SUMMARY:Landscape of Change – Macao Watercolor Paintings from the MAM Collection
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition with works from the Macao Art Museum (MAM) collection will feature watercolor paintings of old Macau. The pieces are from the mid-19th century to the 20th century and present a landscape of Macau you have never seen. It is arranged in four sections\, namely\, The Coastline\, Peaceful Time\, Fishing Sceneries and Modern Glitz. Through the perspective and works of more than 20 Chinese and Western artists\, the exhibition showcases Macau’s topographical\, landscape and social transformations over the last century or so\, while at the same time allowing visitors to appreciate the rich and diverse styles presented by different artists in their watercolors. The show gives audiences an opportunity to revisit historical Macau\, and cherish the memory of a bygone era by indulging in imagery that has disappeared forever. \n \nWatercolor only began as a popular art form in the 18th century in Europe. Due to its plasticity and convenience of use\, it was still the most preferred painting medium in the 19th and 20th centuries. With growing international trade and individual travel\, watercolor became a wonderful tool for artists to sketch local sceneries and customs. In the 19th century\, artists like George Chinnery and Auguste Borget traveled to various countries along with merchants. Those who set foot in Macau loved to depict its scenery using watercolor sketches or panoramic composition. \nSailboats anchored in the Inner Harbour depicted by George Chinnery in The Praia Grande from the South\, and exotic fluttering flags in The Forte of St. Tiago da Barra painted by Marciano António Baptista\, or the impressive Guia Lighthouse and Chapel of Our Lady of Guia seen from afar at Praia Grande – as depicted by E. Hildebrandt in Macau\, 1862\, were views that invariably caught the artists’ eye. \nWhen: September 28\, 2018—February 10\, 2019 \nWhere: Exhibitions Gallery 2/F\, Macao Museum of Art\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: Free entry

SUMMARY:Gudetama in Macau
DESCRIPTION:Kawaii alert: Sanrio’s Gudetama\, the famous Japanese cartoon character based on an egg yolk\, is hitting Macau! For an overdose of cuteness\, head to the Nam Van Lake area this month where there is a 10-meter high inflatable version of the character. It is the lovely egg yolk’s fifth anniversary and this month it can be found floating on the water next to the Anim’Arte Nam Van zone. It’s a cute photo opportunity for all. Other 3D versions of the animated egg yolk – a character famous for being portrayed as one of life’s slackers – are also on display near the Ruins of St. Paul’s\, with models of the egg yolk as a chef and as a punter. Visitors can take photos with them\, with the character also represented via delicacies provided by Gusteau’s Hong Kong\, and via souvenirs distributed at the Ruins of St Paul’s. SUMMARY:St. Lazarus Brides Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:St. Lazarus Brides is a photographic installation by Vera Paz\, which features 30 portraits taken with an iPhone 4 between 2015 and 2018 in the historical streets of St. Lazarus neighborhood. The exhibition\, which is hosted by Albergue SCM until October 24\, features brides and grooms as “real characters” in awkward and unexpected moments. The final emblematic pieces have film grain\, blurriness\, and low resolution – there is a lo-fi aesthetic sense to them. \nThese are couples’ stories – sometimes lonely ones – captured in public\, failed poses and portrait staging intervals. The showcase is supported by a soundtrack of romantic classic and contemporary songs from the 40s to excerpts of old Hollywood movies. The artist behind St. Lazarus Brides is Portuguese\, but photography and music are universal\, so everyone is welcome. The event is organized by d’As Entranhas Macau Cultural Association\, co-organized by Albergue SCM and sponsored by The Cultural Affairs Bureau. \nWhen: October 10–October 24\, 2018 \nMonday: 3:00pm–8:00pm; Tuesday–Sunday: 12:00pm–08:00pm \nWhere: D1 Gallery Albergue SCM\, 8\, Calcada da Igreja de S. Lazaro\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, either check Albergue SCM’s Facebook page or the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:The City in My Heart — Creative Artwork Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Ox Warehouse Art Group continues to function as a platform for young artists\, supporting and encouraging new talents to showcase their creative endeavors in Macau. On October 13\, 2018\, at the new “Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Field”\, the association will usher in an art exhibition with a new generation of artists\, entitled The City in My Heart — Creative Artwork Exhibition. \nA total of 17 young creatives\, including eight artists and nine university students\, have been invited to participate in the exhibition. It is indeed commendable that amid busy daily routines earning their dough the eight artists are still able to maintain a passion for artistic creation and engage with the other nine participating university students who are still inexperienced\, but with undeniable potential. \nTaking to the theme of the exhibition\, “The City in My Heart”\, these young creators will present the Macau that their eyes and hearts see\, reflecting on issues resulting from the enclave’s rapid transformation in recent years. Are they fascinated by the buzzing and glamorous Cotai Strip or those gambling games dubbed as wonderful entertainment? Or are they stuck in endless excavation works\, congested traffic\, and the ever-rising commodity and house prices of Macau? Do they indulge in nostalgia for the bygone era and world? Are they discontent? Do they feel helpless? Or just numb? Through this exhibition\, visitors can take a glimpse at the new generation’s unique vision of their city\, a place where they live\, work\, or study. \nParticipating artists are 2 UP Studio\, Kinson Lam\, Ella Lei\, Natalie Pun\, Ai Sio Pui Ian\, Sour Graphik and Yang Illustration. Participating students are Kay Cheong\, Benny Tang\, Tonny Deng\, Esther He\, Cherry Huang\, Doria Lin\, Tina Loi\, Shirley Sou and Mori Xu. \nWhen: 4:30pm–7:00pm\, October 13 (opening); 12:00pm–7:00pm\, October 14–November 18\, 2018 (closed on Mondays) \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, 15 Rua do Volong\, Macau \nHow much: Free \nFor more information\, email them or go to their website
