Being one of the best regions for cheese\, Loire Valley is well-known for its goat cheese and the cheese station features goat cheese of different flavours and textures\, namely Selles-sur-Cher\, Sainte Maure\, Valençay\, and Crottin de Chavignol. Charcuterie and Terrine are staples in French cuisine and guests can savour a selection of cold cut and sausages from Loire Valley paired with the local Fouace bread. The Loire is the longest river in France and home to an abundance of fresh water fishes. The buffet menu offers European fish specialties in rotation and guests can enjoy rare fish that includes zander\, perch\, pike\, or bleak\, which is simply grilled to preserve its original taste. \nSurrounded by forests and vineyards\, Loire Valley has a rich production of mushrooms and wine\, which serve as the main ingredients for delicacies that include sautéed porcini with truffle\, French bistro classic beef Bourguignon\, and challans duck confit prepared in Loire Valley Muscadet. In addition\, guests can treat themselves to the country flavour of Pork Stew\, which is simmered in a variety of vegetables. While the British like to enjoy sweet and savoury snacks with a cup of black tea\, the French prefer cakes and sweet pastries with coffee during “Le Goûter”\, which represents the essence of their lifestyle and the way to “avoir la pêche”! As celebration of Le French GourMay\, RendezVous Lobby Bar is promoting the art and culture of French afternoon tea with three classic French desserts\, namely crème brûlée\, Paris-Brest\, and macaron. Paris-Brest was created by pâtissier Louis Durand in 1891 to commemorate the Paris–Brest–Paris bicycle race. \nFilled with fine silky cream\, Paris-Brest has a circular shape that represents a wheel and the round pastry is now a favourite all over France. As for Crème Brûlée\, the earliest known recipe was found in royal chef François Massialot’s 1691 cookbook Cuisinier royal et bourgeois. Literally meaning “burnt cream”\, crème brûlée consists of a soft custard base topped with a fragrant layer of hardened caramelized sugar. \nWith roots in Italian monasteries\, macaron was brought to France during the 16th century and was transformed by Parisian pâtissier Pierre Hermé during the early 20th century to include crispy colourful shells and a soft and moist filling. The three classic French desserts have a limited offer at RendezVous Lobby Bar in May and come with a cup of coffee or tea\, allowing guests to fully enjoy the elegance of French art de vivre. \nWhen: Tuesday–Saturday\, 2:30pm–5:00pm\, May 1–31\, 2019 \nWhere: RendezVous Lobby Bar\, Sofitel Macau At Ponte 16 Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $88 per person \nFor reservations\, call RendezVous Lobby Bar at +853 8861 7213

SUMMARY:Movie Screening: The Young Girls of Rochefort
DESCRIPTION:The movie “The Young Girls of Rochefort” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Score of a Musical Feature in the 41st Academy Awards in 1969. Prior to The Young Girls of Rochefort\, French director Jacques Demy’s previous work “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” had proved a great success. But with it being a purely sung cinematic opera\, without any dance sequence\, Demy vowed to shoot a “true” blockbuster musical! \nIn The Young Girls of Rochefort\, French top actress Catherine Deneuve acts once again as the female lead–this time co-starring with her real life sister Françoise Dorléac to portray twin sisters. The Young Girls of Rochefort also invited Gene Kelly\, the “Dance King” of Hollywood who starred in many musicals to make a cameo\, thus realising an unprecedented cooperation between the two major musical powerhouses of Europe and America. Gorgeous colors and an amazing mise-en-scène resulted in this musical classic that deeply influenced later generations! French iconic musical composer Michel Jean Legrand\, who tragically passed on at the beginning of this year\, was nominated for an Academy Award for his score\, turning The Young Girls of Rochefort into one of his best known works. \nThe story centers on twin sisters Delphine (Deneuve) and Solange (Dorléac). Delphine teaches ballet classes and Solange gives music lessons\, but each longs to find an ideal love. When the carnival comes to town\, it also brings the men of their dreams. However\, although the town is small\, the two sisters always miss their dreamboats… Now\, at the end of the carnival\, can each of them finally meet their ideal love? The movie is directed by Jacques Demy\, has 128 minutes and Chinese and English subtitles \nWhen: Friday\, 7:30pm\, May 3\, 2019 \nWhere: Albergue SCM\, 8 Calçada da Igreja de S. Ten dancers supported by ropes appear to change their focus of gravity from the horizontal to the vertical and dash up walls\, while during other moments they perform dance movements to contemporary music when suspended from a height. Another Festival highlight is the dance show “Rain”\, which returns to Macao 18 years after its debut. Additionally during the Festival\, the 120th anniversary of the birth of Chinese novelist\, Lao She\, is marked by performance of “Mr Ma and Son”\, a dramatisation of his novel of the same name. The narrative brings together Beijing-style wit and English humor. \n \nThe Festival also hosts the play “Karl Valentin Kabarett”\, dealing with the work of cabaret performer-turned-author Karl Valentin – sometimes known as the “German Charlie Chaplin”. It features music and dance as well as drama. The Festival’s closing performance\, The Soul of Macao\, celebrates the 10th anniversary of Cantonese opera’s inscription on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity\, with an original play by a Macao writer. The work is interpreted by actors from Macao and from Foshan in Mainland China. \nWhen: May 3–June 2\, 2019 \nVertikal – Friday and Saturday\, 8:00pm\, May 3 and 4\, 2019 \nWonder.Land – Saturday and Sunday\, 3:00pm\, 8:00pm\, May 4 and 5\, 2019 \nMu Guiying Breaks through the Tianmen Gate – Saturday\, 7:30pm\, May 4\, 2019 \nAn Alpine Symphony – Thursday\, 8:00pm\, May 9\, 2019 \nRain – Sunday\, 8:00pm\, May 12\, 2019 \nMau Tan\, Kat Cheong\, Four Dimension Spatial – Saturday and Sunday\, 3:00pm and 8:00pm\, May 18 and 19\, 2019 \nThe Odyssey: A wandering journey based on Homer – Saturday and Sunday\, 8:00pm\, May 18 and 19\, 2019 \nSaving Troubled Daddy – Saturday and Sunday\, 8:00pm\, May 18 and 19\, 2019 \nMeet-the-Artist: The Art of Play (Creating Theatre for Children) – Monday\, 8:00pm\, May 20\, 2019 \nChinese Musical Painting – Tuesday\, 8:00pm\, May 21\, 2019 \nMotion\, Saturday\, 8:00pm\, May 25\, 2019 \nMr Ma and Son\, by the BJAMC Drama (Beijing) – Saturday and Sunday\, 8:00pm\, May 25 and 26\, 2019 \nPerforming Arts Gala – Friday–Sunday\, 6:30pm\, May 31–June 2\, 2019 \nThe Soul of Macao – Saturday\, 8:00pm\, June 1\, 2019 \nKaléidoscope\, by the Hiu Kok Theatre Association – Saturday and Sunday\, 8:00pm\, June 1 and 2\, 2019 \nFilipino Traditional Dance Experience\, by the Mansci Dance Company – Sunday\, 3:00pm\, June 2\, 2019 \nWhere: Macao Cultural Centre\, Iao Hon Market Garden\, Macao Conservatory\, Old Court Building\, Alegria Cinema \nHow much: MOP $100–$180 per person depending on the show \nCheck out more updates on their website or MGTO’s\, or call +853 2836 6866\, +853 2855 5555

SUMMARY:“Beauty in the New Era” Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:(Featured image: A Canal in Shaoxing\, by Wu Guanzhong (1977)) \nThe “Beauty in the New Era” exhibition\, held from May 4 to July 28\, features nearly 90 masterpieces by various contemporary masters from the collection of the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC)\, including masterpieces by Qi Baishi\, Zhang Daqian\, Xu Beihong\, Liu Haisu\, Lin Fengmian\, Fu Baoshi\, Li Keran\, among others\, providing a comprehensive overview of the development of Chinese art over the past hundred years. Originally debuted in NAMOC in 2017\, the exhibition had a great success facing endless queues of people of all backgrounds and age that were coming to appreciate the art works. \nWu Weishan\, Director of the National Art Museum of China\, is particularly proud of this exhibition\, which is brought to Macau as a token of close relationship of Macau with the People’s Republic of China. According to the organizer of the showcase\, “Macau is a dazzling bright pearl inlaid in the beautiful mosaic of China”\, which provides a major opportunity to show art to all. Asia is boldly highlighted here; landscapes are taken to a new level and people can almost feel the paintings coming to life. The works of Xu Beihong\, for instance: having studied in the West to search for a new meaning in Chinese arts\, the artist returned to motherland trying to introduce Western realism into Chinese paintings. “War Horse” and “A Group Gallop” are two of the artist’s highlights\, depicting figures of horses like few have. \nBaoshi cun (Baoshi wrinkle style) brushwork can also be appreciated at this exhibition. This brushwork is Fu Baoshi’s unique and vanguardist painting style. Fu employs “meticulous lines to depict the vestiges of nature to represent universal phenomena and human emotions”\, as stated by Wu Weishan\, Director of the National Art Museum of China. “Beauty in the New Era” is a tribute to the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China\, but also a celebration of Macau’s return to the motherland. History\, calligraphy\, ink\, painting\, contemporary views of China and some of the greatest artists of this country are all present elements living in Macao Museum of Art until the end of July. The audience will be enthralled by the beauty of this era\, with the art made in a country continuously growing and evolving. \nWhen: 10:00am–7:00pm\, Tuesdays–Sundays\, May 4–July 28\, 2019 \nWhere: Macao Museum of Art\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 8791 9814\, email mam@icm.gov.mo or visit Art Macao’s website \n\n“Beauty in the New Era” exhibition is part of the mega international art and cultural event Art Macao.\nHappening from May to October this year\, Art Macao brings together cultural institutions\, hotel and resort operators\, consular missions in Hong Kong and Macau to create an unforgettable atmosphere and cultural vitality to thrill residents and tourists alike. \n\nStill Lives (1947)\, by Pang Xunqin

SUMMARY:A River of Divine Imperfections Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Ox Warehouse is having “A River of Divine Imperfections” exhibition opened until June 16\, 2019. This solo showcase by artist Ernest Van explores themes such as religion\, science\, spirituality and practice. As science topples religion\, reason has become the principle to worship and our spirituality has been squashed. \nA fable tells how the human heart was at first located in the middle of the chest\, but after years of being disregarded\, it had gradually moved to the side. With scientific and material advances\, we have reduced distances and multiplied productivity\, yet none of this has brought about happiness or clarity for humankind. Either of ancient religions or new age spiritual healing\, no matter the name or practice it takes\, all comes from the human desire to obtain ‘inner peace’. \nThis time Ox warehouse has invited Ernest Van who graduated from the Department of Graphic Communication Arts of the National Taiwan University of Arts to exhibit at the Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site. Ernest regards of his creation as an inner exploration of the self\, producing works with the theme of ‘healing of the heart’. In this exhibition\, his work isn’t trying to convey any rational ‘idea’ or invoke ‘introspection’. Rather\, through infusing spiritual symbols and methods into this work\, he hopes to lead his visitors into a spiritual sanctuary\, where they can enter the ‘state’ and try to elicit one of the more ‘archaic’ functions of art – ‘healing of the heart’. \nWhen: May 8–June 16\, 2019 \nWhere: Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site\, 15 R. do Volong\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:John Stowell Group Live in LMA
DESCRIPTION:John Stowell is a unique jazz guitarist influenced as much by pianists and horn players as he is by guitarists. His original take on harmony\, chords and improvisation sets him apart. He has taught internationally for over 40 years in every educational setting.\nHis clinics are informal\, hands-on and informative. In addition to music theory and guidelines for improvisation\, John shares his professional experience with the business of music. \nStowell began his successful career in the early 1970’s with private study with guitarist Linc Chamberland and pianist John Mehegan. Both men were valuable mentors to John\, allowing him to play with them as he progressed in his development. Several years later he met bassist David Friesen in New York City\, and they formed a duo that recorded and toured prolifically for seven years\, with performances in the United States\, Canada\, Europe and Australia. In 1983\, John and David joined flutist Paul Horn and Paul’s son Robin Horn (on drums) for a historic tour of the Soviet Union. This was the first time in forty years that an American jazz group had been invited to play public performances in Russia. In 1993\, 1995\, 1998 and 2012 John returned to Russia\, playing in numerous cities. His two sold-out performances in Kursk may have been the first appearances there by an American jazz musician. \nJohn continues to tour\, record and teach internationally. He has been Artist-In-Residence at schools in Germany\, Indonesia\, Argentina\, and in the United States and Canada. He served as assistant director and performer in Oregon Public Broadcasting’s PDX Jazz Summit in 1991\, and since 1995 has been a contributing columnist for a number of magazines\, including “Downbeat”\, “Guitar Player”\, “Canadian Musician”\, “Soundcheck” (Germany)\, and “Guitar Club” (Italy). SUMMARY:Art Macao: Grace Kelly: From Hollywood to Monaco – Artists’ Tributes
DESCRIPTION:(Featured image: Photograph of Grace Kelly at the Oscar Ceremony receiving her Best Actress Award for the film Country Girl in 1955\, by Bettmann / Photo credit: Getty Images) \n“Grace Kelly: From Hollywood to Monaco – Artists’ Tributes” is co-organized by the Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation and Grimaldi Forum of Monaco\, one of a series of activities of “Art Macao”\, a five-month mega international art cultural event. The highlight of the exhibition is an original Andy Warhol painting of Grace Kelly\, displayed in a specially constructed venue at Galaxy Macau’s Crystal Lobby. \nThe exhibition traces the story of Oscar-winning actress Grace Kelly (1929–1982)\, from her Hollywood days to becoming Princess of Monaco. An important style icon of the 20th century\, Grace Kelly embodied the myths of power and timelessness which explains the continuing interest and fascination people have of her. A star of Hollywood films in the 1950s\, Grace Kelly became a princess in “old Europe”\, joining a royal family with a history which dates back almost one thousand years. \nGrace Kelly has continued to inspire artists throughout her life\, from famous photographers to visual artists such as Andy Warhol\, who portrayed her through his Pop Art prints. As an artists’ tributes exhibition\, this show highlights her role as a muse\, as well as her personal enthusiasm for artistic creation. The exhibition is exceptional in many ways; a temporary gallery was specially created for this exhibition to display collections from the Prince’s Palace of Monaco. The scenography was designed under the supervision of Dr Thomas Fouilleron\, curator of the exhibition and Director of Archives and Library of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco\, allowing visitors to go through a journey which integrates history\, heritage\, fashion\, and arts. \nWhen: May 16–August 28\, 2019 \nSundays–Thursdays: 10:00am–10:00pm \nFridays–Saturdays: 10:00am–00:00am \nWhere: Crystal Lobby\, Galaxy Macau\, Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança\, Galaxy Macau\, Cotai \nYou can also join an exhibition tour\, check the exhibition’s Facebook page for dates and time \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s official page \n\n“Grace Kelly: From Hollywood to Monaco – Artists’ Tributes” is part of the mega international art and cultural event Art Macao. \nHappening from May to October this year\, Art Macao brings together cultural institutions\, hotel and resort operators\, consular missions in Hong Kong and Macau to create an unforgettable atmosphere and cultural vitality to thrill residents and tourists alike.

SUMMARY:Macao Films Panorama 2019
DESCRIPTION:Cinematheque Passion once again presents “Macao Films Panorama”\, the most important local film festival\, showcasing Macau-produced features\, documentaries\, shorts and animations\, from May 17 to 31\, 2019. The Cinematheque aspires to preserve and present local films. After calling local and overseas creatives for the “Comedy Shorts Panorama” shorts competition in April they have selected some of the works to open this year’s “Macao Films Panorama”\, the best of which will be awarded on the same night. \nThe opening gala films features four remarkable works from Macau\, mainland China\, Hong Kong and Taiwan. They were selected by invited film festival curators for the grand open the festival. Local filmmaker Peeko Wong’s G.D.P.: Grandmas’ Dangerous Project follows three elderly ladies’ hilarious mission to ensure their future. Created by Hong Kong director Leung-chuen Yeung\, The Bridge reveals a family’s secrets. Chinese director Er-zhuo Wang traces the present everyday life of an idealistic student from the 1980s in Mother Eden. In Grandma’s Farting Scooter\, Taiwanese filmmaker Chuan Yang Li narrates a delightful adventure of a granny and her granddaughter. \n“Local View Power Revisited” has fourteen films commissioned by the Macao Cultural Centre for the 2017-2018 “Local View Power”. SUMMARY:Opera Hong Kong: Mozart’s Opera — Don Giovanni
DESCRIPTION:Highlighting its 16th anniversary year\, Opera Hong Kong (OHK) presents one of the most performed operas around the world — Don Giovanni to Hong Kong audience with shows on May 17\, 18 and 19\, 2019\, in the Grand Theatre of Hong Kong Cultural Centre. \nIn the 17th century\, the story of the legendary\, fictional libertine\, Don Juan (also Don Giovanni)\, had swept through Spain. His story was extremely intriguing that it was made into numerous versions such as the play Dom Juan ou le Festin de pierre by Molière\, one of the greatest French playwright\, the epic poem version by Lord Byron\, the most influential and significant British poet\, and arguably the most well-known version — Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni\, which we will be able to appreciate in May. \nWith music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte\, Don Giovanni was first performed in 1787. Back then\, Mozart conducted the world premiere of Don Giovanni himself in the National Theatre in Prague\, which was rapturously received by the audience and was reputed to be an extremely hard-to-perform opera that people have never heard the like. The two-act opera portrays Don Giovanni’s life of seducing and sweet talking his way into the beds of countless women\, Leporello\, Giovanni’s servant making record of his master’s encounters\, and how Giovanni ends up in a dead end with hatred\, revenges and death after killing the Commendatore when he fails to seduce the Commendatore’s daughter\, Donna Anna. \nRichard Ollarsaba and Marcelo Guzzo will be starred as the leading role of the infamous Spanish womanizer\, Don Giovanni. Taking the role of Giovanni’s servant\, Leporello\, will be the multi-award-winning bass-baritone – Joseph Barron. World-class conductor\, Mārtiņš Ozoliņš will be conducting the amusing performance. During the performance\, audience will be brought back to the classy\, noble life of the Spanish high society in the 17th century through the exquisite set design by the sophisticated France set designer Eric Chevalier\, striking lighting design by award-winning French light designer Patrick Méeüs and costumes by Opéra Monte-Carlo which are specifically customized for the production. Bringing along the world-class conductor\, the star-studded cast\, together with Hong Kong Simonetta and Opera Hong Kong Chorus\, Opera Hong Kong is serving a spectacular feast for both eyes and ears for the audience. \nWhen: 7:30pm\, Friday–Sunday\, May 17–19\, 2019 \nWhere: Grand Theatre\, Hong Kong Cultural Centre\, Hong Kong \nHow much: HKD $150–$1\,280 \nFor more information and ticketing\, visit their website
