SUMMARY:Abstract Paintings from the MAM Collection
DESCRIPTION:The Macao Museum of Art is temporarily closed until further notice due to having been affected by Typhoon Hato. \nIn the 1980s\, abstract paintings entered Macao\, playing a prominent role in Macao modern art. Abstract painting has transcended the limitations of painting\, whose initial themes stressed realistic representation. Basic elements of painting were combined partially or entirely in an abstract manner\, creating an abstract form\, influencing the mindset of painting development in Macao. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis exhibition showcases nearly 30 works representative of the abstract collection including installations with rich painting qualities. The painting media and techniques used include ink wash\, mixed techniques\, mixed media\, ready-mades\, oil paints\, acrylic paints\, etc. The artists have conducted outstanding experimentation and exploration on the integrated techniques of abstract paintings and mixed materials with successful achievements. The works display strong personal styles through the subjective abstract composition of shapes and colors or independent thinking with symbolic meaning regarding ready-mades. The variety of art forms has fully resembled the laborious navigation of abstract art languages explored by Macao artists since the 1980s\, whose works feature immense open-minded artistic characteristics of the Sino-Western cultural integration in Macao.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: March 12 – September 17\, 2017 \nWhere: Macao Museum of Art \n\n How much: Free Admissions\n\nMore information at www.mam.gov.mo

SUMMARY:Ceramics and Seals of 108 Heroes of Shui Hu Legend
DESCRIPTION:***The Macao Museum of Art is temporarily closed until further notice due to having been affected by Typhoon Hato.** \nThe Macao Museum of Art is making the debut of its own collection of 108 ceramic figurines and 194 seals from the great Chinese classical novel Shui Hu Legend. \nThe collection was donated by Lei Loi Tak\, General Director of the Soka Gakkai International of Macao in the name of the association in 2000. The ceramic figurines were created by the Guangdong art and craft master Liu Ousheng\, who is acclaimed for applying the great freehand style of traditional Chinese painting to his ceramic works. Jointly created by the late respected local calligrapher and seal carver Lin Jin and his three protégés José Pedro Morais\, Cho Sai Keung and Ho Pan\, the seals constitute an important part in the development of seal carving art in Macao\, as they reflect not only the individual characteristics of the four but also the master-apprentice relationship between them. \nWhen: May 13- November 19\, 2017 \nWhere: Macao Museum of Art\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, Nape\, Macau \nHow much: Free admissions \nMore information at www.mam.gov.mo

SUMMARY:A Retrospective Exhibition of the Ferry Transport between Macao and the Islands
DESCRIPTION:In the mid-twentieth century\, the ferry vessel was an important transportation tool for passengers between the Macao peninsula and the two islands\, Taipa and Coloane. It is an integral part of Macao’s history and memories. \nThis exhibition unveils a number of collections for the first time\, such as the original documents “Stock Booklet of Un Fat Ferry between Macao and Coloane” and “Lease Contract of Motorboat” of the ferry operation company\, as well as other items related to the ferry vessels\, including photographs\, ferry tickets\, newspapers and commemorative publications\, among others. \nIn the exhibition\, interactive electronic screens are also available to introduce “The Evolution of Macao’s Topography”\, which covers the territory’s coastlines and vessel routes from different eras. Meanwhile\, video excerpts of interviews with several old residents are screened to share their stories in taking ferry vessels\, revealing the unique rustic simplicity of this small city. In addition\, visitors can enjoy a 3D virtual ferry ride based on the ferry model “Kuong Kong”. \n \nThrough various forms of exhibits such as precious documents\, images\, and interview videos\, the exhibition shows social changes that occurred in Macao\, making available a replenishment for future studies on maritime traffic. Allow visitors to experience Macao’s life in the old days\, the exhibition also intends to educate the public on good family and neighbourhood relations. \nThe exhibition “In Search of those Journeys – A Retrospective Exhibition of the Ferry Transport between Macao and the Islands” is open daily except for Mondays from 10am to 7pm. Guided tours in Cantonese will be available from 3pm to 4pm every Saturday. \nWhen: June 3 – October 5\, 2017 \nWhere: Taipa-Houses  \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, contact +853 8988 4000 or visit www.icm.gov.mo

SUMMARY:Omar Saadoune Solo Exhibition - Monologue
DESCRIPTION:As Omar Saadoune’s first solo exhibition in Macau\, Monologue will showcase a selection of Saadoune’s finest work held in the Blanc Art exhibition room. \nBorn in Morocco and graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan\, Omar Saadoune has always been passionate about art\, and especially interested in the physical form of arts. His paintings are bold and appealing; the combination of arcs and lines form the basic structure of most of his work\, colors are then dripped painted onto the canvas\, creating an unspeakable tension.\nThe artist challenges the boundary of the traditional visual art\, through painting\, multimedia work\, film and live performance\, Saadoune is constantly touching on the pressing matter in the society – the oppressed humanity\, the conflicts and the future direction of humanity. \nWhen: June 23-August 26\, 2017 \nWhere: Blanc Art\, Flat M\, 258 Kin Heng Long Plaza\, Alameda\, Dr. Carlos D’Assumpcao \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, visit www.blancart.co

SUMMARY:Representing Women through MAM Collection – 19th and 20th Century
DESCRIPTION:*The Macao Museum of Art is temporarily closed until further notice due to having been affected by Typhoon Hato.* \nDuring the 19th century and 20th century\, if a woman wanted to succeed as a professional artist anywhere in the world\, she would have to circumvent gender-specific artistic and social hierarchies. While the access to the profession was limited\, women had always been an incredible source of inspiration for male artists who usually portrayed them within the exact roles they were supposed to play: goddess\, mothers\, servants or concubines. \nThe exhibition is organized in four sections: ‘A Western Tradition in Macao – 19th Century’\, ‘Views of Europeans on China – Late 19th Century’\, ‘Calendars and Posters – Early 20th Century’ and ‘Propaganda – Mid 20th Century’. The works presented use different media such as oil paintings\, drawings\, watercolors\, gouache\, posters\, and sculptures. Art served as a way to reinforce the values about the role of women\, but it also served to express alternative views. \nWhen: June 30-December 10\, 2017 \nWhere: 3rd floor\, Macao Museum of Art\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, visit www.mam.gov.mo

SUMMARY:Restless Nature - Wooden Sculpture Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, Taipa Village Cultural Association proudly presents local accomplished artist Tong Chong’s wooden sculpture exhibition “Restless Nature”. \nHe unveils his masterpiece artworks to the public\, showcasing Tong Chong’s new collection with plywood technique and reflects the outcome of his three years of meticulous research on this subject of sculpting with plywood. In this new series of sculptures\, each piece took at least four to six months to finish due to gluing procedures\, whilst the sculpting itself is a process which requires physical and psychological stamina that cannot be taken lightly. \nThis tells us about Chong’s character\, as it is embodied in each piece: the perseverance to achieve his goals and a restless soul eager to evolve and perfect his technical skills. \nWhen: July 5 – September 6\, 2017 \nWhere: Taipa Village Art Space\, 10 Rua dos Clerigos\, Taipa\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, contact +853 2857 6118 or visit www.taipavillagemacau.com

SUMMARY:Ballade—Animamix Contemporary Art
DESCRIPTION:**The Macao Museum of Art is temporarily closed until further notice due to having been affected by Typhoon Hato.* \nThe Macao Museum of Art under the Cultural Affairs Bureau once used ‘Macao Scenario’ as the theme to take part in Animamix Biennale 2013-2014\, an Asian collaboration and exchange project\, while Ballade—Animamix Contemporary Art is an exchange project of Animamix Biennale 2017-2018\, with participating institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai\, the Seoul National University Museum of Art (MoA)\, Korea\, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre\, China\, and the A4 Art Museum of the Chengdu Luxelakes\, etc. The Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai is the organizer of the Biennale as well as the co-organiser of this Macau exhibition. \n \nEntering a new era\, the aesthetic aspect of contemporary art is undergoing various changes. It is not difficult to realize that artists of different fields have shifted their focus to emerging fashionable and trendy comics\, animation or similar types of works. As a result\, a new aesthetic trend—‘animamix’\, has been formed coincidentally. \nWhen: July 14–October 15\, 2017 \nWhere: Macao Museum of Art Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, visit www.mam.gov.mo\, +853 8791 9814
