity to revisit historical Macau\, and cherish the memory of a bygone era by indulging in imagery that has disappeared forever. \n \nWatercolor only began as a popular art form in the 18th century in Europe. Due to its plasticity and convenience of use\, it was still the most preferred painting medium in the 19th and 20th centuries. With growing international trade and individual travel\, watercolor became a wonderful tool for artists to sketch local sceneries and customs. In the 19th century\, artists like George Chinnery and Auguste Borget traveled to various countries along with merchants. Those who set foot in Macau loved to depict its scenery using watercolor sketches or panoramic composition. \nSailboats anchored in the Inner Harbour depicted by George Chinnery in The Praia Grande from the South\, and exotic fluttering flags in The Forte of St. Tiago da Barra painted by Marciano António Baptista\, or the impressive Guia Lighthouse and Chapel of Our Lady of Guia seen from afar at Praia Grande – as depicted by E. Hildebrandt in Macau\, 1862\, were views that invariably caught the artists’ eye. \nWhen: September 28\, 2018—February 10\, 2019 \nWhere: Exhibitions Gallery 2/F\, Macao Museum of Art\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: Free entry
