SUMMARY:AD LIB - Recent Works by Konstantin Bessmertny
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition presents 34 of Konstantin Bessmertny’s recent paintings\, sculptures\, installations and mixed media\, with the artist choosing not to theme this bustling\, humorous visual feast in which he shares his personal musings and wittily responds to different phenomena occurring in society. A resident of Macau since 1993\, the Russian artist once said: “I like a critical\, sarcastic point of view on a subject. I prefer to take on a serious subject as a comedian rather than as a politician… Our duty as artists is to do as much as possible to influence bureaucrats and rich people.” \nWhen: November 11 – May 28 \nWhere: 2nd Floor\, Gallery of Special Exhibitions\, Macao Museum of Art \nMore information at www.mam.gov.mo

SUMMARY:Hugo Teixeira: Transience: Daredevils and Towering Webs
DESCRIPTION:Taipa Village Art Space is hosting a new exhibition\, Transience: Daredevils and Towering Webs presented by Luso-American photographic artist Hugo Teixeira.  Hugo showcases his unique collection of documentary photography featuring an iconographic Macau fixture – bamboo scaffolding on construction sites\, which is ubiquitous in the city as it undergoes rapid development. The construction workers (bamboo masters) are acting like spiders\, taking a risky job with courage to wrap the vertiginous towers with bamboo scaffoldings which look like spider webs. \n \nHugo introduces demanding photographic techniques of yesteryear\, exhibiting two types of images: ambrotypes – positive photographs on glass created using a wet-plate process – and cyanotypes – produced using a process that creates a cyan-blue print. To create these stunning images\, Hugo uses heavy view cameras and very carefully applied coatings of paper\, metal and glass\, offering viewers an awe-inspiring journey of discovery back to a 19th-century fascination that long predates the digital era. \nWhen: January 13 – March 31 \nWhere: Taipa Village Art Space\, 10 Rua dos Clerigos\, Taipa\, Macau \n+853 2857 6118\, www.taipavillagemacau.com \nOpening hours: 12:00pm – 8:00pm

SUMMARY:Abstract Paintings from the MAM Collection
DESCRIPTION:The Macao Museum of Art is temporarily closed until further notice due to having been affected by Typhoon Hato. \nIn the 1980s\, abstract paintings entered Macao\, playing a prominent role in Macao modern art. Abstract painting has transcended the limitations of painting\, whose initial themes stressed realistic representation. Basic elements of painting were combined partially or entirely in an abstract manner\, creating an abstract form\, influencing the mindset of painting development in Macao. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis exhibition showcases nearly 30 works representative of the abstract collection including installations with rich painting qualities. The painting media and techniques used include ink wash\, mixed techniques\, mixed media\, ready-mades\, oil paints\, acrylic paints\, etc. The artists have conducted outstanding experimentation and exploration on the integrated techniques of abstract paintings and mixed materials with successful achievements. The works display strong personal styles through the subjective abstract composition of shapes and colors or independent thinking with symbolic meaning regarding ready-mades. The variety of art forms has fully resembled the laborious navigation of abstract art languages explored by Macao artists since the 1980s\, whose works feature immense open-minded artistic characteristics of the Sino-Western cultural integration in Macao.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: March 12 – September 17\, 2017 \nWhere: Macao Museum of Art \n\n How much: Free Admissions\n\nMore information at www.mam.gov.mo

SUMMARY:Art Basel ‘Twenty-Five Minutes Older’ by Hong Kong artist Kingsley Ng
DESCRIPTION:Kingsley Ng’s ‘Twenty-Five Minutes Older’ will turn two of Hong Kong’s iconic public trams into moving camera obscuras\, creating an altered reality and allowing passengers to experience Hong Kong in a new way – in reverse. Moving images of Hong Kong’s city life will be accompanied by spoken extracts from Liu Yichang’s popular novella ‘Tête-bêche’. \nThe project is free to the public and will be presented during the show. Art Basel’s Hong Kong show\, whose Lead Partner is UBS\, takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 23 to March 25\, 2017. \nCapturing images of Hong Kong’s passing street life\, the scenes displayed inside the tram will flow alongside texts from Liu Yichang’s famous stream-of-consciousness story. The poetic incantations will blend with street signs and scenery familiar to Hong Kong residents\, inviting the audience to re-experience the city in a completely new way. \nA popular mode of transport since their inauguration in 1904\, trams hold a special place in the heart of Hong Kong citizens and are affectionately known as the city’s ‘ding dings’. They are considered a ubiquitous landmark\, classified as one of the legendary tramways by National Geographic. More than a century after their maiden voyage\, the tram remains a pivotal part of the city’s infrastructure\, continually transporting visitors and residents alike through the heart of the city. \n‘Twenty-Five Minutes Older’ is commissioned by Art Basel and supported by MGM Resorts Art & Culture. Art Basel is grateful for the support of Osage Art Foundation and Hong Kong Tramways. \nWhen: March 20 – March 28\, 2017 \nWhere: Trams will run daily between Causeway Bay and Western Market\, Sheung Wan. \nHow much: Free admission \nMore information will be available soon at www.artbasel.com
