SUMMARY:Naughty Roll Design Show
DESCRIPTION:“Naughty Roll” is a risograph studio composed of four graphic designers. The meaning of the word “shasha roll” in Cantonese mostly refers to sloppy things but also has a quirky and interesting language. However\, “Naughty Roll” is not so sloppy in design and printing in stencil printing. They believe that the design should be more than mud\, and must constantly pursue the design ideas of sky-traveling\, brain-opening\, “play\, play seriously\, play with quality” to play and design while presenting high-quality products is their ultimate goal. \nIn addition to the flat display\, this exhibition also displays and sells products. It will also deconstruct the illustrations printed by Risograph and split the color version to let viewers understand the printing principles and characteristics of Risograph\, so as to promote and popularize Risograph\, as well as the possibility of printing in Macau. \nWhen: May 24–July 11\, 2020 \nWhere: At Light Art Gallery\, Hongyifeng Creative Club\, 1 Pátio do Padre Narciso\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 6595 7203\, check their Facebook event page or send an email to aelartmo@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Program: Eerie Scenery
DESCRIPTION:Artist Dennis Wong is particularly interested in understanding the relationships between human beings\, spaces and living environments. These elements have inspired the artist to march forward boldly in order to fulfill his dreams. In his “Eerie Scenery”\, the artist takes photographs of strangers\, vagrants\, Sham Shui Po\, and macrographies of human bodies. \nOften his pictures lead you astray like a guessing game\, and the more you look\, the more doubts you’d find. Logical connections fail to establish\, yet the “people” in the pictures intrigue as chronicles of contemporary life. Therefore\, a work that does not possess a priori justification can obscure the “private” and “public” propositions. Without the proverbial “box”\, then we are free to think outside familiar routines…indeed\, Dennis Wong has never attempted to offer a comprehensive narrative in his work. \nWhen: 12:00pm–7:00pm\, June 2–July 12\, 2020 \nWhere: Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Artistic Calligraphy and Painting Works of the Women Associates
DESCRIPTION:The Rui Cunha Foundation presents the exhibition “Artistic Calligraphy and Painting Works of the Women Associates”\, celebrating the first anniversary of the Macau Women Calligraphers\, Painters and Sculptors Association\, which took place on March 24. It brings together 34 pieces made by 33 female artists from Macau. \nThese works seek to convey “the active and passionate role of the Macau women towards traditional Chinese culture”\, according to the president of the association\, Hong San San. They also highlight the reality that is being experienced today at a global level\, as several pieces “very clearly express the idea that resilience and a positive spirit are the determining qualities in times of crisis and adversity”. \nThe most recent works were even the subject of the association’s first virtual exhibition – “Ode to the Heroes of the Fight against Pandemic” – held online on February 25\, which paid tribute to the men and women who were on the front lines in defense of the health and safety of the population. \nThe Macau Women Calligraphers\, Painters and Sculptors Association is a non-profit organization\, founded in March 2019 by the current president\, Hong San San. The basic principles for its constitution are the establishment of an exchange platform for women artists and the gathering of means for learning and researching the theory and the practice of such craft. The project also intends\, through the constant consolidation of artistic techniques and the organization of various periodic events\, to promote the dissemination and to contribute to the sustainable development of traditional Chinese culture\, in terms of its preservation and diffusion among future generations. The current exhibition is open until June 13 at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery. \nWhen: June 2–13\, 2020 \nWhere: Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery\, GF 749 Avenida da Praia Grande\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:‘Art-City-People’ Exhibition Series: Journey-Memory-Fragment
DESCRIPTION:The first exhibition of Ox Warehouse’s “Art-City-People” Exhibition Series\, invited artist Xiaoqiao Li who is a PhD student in Visual Arts Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University now to hold a solo exhibition. His current practice explores the physical process and methodology of surface\, space and memory through the crossing of medias: drawing\, printmaking\, photography\, moving image and projection. \nThe exhibition “Journey-Memory-Fragment” presents videos\, photography\, interactive games and 3D-printed works\, the multimedia display takes up the first and second floor. Over the years\, Xiaoqiao strives to break through the limitations of two-dimensional art\, such as the combination of photography and 3D printing in Fragment-reconstitution\, an experimental work elevated by his printmaking logics and syntax. \nIn another work Fragment-Don’t clear\, the videogame allowed the artist an alternative to communicate in digital application\, as a study on how images manifest in time and space. Xiaoquao Li has considered printmaking as a creative methodology\, whereas\, all of his works are precisely calibrated to demonstrate a profound thesis. \nWhen: June 3–July 12\, 2020 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Fashion Is an Attitude – A Film Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Cinematheque Passion brings the glamourous “Fashion Is an Attitude” – A Film Showcase happening from June 14 to 30. Split into three sessions: “Designer! Designer!”\, “Behind-the-scenes” and “On Cities and Clothiers”\, the festival features eleven works that explore the relationship between fashion and film. In addition\, Cinematheque Passion pays tribute to the selected films and their fashion designers by teaming up with local fashion brands\, designers\, make-up artists\, hairstylists\, models and photographers in producing compelling visuals. Costumes and hairstyles play important roles in film visuals; while Macau film workers deliver quality work. Cinematheque Passion hopes to showcase the various talents of local filmmakers and professionals. \nDesigner! Designer! comprised of features showing unforgettable fashion by brand designers. Starring timeless style icon Audrey Hepburn donning one outfit after another by the then-young-designer Hubert de Givenchy\, Funny Face is widely considered the ultimate byword for fashion films. Japanese maestro Kitano tells three quiet yet poignant tales of love in Dolls. This colorful and exquisite work becomes an ideal stage for Yohji Yamamoto\, who provided the costumes which\, in the film’s near silence\, seem to speak for the characters. Saint Laurent tells the story of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent when he was at the creative helm of Dior\, at the young age of 21. In the hands of Jean Paul Gaultier\, the costumes in The Fifth Element are an unrepeatable showcase of his futuristic aesthetics. \n“Behind-the-scenes” is all about what fashion is. Different people have different interpretations. Three documentaries transport the audience into the fashion world. Jean Paul Gaultier: Freak & Chic looks back at the multi-disciplinary ‘Fashion Freak Show’ that Gaultier staged in 2018 – telling the story of his life with a most extravagant showcase of fashion\, film\, theatre and dance. Advanced Style documents stylish older women on the streets of New York. What started as a blog featuring these senior fashionistas evolved into a documentary depicting seven of Cohen’s subjects\, in their 60s to 80s\, setting out to break the stereotypes about beauty and aging with their confidently and uniquely styled outfits. Reiner Holzemer\, the filmmaker behind the critically acclaimed documentary Dries\, returns with Martin Margiela: In His Own Words\, featuring another Belgian designer\, the media-shy iconoclast Martin Margiela. \n“On Cities and Clothiers” session looks at the urbanity of some fashion cities – Paris\, Milan\, New York\, and Los Angeles. American director Robert Altman sets this film behind the scenes of the Paris Fashion Week in Ready to Wear. The sartorial story stars with the sudden death of the Fashion Council head which sets off a chain reaction involving his wife and her mysterious lover\, probing journalists\, and a heart-breaker photographer. Apart from his collaboration with multinational brands like Fendi and Valentino\, Guadagnino\, who shot to international fame with Call Me By Your Name\, has shown his keen sense of and interest in fashion as early as in I Am Love. \nWoody Allen’s early romantic classic Annie Hall captures the life of the world’s fashion capital\, New York. The role of Annie (Diane Keaton) breaks from the typical feminine image\, and her signature men’s tie and vest look still have its effects on the fashion world today. Her decidedly cool androgynous style made her an enduring fashion icon in film history. Danish auteur Nicolas Winding Refn dials his style up to the max in the intriguing The Neon Demon\, immersing the audience’s senses in a mesmerizing audio-visual feast of neon lights\, electronica\, and carnality. Tickets are available from June 11 (Thursday\, starting at 10:00am) online and at the Cinematheque Passion ticket office. \nWhen: June 14–30\, 2020 \nWhere: Cinematheque Passion\, 13 Travessa da Paixão\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $60 per person. \nFull-time students and senior citizens age 65 or above can enjoy 50% discount. SUMMARY:teamLab SuperNature Macao
DESCRIPTION:Featured image: teamLab. Expanding Three-Dimensional Existence in Transforming Space – Flattening 3 Colors and 9 Blurred Colors\, Free Floating\, 2009-2018\, Interactive Installation\, Endless\, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi © teamLab \nTeamLab SuperNature Macao is a groundbreaking permanent interactive experience opening at The Venetian Macao in June\, 2020. Cotai Expo boasts 5\,000 square meters of labyrinthine floor space. With eight meter-high ceilings throughout\, the space is transformed by teamLab into an extremely complex\, three-dimensional world across varying elevations\, featuring immersive and compelling artworks. \nThis is a single\, massive world comprised of works by art collective teamLab that aims to explore new perceptions of the world and the continuity between humans and nature. It is a “body immersive” museum centered around a group of works that blur the boundaries between people’s bodies and art. In teamLab SuperNature\, people immerse their bodies in art with others\, influencing and becoming a part of the artworks themselves. People become one with the art\, blurring their perception of the boundaries between the body and the artwork\, and thereby recognizing the continuity between the self and the world. \nThe seasons change gradually across the installation space of Mountain of Flowers and People: Lost\, Immersed and Reborn. A seasonal year of flowers blossoms according to the changing seasons\, and the place where they grow gradually moves. The flowers bud\, grow\, and blossom before their petals begin to wither and eventually fade away. The cycle of growth and decay repeats itself in perpetuity. If a person stays still\, the flowers surrounding them grow and bloom more abundantly. If viewers touch or step on the flowers\, they shed their petals\, wither\, and die all at once. Neither a prerecorded animation nor on loop\, the work is rendered in real-time by a computer program. The interaction between the viewer and the installation causes continuous change in the artwork; previous visual states can never be replicated\, and will never reoccur. \nThe Infinite Crystal Universe artwork is forever evolving\, changing moment to moment due to the people in the space. Pointillism uses an accumulation of distinct dots of color to create a picture. Here\, light points are used to create three-dimensional objects. This interactive artwork expresses the universe through accumulated light points that spread infinitely in all directions. People can use their smartphones to select elements that make up the universe by dragging them and releasing them into The Infinite Crystal Universe. Each element of the universe sent into the work influences that of other elements and is influenced by the presence of people in the space. \nThere are a lot more installations on-site\, so be sure to head there with the whole family! Kids are going to be thrilled with all the fun and interaction teamLab SuperNature allows. \nWhen: Daily\, 10:00am–10:00pm (last entry 9:15pm)\, June 15\, 2020 onwards \nWhere: Cotai Expo\, The Venetian Macao\, Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança\, Cotai \nHow much: MOP $238 (adults)\, MOP $168 (children aged three to 12) \nFor more information\, check the event’s official website and buy tickets here \nteamLab. From a society perspective\, I am an administration executive\, a teacher. But from an inner perspective\, how is myself? Through the process of this series of art creation\, I dig out my feelings\, struggles\, likes\, thoughts\, dreams\, and find out more about ‘real’ me. It doesn’t matter whether a woman is flower or vase\, I am who I am. Ladies\, love yourself and make your dreams come true.” \nBorn in Macau\, Yaya studied business administration in college and obtained a master’s degree. Starting from 2000\, Yaya started learning sketching and oil painting. Recently\, she has more participation in various art events and education. Throughout these experiences\, she realized that there is no age limit to become an artist. \nWhen: July 11–August 21\, 2020 \nWhere: 10 Fantasia\, 10 Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro\, St. Lazarus District\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, send an email to ark2014assart@gmail.com or check their Facebook page

SUMMARY:A Place That Is Never on the Map Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Cai Guojie’s artworks might seem disparate at first glance\, yet they are always means with which he ponders and probes culture\, creations made from deconstruction and reconstruction. \nPainted in vivid colors\, landmarks in Macau such as St. Dominic’s Church and Rua da Cunha seem to wear the western skins in the paintings\, though in fact are built of the skeleton of ancient Chinese calligraphy. To put it precisely\, Cai always writes\, not paints\, his watercolor pieces; they are sigils of culture. \nTrained in installation art\, Cai is also fascinated by deconstruction and reconstruction. In the painting installation “St. Dominic’s Church”\, he decodes the lines and color patches within the painting and reproduces in three-dimensional space a new church\, like a strange stainless-steel bonsai. Lines in disarray\, layers cut out and reorganized\, the appearance of the object is shattered. In this grotesque anatomy\, his artistic statement comes to light forthright. \nPreviously in the “Half-Field Plan”\, Cai\, served as a boundary manager\, auctioned these spaces to participants and sparked a discussion on land ownership and use right. Here he becomes a worker who collects dust and grits between the Portuguese calçadas outside the gallery\, with which he welds into a weight\, the essential measurement tool for scales in ancient China. Interestingly\, “Quan”\, or weight\, can be literally translated as “power” or “right” in Chinese. Now the trivial dirt between tiny cracks can actually hold sway. Perhaps\, the purest form of power can only be found in the most marginal space where no one touches. Always cocooning reason with beauty\, Cai Guojie’s artworks are vessels of his unwavering position for culture\, which he holds dear and never compromises. \nWhen: July 20–August 22\, 2020 \nWhere: Creative Macau–Center for Creative Studies\, G/F Macau Cultural Centre Building\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page
