SUMMARY:Hot Flows: PRD Arts Retrospective in Macao
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition’s aim is to examine the Pearl River Delta’s meteoric progress of urbanization and its cultural phenomena developed in a considerable dualism. In this prospect\, the occurring “Pearl River Delta Arts Retrospective” is introduced as a triennial to feature in-depth reviews of the region; by scrutinizing each organization working in this conurbation\, in the varied forms of creative communities\, collectives and institutions. \nWith these concerning entities\, in their previous collaborative projects\, they have since established a strong connection in hope to stimulate the unorthodox ecology and practices in the arts. In 2016\, they presented nine practitioner groups distinctive to the PRD\, looking at how such formations have shaped the cultural landscape in the region and its relevance for today’s socio-political context. \nThree years have passed\, the second edition of the “PRD Arts Retrospective” has proposed “How Flows” as a working title\, and appointed nine artist groups to exhibit their trajectory of integration as a community-oriented model in the Pearl River Delta. The concept draws on colonial preoccupations with the plume of “smoke” as sources of likely contagion in the effect of temperature and moisture\, the burning “smoke” rising from opium destruction at Humen\, and the noxious veil of “smog” enveloping the complexity of our urban-rural divide; such environmental commonality functions as powerful means to communicate messages on localism as an urban phenomena. Artists include Fong Fo\, Xi San Chorus\, Luwei HD\, Jiu Society\, Lo Lai Lai Natalie/Sangwoodgoon\, Come Inside\, Pan Lu & Bo Wang\, among others. \nWhen: August 23–October 10\, 2019 \nWhere: Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site\, 15 R. do Volong\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page \n

SUMMARY:Dance Theatre "Flights"
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever dreamt of flying – of soaring with the birds in the sky? Flights is a magical dance theatre work for children and families that challenges you to wonder\, and to contemplate our eternal dream: to be able to fly. Led by choreographer Enrique Cabrera\, Aracaladanza has won a raft of international prizes over its 21-year history for its fantastical dance stories told through movement\, music\, lighting\, costume and rhythm. \nIt draws on Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings\, paintings and sculptures\, his explorations of anatomy and geometry\, as dancers transform into magical winged creatures\, or embody his elegant perpetual motion machines. SUMMARY:BOK Festival 2019
DESCRIPTION:From 1999 to 2019\, Macau has undergone earth-shaking transformations. As a non-governmental art experimentation platform\, at a time when the long-awaited LRT (Light Rail Transit) service is about to start\, we hope to explore the gap between the “platform” and the “moon” through seeking theater perspectives and imaginations in contemporary art. The gap is between the rational and the romantic\, the ideal and the reality\, society and the self. BOK festival 2019 aims to bring theatre closer to people by showcasing a series of performances\, including Falling from the Land\, Time and Toys\, Streaming Steam\, Orig.ami\, Artificial Loneliness\, Between the Winds\, among others. \nThe city is under development and people are moving\, heading every day to an impossible destination. If we get lost on the way\, that is more than reasonable. There will be a series of explorations about identity. The ‘BOK Movement’ features seven groups of creative types from different fields who have left their native land to ‘roam’ in different cities.  With a string of experimental theatres\, they will take you on a flight between the platform and the moon\, in an attempt to search for definition/re-definition. \nLaunched in 2013\, the BOK Festival is a performing arts platform co-launched by several non-governmental associations. Taking the polysemic character “搏” (Cantonese pronunciation: bok3) as its tenet\, the Bok Festival emphasizes: linking\, striving\, experimenting\, connecting\, trying. It’s co-produced by Own Theatre\, Macau Experimental Theatre\, MyLand Culture \nWhen: August 24–September 8\, 2019 \nWhere: Black Box Theatre\, HiuKok Experimental Lab and Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.2 \nHow much: MOP $100–140 \nFor more information and ticketing\, check here

SUMMARY:The Imagery of the Zen Mind: Works by Wai Man Hun
DESCRIPTION:“Discovery” is the most difficult part of the photography creation process in a natural environment.“Discovery” is to search for the environmental element in the natural environment that complies with the author’s thoughts. What reflects the artistic accomplishment of an author after “discovery” is by observing how he or she makes sacrifices in the angle and compositional choices. The moment the author presses the shutter integrates his knowledge and aesthetics from self-cultivation and the experience of life\, it achieves a photographic “Imagery thinking” realm that can be explained as “painting in a moment\, telling the story through the imagery”. The works can speak. They tell us about the author’s self-cultivation\, cultural accumulation and expressed intention. In terms of artistic expression\, I think image expression is better than character expression. \nThe author of this exhibition\, Wai Man Hun\, has a rich experience of life. During his youth\, he has been pursuing a variety of knowledge\, not only ancient Chinese medicine\, Buddhism\, Taoism\, but he has also been studying hard on philosophy\, cosmology\, natural science\, and physics for many years. In recent years\, the author pursues artistic photography. During the creation process\, he expresses his inner ideas and world view. This exhibition is a rare “painting at an instant” art exhibition which would change the traditional cogitation! Using “imagery thinking”\, the author uses the mind of Zen to communicate and whisper to the natural environment\, therefore\, it can achieve an imaginary realm that expresses the state of “the mind changes as the environment turns and the image generated by the heart.” The images on display show the author’s reductive process from “Zen mind- imagery” to “imagery- Zen mind”. The works transform complicated topics into simple thoughts\, the theme is clear\, the composition is unique and the artistic conception is profound. In the lotus pond in Macao\, Wai Man Hun whispered to the natural environment\, revealing the mystery of nature and produces the works of “The Imagery of the Zen Mind”. \nThis exhibition expresses the feelings of emotion\, nature\, “xie yi” (freehand style)\, for those who feel resonant with the works\, will feel quiet\, comfortable\, and spiritually rich. ‘The Imagery of the Zen Mind – Works by Vai Man Hun’ conveys that everything in the universe is endless and repetitive. \nWhen: August 31–October 18\, 2019 \nWhere: 1844 Macau Photography Art Space\, 17 Rua do Infante\, Edf. SUMMARY:LMA Presents Jeffrey Lewis and the Jrams Live in Macau
DESCRIPTION:September 5 is full of great things at LMA\, with a live concert of a US band\, but also local artist\, Chai kefu@warmWall and DJ’s such as LOBO (4daz-le)\, Gordon (Hi-Tech + TRIBE) and RyomA + RitA. \nCombining folk warmth with garage noise\, like if Woody Guthrie fronted Sonic Youth\, Jeffrey Lewis began recording cassettes of his songs in New York City in the late 90s. Some of these songs found their way to the Rough Trade Records label in London (famous indie label of The Smiths\, The Strokes\, etc); since 2001 Jeffrey has been releasing critically acclaimed albums on Rough Trade and touring the world with his band\, currently Jeffrey Lewis & The Jrams (with Heather Wagner on drums and different people on bass). \nIn addition to headlining tours\, Jeffrey has often shared gigs with the likes of Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks\, Roky Erickson\, The Mountain Goats\, The Fall\, Daniel Johnston\, Devo\, Adam Green\, Pulp and other luminaries. In between his hypnotically moving folk narratives and his fuzzed-up indie-punk songs\, Jeffrey also harnesses his comic book interests to create and perform “low budget videos\,” colorfully illustrated visual songs on historical topics (like “The History of Communism”)\, or strange flights of fancy (like “The Creeping Brain”). Jeffrey has self-published eleven issues of his comic book series Fuff\, and Jeffrey’s writing\, illustrations\, comic books and music have been featured by The Guardian\, The History Channel and The New York Times (among other places). \nWhen: 9:00pm\, September 5\, 2019 \nWhere: Live Music Association\, 11B San Mei Industrial Building\, 50 Avenida do Coronel Mesquita\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $120 at the door \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page
