SUMMARY:After Hours - Late Night Fantastic Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:This unique festival will bring eight special films to Macau which have probably never been seen on the big screen in the city. To make things more interesting\, they will be screened at midnight every Friday and Saturday between August 31 and September 22. Each of the eight films is from a different part of the world and each is a cult success in its own right\, with some being successful\, some being comedic and some being thoughtful. \nThe opening movie is one of most talked about the horror films of the year\, Hereditary. For those who like a bit of blood and gore\, they should check out French director Julia Ducournau’s\, Raw. The Wild Boys\, meanwhile\, is a stylish\, unusual take on cross-dressing\, being a survival story as well. There is also a shock comedy\, Female Trouble\, from John Waters. Miami Connection is an action-cult film directed by taekwondo master Y. K. Kim. Another cult piece not to be missed is A Tale of Sorrow and Sadness – an erotic film about a female golfer directed by Seijun Suzuki. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Coen brothers’ comedy The Big Lebowski\, and this is also one of the festival’s highlights. DESCRIPTION:The 3rd Macau International Lantern Festival is back to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival! Extending along the Waterfront Promenade of Wynn Macau to One Central Macau\, the area will be colorfully illuminated from now until October 15. There will be impressive interactive art and light installations featuring fluttering butterflies and beautiful flowers designed by renowned architects and artists. The theme this year is “Wynn Butterfly Story”\, and visitors will have the opportunity to engage with the LED animations and admire the many vibrant lanterns. \nCelebrating the concept of “art without borders”\, Wynn Macau is pleased to be have partnered with the Fuhong Society of Macau to organize the festival. An autistic artist\, Mr. Leong Ieng Wai\, or better known as “0.38”\, from the Fuhong Society of Macau has created a very special piece entitled “Landing on 0.38 Kingdom of Happiness”. His piece\, featuring the Mid-Autumn moon\, adds a romantic flair to this year’s Lantern Festival. \nThere will also be ten colorful lantern art installations in total\, with five created in collaboration with prominent and promising artists. They include “Joy of Love” by esteemed Macau painter Mr. Lio Man Cheong; “Emergency Love” by Beijing artist Mr. Mei Le; “Queen of Hearts” by Portuguese artist Ms. Ana Jacinto Nunes; “Eden’s Fruit of Love” by British architect and artist\, Ms. Farah Carolina; and “Love Rabbit for All” by Italian artist Mr. Ugo Re\, gracing the peaceful and joyful festive season with bright colors and delicate contour. SUMMARY:Beyond the Scenery Exhibition: MAM Displays Wu Li's Art
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Scenery: Exhibition Commemorating the 300th Anniversary of the Passing of Wu Li\, is this artist’s first large-scale solo exhibition. It will be opened to the public until November 11. Jointly organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM)\, the Palace Museum\, the Shanghai Museum\, the Macao Foundation\, the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Daily News\, with the support of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and Residência da Companhia de Jesus\, the exhibition can be visited on the 4th floor of the Macao Museum of Art. \nIt features a total of 84 pieces (sets) of calligraphy and paintings by the renowned painter of Qing Dynasty\, Wu Li. This is the first large-sale solo exhibition of Wu Li. Nearly half of the exhibits are presented to the public for the first time\, showcasing Wu’s art and his brush and ink in a more comprehensive way. On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the death of Wu Li this year\, the exhibition offers the public and visitors the highest level of paintings of the Qing Dynasty to experience the splendor and charm of Chinese culture. \nWu Li (1632-1718)\,  was born in Changshu\, Jiangshu province. During the Kangxi period\, Wu Li came to Macao with Philippus Couplet\, a Belgian Jesuit\, and resided at St. Paul’s College where he studied Latin and Christian theology before returning to Jiangsu. In 1682\, he joined the Society of Jesus and became a Jesuits friar in Hangzhou. Wu Li was highly literate\, capable of poetry and prose as well as good at musical instruments and arts. His works collected all the good qualities of different masters and were based on the theme of nature\, especially famous for his landscape paintings. SUMMARY:Japanese Culture and Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Japanese Culture and Music festival is back! The music festival debuted in Macau in 2005\, with the last show held in 2009. Many emerging Japanese musicians and band members visited Macau for the music and cultural exchange during the consecutive five year period. Now it’s back and bigger than ever. As well as music this year there will be a Gourmet Showcase\, featuring eight booths to promote Japanese food\, with Japanese desserts\, packaged products\, coffee\, tea and other beverages on show. Aside from this\, special offers and coupons will be provided by the merchants to encourage the general public to visit their shops. \nThe main highlight of the festival though is\, of course\, the band shows and cultural performances.
