SUMMARY:Interactive Installation “What Are We Waiting for” in Albergue SCM
DESCRIPTION:Organized by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Graduates and Students and supported by Albergue SCM and Macau Heritage Ambassadors Association\, What Are We Waiting For installation is an exhibition at Albergue SCM from June 18 to June 23\, 2021. Through What Are We Waiting For is an interactive installation which appears to be a washing machine\, participants can experience a “washing procedure” about time with people from Hong Kong and Japan through video clip and online communication software. Those who look into the “washing machines” would not be waiting for their washings to be done. Instead\, they would face part of the creators’ current situations of a “new normal” during Covid-19 through music and kaleidoscopic images manipulated by mirrors and video work. In the machine\, the waiting time of the washing machines is replaced by the contemplation time for the audience\, and expectation and anxiety in them and self-reflection through a new “washing machines” may gradually become more noticeable. \nThe installation is created by Kenneth\, Cheong Wai Kit (installation curator)\, Zoe\, Wong Yan Tung\, Frances\, Leong Yuen Tung\, Yoyo\, Yau Yau Yin\, Angel\, Chiu Oi Ying\, Clara\, HO Sze Wing\, Ayami Oki-Siekierczak with special thanks to Sogo Akiyoshi. \nWhen: June 18–June 26\, 2021 \nWhere: Albergue SCM\, 8 Calçada da Igreja de S. SUMMARY:A Century of Glory: Ceramics\, Poems and Calligraphy Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Rui Cunha Foundation inaugurates on Thursday\, July 2nd at 6:00 pm\, the Ceramics\, Poems and Calligraphy Exhibition “A Century of Glory”\, highlighting the month of the Chinese Communist Party’s Centenary\, founded on the 23rd of July\, 1921. The event is co-organized by the Macau Wisdom Humanities Encourage Political Association and the Greater Bay Area Ceramic Art Collection and Exchange Association\, with the support of FRC. \nTo celebrate this historic moment\, 31 pieces of art will be exhibited\, bringing together sculptures created for this event by renowned masters\, but also borrowings from collections of different eras\, with mixed themes and varied techniques\, seeking to show the historical development of ceramic sculpture and the charm of these works over time. \n“The various ceramic works in the exhibition were collected and kindly loaned by the Greater Bay Area Ceramic Art Collection and Exchange Association\,” reveals the artists’ manifest\, with pieces dating from the 1920s\, 1950s\, or 1970s. There are also commemorative works from 2021. “Some large-scale ceramic sculptures were specially created by two masters of arts and crafts from Guangdong – Huang Zhuonan (黃焯南) and Chen Peijin (陳沛津) – namely the ‘Kiang Wu Hospital’\, the ‘Yilong Firecrackers Factory’ and the ‘Macau National Day Archway’ pieces. These artworks are magnificent\, rich in composition\, vivid and lively\, using techniques to express innovation in tradition and exquisiteness in novelty\,” suggests the same document. \nThe exhibition creatively combines three artistic modalities: ceramics\, poetry\, and calligraphy. “It is particularly worth mentioning that the famous Macau calligrapher\, Ng Choi Kun\, uses different calligraphy styles to write poems and themes specially composed by local writers for the ceramic sculpture exhibits.” The poems accompany these pieces\, with inscriptions on the sculptures or handwritten separately. \nWhen: July 1–7\, 2021 \nWhere: Rui Cunha Foundation\, GF 749 Avenida da Praia Grande\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nAdmission is free\, but subject to limited capacity\, in accordance with the health recommendations implemented by local authorities.

DESCRIPTION:Titled “Non Character Non View”\, the exhibition focuses on writing and photography as main art media. SUMMARY:5th Macao International Documentary Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Featured image above: Film still from “Radiograph of a Family” \nThe 5th Macao International Documentary Film Festival (MOIDF) takes place from July 9 to 25 and features a series of fantastic films to watch alone\, with your date\, family members and even friends. With screens at both Casa Garden and Cinema Alegria\, it discusses several themes across different generations\, focusing on vintage\, classics\, and new releases. If you’re interested in cinema and film\, then this is the ideal thing to do this summer. \nAs the first and only film festival dedicated to documentary film in Macao\, MOIDF hopes to build the bridge and connection between the documentary and Macau’s audience. \nAccording to the curating team\, “we have never been so dependent on videography to connect with the world. But could we simply connect with and understand the real world through videography? We have been forced to have a lot of “me time” by the pandemic. How could we stay at home on our own and reconcile with ourselves? Each film selected in this edition of the MOIDF\, perhaps\, tries to answer these questions. \nThis festival features films such as The Tree Remembers\, The Witches of the Orient\, Taivalu + A Study of Fly\, Minamata Mandala (Part I) and many more. \nThe pandemic fluctuations continue to persist in different countries\, alongside the wars and turmoils in various regions in the past two years\, the world seems to “get dark by the time”*. For cinema\, when it gets dark it means a new start — the start of a film. When the darkness is over\, the lights are back. From the world of cinema to the real world\, you might realize the world has changed a bit. Perhaps\, it is due to the fact that while directors present the cruel reality in the films they also offer covertly a glimpse of hope. Like a quote from The Metamorphosis of Birds\, one of the films in this edition of MOIDF\, “Every day the earth’s orbit changes\, as if it were telling us that we must change too.” We hope that the 5th MODIF\, after being suspended for a year\, could accompany everyone through films\, and envision the pandemic world from a new perspective.  \nWhen: July 9–25\, 2021 \nWhere: Cinema Alegria\, 85D-85E Estrada do Repouso\, Macau and Casa Garden\, 13 Praça de Luís de Camões\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $60 (normal ticket)\, MOP $30 (discount ticket) per person \nFor more information\, check their official website or send them an email to info@moidf.com.
