SUMMARY:Art Macao: Grace Kelly: From Hollywood to Monaco – Artists’ Tributes
DESCRIPTION:(Featured image: Photograph of Grace Kelly at the Oscar Ceremony receiving her Best Actress Award for the film Country Girl in 1955\, by Bettmann / Photo credit: Getty Images) \n“Grace Kelly: From Hollywood to Monaco – Artists’ Tributes” is co-organized by the Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation and Grimaldi Forum of Monaco\, one of a series of activities of “Art Macao”\, a five-month mega international art cultural event. The highlight of the exhibition is an original Andy Warhol painting of Grace Kelly\, displayed in a specially constructed venue at Galaxy Macau’s Crystal Lobby. \nThe exhibition traces the story of Oscar-winning actress Grace Kelly (1929–1982)\, from her Hollywood days to becoming Princess of Monaco. An important style icon of the 20th century\, Grace Kelly embodied the myths of power and timelessness which explains the continuing interest and fascination people have of her. A star of Hollywood films in the 1950s\, Grace Kelly became a princess in “old Europe”\, joining a royal family with a history which dates back almost one thousand years. \nGrace Kelly has continued to inspire artists throughout her life\, from famous photographers to visual artists such as Andy Warhol\, who portrayed her through his Pop Art prints. As an artists’ tributes exhibition\, this show highlights her role as a muse\, as well as her personal enthusiasm for artistic creation. The exhibition is exceptional in many ways; a temporary gallery was specially created for this exhibition to display collections from the Prince’s Palace of Monaco. The scenography was designed under the supervision of Dr Thomas Fouilleron\, curator of the exhibition and Director of Archives and Library of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco\, allowing visitors to go through a journey which integrates history\, heritage\, fashion\, and arts. \nWhen: May 16–August 28\, 2019 \nSundays–Thursdays: 10:00am–10:00pm \nFridays–Saturdays: 10:00am–00:00am \nWhere: Crystal Lobby\, Galaxy Macau\, Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança\, Galaxy Macau\, Cotai \nYou can also join an exhibition tour\, check the exhibition’s Facebook page for dates and time \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s official page \n\n“Grace Kelly: From Hollywood to Monaco – Artists’ Tributes” is part of the mega international art and cultural event Art Macao. \nHappening from May to October this year\, Art Macao brings together cultural institutions\, hotel and resort operators\, consular missions in Hong Kong and Macau to create an unforgettable atmosphere and cultural vitality to thrill residents and tourists alike.

SUMMARY:Art Macao: Outdoor Art Installations
DESCRIPTION:Featured image: The Wanderer\, by Wong Ka Long \nArt Macao is spreading art all over the city and it’s no different outdoors. There is an array of art pieces spread around in parks and garden across Macau\, including Cotai and Taipa. “Happy Heads” is at Jorge Álvares Square until August 15\, 2019. Created by Benoit+Bo–a duo of Franco-Chinese visual artists–it’s a sight to see in the middle of the grass. Their artistic practice is above all an invitation to travel. They work on territories and landscapes from their own memories and places they have visited. Through photography\, sculpture or video\, these artists can evoke the various issues of today’s world. “Happy Heads”\, which they call “smiling heads”\, are colorful masks inspired by popular Chinese festivals. The mask is their emblem but also the link between all their works made since the creation of their duet in 2003. \nHappy Heads by Benoit+Bo (Belgium) \n“The Wanderer” (see featured image on top) is artwork created by Wong Ka Long\, featuring multiple sculptures of Fernando Pessoa. Fernando Pessoa is a famous Portuguese poet and author\, whose work was acclaimed with its unique poetic quality and philosophy. He was also famed for “inventing” personalities\, fabricating 75 heteronyms to replace himself. In this international exhibition\, local artist Wong Ka Long is presenting sculptures of Pessoa\, representing the world through the perspective of Pessoa\, to make him more known to the audience. Sculptures wandering in the same place are and aren’t Pessoa at the same time\, resonating with the heteronyms he invented. \nSanctuary\, by João Ó and Rita Machado \n“Sanctuary”\, designed by João Ó and Rita Machado is a site-specific outdoor intervention located at the top of the hill\, within the defence walls of Mount Fortress\, once a historical military center of Macau\, now transformed into a prime location for tourists to get a panoramic view of the city and the mainland areas. It is from the weight of the history embedded at this site that this temporary bamboo structure reveals its meaningful raison d’être\, a shaded canopy to protect the passersby from the elements and give peace of mind\, rest and contemplation before their departure to the next destination. \nContemplation of Lovingkindness\, by Mok Yat San \n“Contemplation of Lovingkindness” by Mok Yat-San\, is a set of stainless steel sculptures combining elements of Chinese ink art and the contemporary landscape. The sculptures create a surreal and dreamlike landscape scene\, yet items like banyan trees and hexagonal rock columns commonly seen in Hong Kong draw viewers back to reality\, signifying the inseparable relationship between the natural world and people in the urban environment. It also reminds people of the importance of treasuring and preserving nature. \nWhen: June–October\, 2019 \nWhere: Anim’Arte Nam Van\, Macao Cultural Centre\, Taipa Houses-Museum\, Praça Jorge Álvares\, Mount Fortress \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check here \n\nOutdoor Art Installations are part of the mega international art and cultural event Art Macao. \nHappening from May to October this year\, Art Macao brings together cultural institutions\, hotel and resort operators\, consular missions in Hong Kong and Macau to create an unforgettable atmosphere and cultural vitality to thrill residents and tourists alike.

The artist is one of the most important artists of Post impressionism. Coin du Jardin was made at a pivotal moment in Paul Gauguin’s art career. It marks the end of a long period of working towards becoming a professional artist rather than an amateur and a businessman\, and the beginning of a quest to explore new places and subjects. It features works by Wu Guanzhong in a free entrance exhibition in Grand Lisboa. Wu Guanzhong shocked the whole painting world with his concise remarks that pen and ink means nothing\, but the spiritual orientation of traditional literati is deeply reflected in his paintings. He compares his accomplishment in oil paintings and traditional Chinese paintings as “the amphibious hardships”\, and carries out an interactive art exploration on two aspects of “nationalization of oil painting” and “modernization of traditional Chinese painting”. \nThe same property also hosts Visions of Chinese Tradition\, an exhibition that\, as the name indicates\, is full of beautiful and exclusive art pieces from Chinese artists depicting China. Chinese lacquer painting is derived from the longstanding lacquer art\, which is an important art form in Chinese art history. Jiangxi has been a major lacquer art town in China since ancient times and a large number of exquisite lacquer wares were unearthed here. Its lacquer paintings are one of the representatives of modern lacquer art\, and are distinguished in employing traditional techniques to present innovative and expressive ideas\, winning acclaim for their varied styles and vivid colours. It’s with lacquer and a contemporary mind that these artists came up with amazing sceneries and horizons. Have a preview of the exhibition here. \nWarm sunlight\, by Xiong Jianxin \nVideo art from Portugal is also at SJM properties: three short movies are exhibited across Grand Lisboa Hotel\, Hotel Lisboa\, Sofitel Macau At Ponte 16 and Casino Oceanus at Jai Alai. Schizo is the work of João Pombeiro\, while Rodrigo Oliveira put together Rescaldo\, and Rui Calçada Bastos brings The Mirror Suitcase Man. \nThe Fourth “Y Show” features the works of local students. This exhibition is the result of a selection of 15 pieces from the PLMJ Foundation\, where some of the most relevant names of this artistic scene are represented. Find out more here\, and know that this is a great way to get to know more about the Lusophone community without leaving Macau. Let these art pieces take you higher! \nArtist Meng Shu is responsible for the works included in Celestial Sphere\, a contemporary glass art exhibition for all passionate about all things made of glass. SUMMARY:Hua Yuan at MGM
DESCRIPTION:(Featured image: Journey to the Dark II\, by Yang Yongliang) \nInk flows with the history and art of Chinese culture. MGM presents a modern artistic ink experience–Hua Yuan. This exhibition invites renowned multi-disciplinary contemporary artist Jennifer Wen Ma and international digital visual artist Yang Yongliang. Jennifer Ma uses the intrinsic connectivity and diversity of ink to present a large-scale multimedia and art installation of three gardens. “A Metamorphosis: No End to End” is a garden landscape bringing together natural\, sculptural and virtual textures and an installation opera in one act “Paradise Interrupted” which was praised globally as the opening event of the 2016 Lincoln Center Festival in New York. \n“Journey to the Dark II”\, by Yang Yongliang\, combines slow movement\, profound sound and darkness in a video installation that unfolds a side of Macau we’ve never seen: although it doesn’t exist\, it’s made of several portions of the city’s landscape. When looking carefully\, one can spot Grand Lisboa\, MGM Macau and so many other iconic structures that make Macau the city it is. This is a simple\, but intense experience to have\, especially in a place when horizons are rare and buildings are set side by side with some more. \nThe work presents a surrealistic urban nightscape merged with a boundless night sky; here the artificial world and the natural world coexist\, interwoven\, in a motley harmony. Through cutting edge digital imaging technologies\, this work is rendered at near-8K resolution. Incorporating a large amount of footage purposely shot in Macau and photographs of the signature architecture of the city\, the video has the distinct flavor of Macanese culture and topography\, raising provocative questions about the issue of regionality in the exhibition. Journey to the Dark II is a digital video that uses urban architecture as a brush and the layered mountains of Song-dynasty landscape painting as a compositional blueprint. It can thus be considered a contemporary extension of traditional Chinese painting. \nFrom afar\, the work appears tranquil and quiet\, with only a vague suggestion of movement. As the viewer approaches\, everything in the video reveals itself to be moving\, growing\, and transforming. Urban development not only nourishes a city but also raises some objective questions. Whereas the ancients expressed their appreciation for nature in landscape painting\, Yang Yongliang’s contemporary landscape provokes reflection on the state of contemporary society. The monumental high-\nresolution panoramic screen in the MGM Theater perfectly renders the near-infinite details in Journey to the Dark II\, enveloping the viewer like a dome and engendering an unprecedented immersive visual experience. \nThe darkness of MGM Theatre allows for an introspective moment in this exhibition lasting a few minutes: just the perfect amount of time for the audience to create their own stories in and about the city: one with no boundaries in this showcase. It harnesses technology and videography to showcase the transformation of Chinese ink via a digital landscape painting. Through Hua Yuan\, the essence of Chinese culture and art is preserved and progressed\, allowing the public to experience the beauty of ink and wonder at its possibilities. Born in 1980\, Shanghai (China)\, Yang graduated from the China Academy of Art in Shanghai in 2003\, and his works have been exhibited at museums and biennials all over the world. His is renowned for exploiting connections between traditional art and the contemporary\, implementing ancient oriental aesthetics and literati beliefs with modern language and digital techniques. \nInternationally renowned\, cross-disciplinary artist Jennifer Wen Ma employs an all-encompassing worldview to conceptualize a multimedia installation taking over MGM COTAI’s Spectacle. Springing forth from Ma’s mind and hands\, this garden landscape brings together natural\, sculptural\, and virtual textures\, synchronizing the entire Spectacle in one visionary stroke. \nThe artist’s signature honeycomb-construction paper-sculpture garden will be the physical artwork in the Spectacle. This stunning series of paper gardens combines state-of-the-art laser cutting technology with traditional Chinese art of accordion paper folding technique. Gardens spill down to the floor and occupy a pop-up exhibition space in the Spectacle. The installation is designed as a three-dimensional landscape painting. Viewers looking down from the first level will discover a world activated by visitors exploring the gardenscape on the ground floor\, and vice versa. The multiplicity of perspectives allow each visitor to have a unique\, immersive experience with the work. \nAn internationally renowned\, cross-disciplinary artist\, Ma bridges varied media such as installation\, drawing\, video\, public art\, design\, performance\, and theater; often bringing together unlikely elements in a single piece in order to create sensitive\, poetic and poignant works. \n\n“Paradise Interrupted An Installation Opera in One Act”\, by Jennifer Wen Ma \n\n\nFrom the same artist\, Paradise Interrupted: An Installation Opera in One Act\, tells the story of a woman searching for an unattainable ideal in a world that comes to life through her singing\, as she attempts to return to the Garden. Co-produced by Spoleto Festival USA\, Lincoln Center Festival\, Singapore International Festival of Arts and National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts\, it weaves the myths of the Garden of Eden and Peony Pavilion\, with a mesmerizing composition that merges a 600-year-old Kun opera with contemporary Western opera. The creative use of interactive technology enables a host of digital characters to interact with the heroine within a magical garden to create an enchanting story. \nThe director and designer of this exquisite opera is visual artist\, Jennifer Wen Ma. The composition\, which is both a celebration of tradition and an entirely new masterpiece\, is by Huang Ruo. The quest-seeking heroine is Qian Yi\, who has been lauded by The New York Times as “China’s reigning opera princess.” \n\nWhen: “Journey to the Dark II” – June 7–August 3\, 2019 (Closed every Tuesday and from June 12 to 14) \n“A Metamorphosis: No End to End” – June 7–October 20\, 2019 \n“Paradise Interrupted: An Installation Opera in One Act” – 7:00pm\, August 29 and 8:00pm\, August 31\, 2019 \nWhere: MGM Cotai\, Avenida da Nave Desportiva\, Cotai \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s website \n\n“Hua Yuan” at MGM is part of the mega international art and cultural event Art Macao. \nHappening from May to October this year\, Art Macao brings together cultural institutions\, hotel and resort operators\, consular missions in Hong Kong and Macau to create an unforgettable atmosphere and cultural vitality to thrill residents and tourists alike. \n\nA Metamorphosis: No End to End\, by Jennifer Wen Ma

SUMMARY:Art Macao: Interspace
DESCRIPTION:Featured image: Parachute (2015)\, by Gabrielle Wambaugh \nThis exhibition of works by famous French sculptor Gabrielle Wambaugh reflects the integration of space and art. The essence and introspection of contemporary western art in the works can be combined with eastern traditional art. With the hidden truth instantly revealed through space\, the exhibition showcases the daring tendencies of exploration in the new era. \n\n\nGabrielle Wambaugh is a French sculptor whose works are mostly ceramic and sculpture. Rubber\, chalk\, plastic\, fabric and other materials are used to convey the relaxation\, weakness\, and fatigue of her works through the density\, limit\, edge and state of these materials. SUMMARY:Art Macao: Exhibitions Organized by Foreign Consulates
DESCRIPTION:(Featured image: Menshen: Everyday a kilo of gold\, by Benoit+Bo\, 2019) \nThe Consulates of Italy\, Belgium\, Japan\, Hungary and Portugal in Hong Kong (and Macau) joins forces to present a set of amazing\, new\, contemporary art pieces for all to enjoy for free. Exhibited around the city\, some in Taipa and others\, in the Macau peninsula. This collection includes works by Benoit+Bo\, Hungarian Zsuzsa Péreli\, Japanese Taniguchi Hiroki\, Shinmura Norito and Ren Takaya\, among others. \n“Prosperous Years”\, from the Brussels-based artist duo Benoit+Bo (東波西波 in Chinese) begins with a visual and sound installation of a giant lantern. The lantern is in the shape of heads\, named “Happy Heads” by the two artists. The enlightened head tells a poetic and sentimental text in several languages (English\, Chinese\, French\, Spanish\, Portuguese and more). This installation symbolizes the universality of art and human feelings in a globalized world. Near the lantern\, there is a neon sculpture represents universal symbols of love. In the other room\, there are a series of printed digital works which is called “Menshen” in reference to the images of “gatekeepers” from the Chinese culture. The two artists reinterpret the old idea of protective images with new technologies. The recombination of style in photography\, the narration of unlike language in audio and mixed application of various cultural factors in digital precisely reflect the borderless vision of the two artists. For more details on this showcase\, check here. \nBo\, from China and Benoit\, from France\, hope to create a contemporary art landscape that integrates the cultures of the east and the west by their different cultural world views and artistic languages. They boldly use different elements of folk art and pop culture to link it with inspirations from life\, and express a contemporary vision without boundaries through distinctive colours and different materials. The two artists met in Tianjin in 2002 and used to work in Paris in Shanghai. They have been living and doing art creations in Brussels\, Belgium since 2015. Their work has been exhibited in galleries and art museum in China\, France\, Belgium\, Italy\, Spain\, Australia and South Korea. \nGRAPHIC TRIAL 2010 uroko no utsukushisa ni chousensuru\, by Shinmura Norito\, 2010 \nThe Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong brings\, in collaboration with Toppan Printing\, a poster exhibition featuring posters of Japanese culture and performing arts. Toppan Printing has produced posters portraying expressions of graphic design and print expressions designed by prominent Japanese contemporary artists. In addition\, some specially curated posters from the “Graphic Trial” and the “Traditional Performing Arts of Japan” series (※)\, as well as a couple of selected arts and crafts items by Japanese modern and contemporary artists will be displayed at the same time. The exhibition will also feature digital works by the media artist Naoko Tosa as well as various art activities such as lectures and demonstrations on craft arts\, flower arrangements\, tea ceremony\, music performances and so on to be held at designated times. \n(※) “Graphic Trial” is an experimental attempt that deeply examines the relationship between graphic design and printed expression\, seeking out new expressions through experiments in which creators actively challenge printing expressions. “Traditional Performing Arts of Japan” is a series of posters designed in 1981 and 2017 to commemorate the launch of performing arts collaboration between UCLA and Waseda Universities. It’s displayed at Tap Seac Gallery until September 22\, 2019. \nA New Wave of Passion\, by Francesco Lietti\, 2018 \nColours of Asia compiles works by the Italian artist\, Francesco Lietti. He has been living in Hong Kong since early 2006 and his love of this vibrant\, eclectic city is immediately apparent in his works\, which derives from the mnemonic imagery of the artist\, who lives in symbiosis with the themes of travel and discovery. \nWhen first visiting Hong Kong in the summer of 2005\, the painter experienced an overwhelming sensation: fascinated by the variety of colours\, the rich smells\, and the plethora of images he was drawn to return and stay. This exciting metropolis is something you cannot just put into a frame: something would spill out; something would be missing; one can catch the details\, but he or she would never be able to capture the entire picture. The artist portrays this through simple and direct forms. He paints naive visions that often have a humorous quality\, describing the city in an almost caricatured magnificence. Through the use of striking colors the painter captures the essence of Hong Kong’s famous harbour skyline and makes it his own. His paintings hover between reality and fantasy. Using strong blocks of paint to represent the buildings\, Lietti also includes smaller patches of textured colour\, which dance across the cityscape\, giving it that dream-like\, ephemeral quality. The artist works in acrylic and oils on canvas and also adds collage to give his paintings texture and depth. He then finishes his pieces with a thick\, glossy resin\, further enhancing the brightness of the colours. \nLietti also captures the colors and delights of other Asian destinations. The lush greens of Vietnam and Bali\, the golden sunsets of Rajasthan\, the deep blue seascapes of the Philippines\, these are just some of the many places he has visited and experienced. The artist gives us rare glimpses\, merging reality with a magical world. The exhibition is showcased at the Taipa Houses-Exhibitions Gallery. \nFinally\, the tapestries of Hungarian artist\, Zsuzsa Péreli are displayed at the Macao Contemporary Art Center – Navy Yard No. 1 with Looking out of the Credible exhibition. Péreli uses colourful threads\, rather than a brush. Expanding the genre of the tapestry\, she experiments with new materials\, techniques and procedures as she probes into the layers of time and memory. She includes “found objects” in her compositions\, demonstrating both a respect for tradition and a desire to break the mould. She also creates aquarelles and collages. SUMMARY:Art Macao: Reminiscences of the Silk Road - Exhibition of Cultural Relics of the Western Xia Dynasty
DESCRIPTION:(Featured image: Parcel-gilt bronze ox) \n“Reminiscences of the Silk Road – Exhibition of Cultural Relics of the Western Xia Dynasty”\, themed on the cultural relics of Western Xia\, showcases the archaeological finds of Western Xia Dynasty\, allowing the visitors to have a better understanding of the culture and history of the dynasty. The exhibition features a fine selection of 148 pieces (sets) of relics\, offering a compendious interpretation of the Western Xia civilization. Some rare items make their first appearance outside the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The Western Xia Dynasty was rich in cultural relics\, including writing and printing\, Buddhist scriptures and statues\, gold ware\, wood ware and glazed pottery in crafts\, as well as eave tiles and stone architectural elements. \nThrough the display of cultural relics in the form of calligraphy\, Buddhist pieces\, crafts and architecture of Western Xia\, the public can appreciate this unique and splendid civilization. The culture of Western Xia is also an important part of the Silk Road culture. This exhibition of valuable relics from Western Xia aims to allow the public to have a deeper understanding of the historical background of “The Belt and Road Initiative” and explore its significance in the modern and contemporary development . \nWestern Xia was founded in 1038AD\, located in the east of the Hexi Corridor stretch of the Silk Road. In its heyday its territory scope across what are now the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region\, Gansu Province\, Qinghai Province\, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Shanxi Province. It was said that the territory of the Western Xia Regime “stretches to the Yellow River in the east\, arrives at the Pass of the Jade Gate in the west\, connects with the Xiao Pass in the south and dominates the Gobi Desert in the north”. Over 190 years under the reigns of ten rulers\, Western Xia formed a tripartite confrontation with the Northern Song and Liao in its early stage\, and competed with the Southern Song and Jin later. The culture of Western Xia in full flourish faded into history. Until the 20th century\, with the discovery of documents and cultural relics\, the treasures and wisdom of the Western Xia people have reappeared before the world. In order to enhance the public’s understanding of the theme of the exhibition\, there are educational areas and workshops during the exhibition. \nWhen: 10:00am–6:00pm\, Tuesdays–Sundays\, June 15–October 6\, 2019 (no admittance after 5:30pm) \nWhere: Macao Museum\, 112 Praceta do Museu de Macau\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $15 per person \nFree admission for Macau residents \nFor more information\, check here \n\n“Reminiscences of the Silk Road – Exhibition of Cultural Relics of the Western Xia Dynasty” is part of the mega international art and cultural event Art Macao. \nHappening from May to October this year\, Art Macao brings together cultural institutions\, hotel and resort operators\, consular missions in Hong Kong and Macau to create an unforgettable atmosphere and cultural vitality to thrill residents and tourists alike. \n\nPolychrome ceramic Buddha head

SUMMARY:Life Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The concept of “Life”\, a long-standing subject in philosophy with various ideas being continuously advocated by philosophers throughout the history of human civilization\, is the most crucial theme in myths\, religions and theories. The understanding of Life influences people’s interpretation of life and their perspectives on society\, culture\, social norm\, power structure\, identity\, self-identification and so on. The concept of Life is the root of all issues. Each individual takes their entire life in quest of their own meaning of “Life”. Its meaning not only lives in the narrative of history and religion\, but also resides in our mind\, awaiting intellectual collision and discourse. \nPhotographers in the “Life” photography exhibition use photographs as carriers to embody their understanding of life and death. In place of expounding ideas by verbose writing\, the photographers deliver the notion by creating visual tension in their photographs. They anticipate an open “debate” with every exhibitor and ask questions regarding Life to all of us. Through this exhibition\, Lifehope Caritas Macau looks forward to starting a dialogue that transcends space with all of you. \nWhen: July 23–November\, 2019 \nWhere: Café Philo\, Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery\, Tap Seac Square\, M Dimensions\, A Porta da Arte\, Luís de Camões Garden\, Lou Lim Ieoc Garden\, Café Voyage \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check here

SUMMARY:Art Macao: "Journey" Exhibition at Studio City Macau
DESCRIPTION:Continuing the momentum of Art Macao\, Melco presents “Journey”\, a diverse selection of works inspired by the highly varied culture of anime. Forming part of Melco’s contribution to Art Macao: International Art Exhibition\, this unique exhibition is a visual adventure that explores the evolution of contemporary Japanese anime from its beginnings rooted in ukiyo-e\, the traditional art of Japanese woodblock print and painting. \nThe visual references of anime abound in Japan and beyond are seen as a visual signature of the nation.  Both the contemporary genres of anime and manga can trace their roots and influences in the woodblock art form of ukiyo-e and its Edo period heroes. Today\, its influences can be readily identified in such varying media as computer games\, toy culture\, and the work of multimedia artists around the world. This first-of-a-kind exhibition for Studio City Macau includes such highlights as Amanami Animated by MAP Office\, Mr Waterloo by Rainbo\, Waves in Time by Southbend\, Blingee by Han Yanjuan\, and the “Modern Art of Floating World” collection by Horihiro Mitomo and Ukiyoemon. \nAmanami Animated \nAmanami Animated is a contemporary animated drawing from the roots of the Edo period in Japan\, from ukiyo-e\, and from the Japanese contemporary expression of the history\, culture and traditions of the ama-san free divers who work in the Bay of Ise in Japan. This animation revisits and reimagines the patterns of the genre ukiyo-e\, not as a technique\, but as a fictional ethnographic representation of the coastal landscape during the Edo period. \nThe story is divided into eight scenes\, framed by a screen and defined by three main tableaux–water (blue)\, land (green)\, and home (yellow). The eight panels depict scenes derived from specific sets of narratives\, which are combined with a collection of myths\, beliefs and dreams that were collected by the artists during many trips to Japan. In this contemporary interpretation of the ukiyo-e\, the numerous drawing layers made by a computer replaces the traditional wood block and colored print processes. \nIn addition to “Journey”\, the installation of vibrant activations and cartoon characters designed by Hiroshi Yoshii has transformed Studio City Macau’s main lobby into an exciting world of Japanese anime. A series of interactive anime experiences are available for guests throughout the property as well! \nWhen: August 1–November\, 2019 \nWhere: Studio City Macau\, Estrada do Istmo\, Cotai \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check here \n\n“Journey” Exhibition at Studio City Macau is part of the mega international art and cultural event Art Macao. \nHappening from May to October this year\, Art Macao brings together cultural institutions\, hotel and resort operators\, consular missions in Hong Kong and Macau to create an unforgettable atmosphere and cultural vitality to thrill residents and tourists alike.
