SUMMARY:Armed Culture or Cultural Arms - Helmet Series by Wong Ka Long
DESCRIPTION:Macau artist Wong Ka Long’s exhibition “Armed Culture or Cultural Arms – Helmet Series by Wong Ka Long” is opening at AFA on October 20. \nWong Ka Long graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with a solid foundation in sketching and classical sculpting. With his high artistic attainments\, he as a modest and loyal spokesperson of the notables in the cultural and artistic sphere has created numerous sculptures of them that stand across the tiny city of Macau. \nFrom the statue of Luís de Camões at the Taipa Houses to the bronze statue of Professor Jao Tsung-I\, each one of them demonstrates his mastery and knowledge of the materials and techniques that characterize sculpture of the Italian Renaissance\, Chinese Socialist Realism\, and Western modern art. Nevertheless\, Wong has never slowed down his pace. \nWith his art techniques\, Wong has successfully conveyed his deep philosophical reflection on warfare. This exhibition weaves together ingeniously the three courses of warfare\, embodied by authentic combat helmets and sound effects\, culture\, by imitated and manipulated helmets and military culture\, by pieces of ordnance acquired through collection or charity sale. Wong’s artworks are the arms of culture as well as a culture that is itself armed. Apart from stretching the mind of the viewers by urging them to contemplate the intricate relationship between warfare and culture\, his art also encourages them to create a culture of their own through experiencing their own ‘lives of thought’. \n \nWhen: October 21–November 19\, 2017 \nWhere: Ground Floor\, Tak Chun Macau\, Art for All\, Art Garden\, 265 Avenida Dr. Rodrigi Rodrigues\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, visit www.afamacau.com or +853 2836 6064

DESCRIPTION:Macau artist Fortes Pakeong Sequeira will have his solo exhibition “Lonely Tones – Works by Fortes Pakeong Sequeira” in AFA Macau. This time Pakeong will have his latest artworks including installation\, animation and etc. aims at opening up new perspectives in which the viewer is\, fortunately\, able to engage. \nWe tend to generalize on the basis of our given experience of how things are and then believe that we hooked up with the fundamental level of reality. The world might not exist but the world of Fortes Pakeong Sequeira is bigger than its own limits\, and his artworks include not just humans but elves and fairies\, angels and demons\, or maybe they are “unicorns on the far side of the moon”\, or maybe they are only sweet and angry cartoons – as all of this exists\, all of this is part of the world even if only in imagination and in the artist’s own field of sense. \nThese  Lonely Tones cartoons are not real humans. They don’t exist in the realm of scientific explanation but they do exist in Fortes Pakeong Sequeira’s artworks. In a nutshell\, the search for meaning in a world that might not exist is the possibility of engagement with infinite senses and that’s what this exhibition does to the viewer – it opens up new perspectives in which the viewer is\, fortunately\, able to engage. \nIn the end\, these cartoons are not cartoons anymore — they are a mirror of ourselves at the same time that they are\, as in all Fortes Pakeong Sequeira’s artworks\, a sincere poignant self-portrait. \n \nWhen: October 28–November 26\, 2017 \nWhere: Ground Floor\, Tak Chun Macau\, Art for All\, Art Garden\, 265 Avenida Dr. Rodrigi Rodrigues\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, visit www.afamacau.com or +853 2836 6064

SUMMARY:O Ballet de Monte-Carlo - “O Sonho”
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to explore a vibrant fantasy land brought by the Monte-Carlo Ballet\, a noble representative of the finest European dance and dramatic tradition! The acclaimed company is bringing Le Songe\, a ravishing adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, conceived and directed by choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot. \nTaking the audience surfing through a wave of their maddest desires\, this dream-like comedy merges the imaginary prowess of three worlds\, reflecting the stages of maturity throughout a dancer’s career. Raucous\, witty and acrobatic\, the choreography starts by depicting the world of the young Athenians\, represented by intense\, vibrant rhythm. The narrative is followed by a disconcerting type of abstraction and eroticism amongst the Fairies\, and the third and final world introduces us to a universe of colorful\, eccentric Artisans. At times mischievous\, immodest and frolicsome\, the plot of Le Songe is set through the fascinating musical dimensions of three ingenious\, creative composers for each world. From Mendelssohn’s clarity and grace to Daniel Teruggi’s sensual passion and Bertrand Maillot’s comic escape. \nEstablished in 1985\, when her Royal Highness Princess Carolina decided to sponsor a new dance company\, the Monte Carlo Ballet have been led by J.C. Maillot since 1993. The choreographer turned the company into an international touring troupe as the Principality became an exceptional home for dancers and a destination for audiences. \nNow\, the time has come for us to be inspired by Monaco’s top-notch dance venture\, indulging on the delights of Shakespeare’s most light-hearted piece. A performance to be staged with all the beauty\, tenderness and humor a timeless masterpiece deserves! \nWhen: 8:00pm\, November 3–4\, 2017 \nWhere: Macao Cultural Centre\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, S/N\, Nape\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $300\, MOP $250\, MOP $200\, MOP $150 \nFor more details\, visit www.macauticket.com
