SUMMARY:Urban Hikes at Ox Warehouse
DESCRIPTION:Urban Hikes – An Exchange Exhibition by Taiwan\, Hong Kong & Macao Artists was conceived during a sharing and exchange activity among artists from the three regions. \nIn a discussion about the links between artistic creation and social reality of growing up\, participants found that despite the cultural nuances\, they shared quite many common things. After discussing\, in depth\, topics like politics\, economy\, culture\, and identity\, we felt it was not enough and could be continued. \nChinese are the ethnic majority in Taiwan\, Hong Kong and Macau\, three regions with similar physical environments\, as they all face the sea and have low elevations\, and are small areas with high population density\, leading to a proximity of their urban areas and surrounding satellite towns. Furthermore\, at the regions’ urban edges\, rolling hills and hiking trails – though some of them man-made – fulfills urbanites’ eagerness for natural settings\, providing relaxation and leisure spaces after a daily busy urban life. \nIn this Urban Hike\, Taiwanese artist Li-Chen Loh\, Hong Kong artist Lee Chun Fung and Macau artist Gigi Lee walk through hiking trails\, observing cultural phenomena on city edges of their own regions. The hikes have enabled a deeper discussion and exchange of concepts\, which were aesthetically transformed into these final pieces on show in this exhibition at the Ox Warehouse. \nWhen: October 29 – December 4 (closed on Tuesdays) \nOpening ceremony: 4pm\, Saturday\, October 29 \nWhere: 2nd Floor of Ox Warehouse\, 87-97 Av. do Cel. Mesquita\, Santo Antonio\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission

SUMMARY:AD LIB - Recent Works by Konstantin Bessmertny
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition presents 34 of Konstantin Bessmertny’s recent paintings\, sculptures\, installations and mixed media\, with the artist choosing not to theme this bustling\, humorous visual feast in which he shares his personal musings and wittily responds to different phenomena occurring in society. A resident of Macau since 1993\, the Russian artist once said: “I like a critical\, sarcastic point of view on a subject. I prefer to take on a serious subject as a comedian rather than as a politician… Our duty as artists is to do as much as possible to influence bureaucrats and rich people.” \nWhen: November 11 – May 28 \nWhere: 2nd Floor\, Gallery of Special Exhibitions\, Macao Museum of Art \nMore information at www.mam.gov.mo

SUMMARY:Picnic in the Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:A picnic in a cemetery? \nPerhaps not the most obvious choice. But why not? We are all heading there eventually anyway. Though by then\, whether we can actually enjoy a picnic remains the greatest mystery\, so why not enjoy it now? \nAt once romantic\, filmic\, visceral\, and nostalgic\, this first-ever Macau original concert-theatre received a five stars review from British Theatre Guide during its run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, citing it as a “must experience” show. Rated no. 84 among almost 4\,000 productions of the festival\, this instrumental cabaret featuring piano\, violin and cello has met with critical and popular acclaims wherever it plays – from its first incarnation at the LMA during the 2013 Macau Arts Festival\, through Edinburgh Fringe and onto its tours in Mainland China\, Taiwan and Portugal. This new 2016 version at the Macau Cultural Centre with new staging and additional music promises to offer to the audience another “euphoric assault on the senses”. \nWhen: December 2-3 \nWhere: Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium \nHow much: MOP $180 \nBook your tickets at www.macauticket.com
