SUMMARY:LMA Presents Jeffrey Lewis and the Jrams Live in Macau
DESCRIPTION:September 5 is full of great things at LMA\, with a live concert of a US band\, but also local artist\, Chai kefu@warmWall and DJ’s such as LOBO (4daz-le)\, Gordon (Hi-Tech + TRIBE) and RyomA + RitA. \nCombining folk warmth with garage noise\, like if Woody Guthrie fronted Sonic Youth\, Jeffrey Lewis began recording cassettes of his songs in New York City in the late 90s. Some of these songs found their way to the Rough Trade Records label in London (famous indie label of The Smiths\, The Strokes\, etc); since 2001 Jeffrey has been releasing critically acclaimed albums on Rough Trade and touring the world with his band\, currently Jeffrey Lewis & The Jrams (with Heather Wagner on drums and different people on bass). \nIn addition to headlining tours\, Jeffrey has often shared gigs with the likes of Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks\, Roky Erickson\, The Mountain Goats\, The Fall\, Daniel Johnston\, Devo\, Adam Green\, Pulp and other luminaries. In between his hypnotically moving folk narratives and his fuzzed-up indie-punk songs\, Jeffrey also harnesses his comic book interests to create and perform “low budget videos\,” colorfully illustrated visual songs on historical topics (like “The History of Communism”)\, or strange flights of fancy (like “The Creeping Brain”). Yang Liping joins forces with Academy award-winning set and costume designer Tim Yip\, conjuring up visual magic on stage. With a cast of performers from backgrounds and traditions as diverse as Peking Opera\, hip-hop and ballet\, this dance theatre piece is an unforgettable\, breathtaking experience. \nYang Liping (1958) is a famous dancer and choreographer who is known across China for her creativity and her performance of the Dai peacock dance. Of Bai ethnicity\, she grew up in a village in Yunnan province. She is now the director\, choreographer and main dancer of Dynamic Yunnan\, a performance art show nationally acclaimed in China\, having toured Europe and the USA in 2005. She also did a research project involving finding gifted people in remote Chinese villages and bringing them to stages. The annual Macao International Fireworks Display Contest usually takes place on several Saturdays every September\, on Mid-Autumn Festival and on China’s National Day–October 1. By 1995 the annual event had developed into a ten-team event\, with two different teams demonstrating their expertise each night\, a successful format that continues to this day. The Macao International Fireworks Display Contest has grown over the years into an internationally acclaimed event and is acknowledged as one of the best of its kind. Over the years\, more than 100 outstanding teams from China\, Japan\, Korea\, Thailand\, Malaysia\, the Philippines\, Australia\, Chinese Taiwan\, the United Kingdom\, France\, Switzerland\, Italy\, Spain\, Portugal\, Germany\, Austria\, Poland\, Croatia\, Finland\, the United States\, Canada and South Africa have participated in this pyrotechnic wizardry. \nDuring the period of this popular event\, the Macao Government Tourism Office hosts a much-anticipated photo contest\, student drawing contest\, and trophy design contest which attracts many talented participants\, adding even more color to the festivities. DESCRIPTION:One Central Macau\, Wynn Macau and Macao International Brand Enterprise Commercial Association\, in collaboration with Marreiros Architectural Atelier Limited and Chiii Design are having\, until October 15\, a lantern festival so everyone has the opportunity to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival along the Waterfront Promenades of One Central Macau and Wynn Macau as well as the Anim’Arte Nam Van. Visitors and locals alike will also have the opportunity to watch as the evening skies over Macau light up with spectacular displays of color during the 30th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest. \nEntering its fourth year\, coinciding with the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and 20th Anniversary of Macao Special Administrative Region returning to the motherland\, the collaboration is led by Macau architect and renowned artist Carlos Marreiros themed as “70 + 20 Commemoration – All in the Family”. The urban art installations comprising 10 monumental and illuminative lantern sculptures between 2.5 and 12 meters tall located at the Waterfront Promenade of One Central Macau facing Nam Van Lake. All the lantern sculptures are designed by Marreiros and six of them are personally decorated by him including the two major Lunar Rabbit Lanterns themed “70 + 20 Commemoration”\, the three newly added auspicious pigs\, “Swimming Pigs”\, “Piggy Piggy Bank” and “Loving Mother”\, turning the promenade into a joyful and colorful place to enjoy a stroll with your loved ones. \nMeanwhile\, four lantern sculptures are commissioned decorative works in collaboration with prominent and promising artists. They are “Ethereality Adorn Macau” by Macao painter Lai Ieng\, “Ears of Flower” by Chinese artist Zuo Zheng Yao\, “Lantern” by Portuguese artist Raquel Gralheiro and “How Far Can You Go?” by Italian artist Guido Scarabottolo\, gracing the dazzling and fun-filled festive season with bright colors and delicate contour. \nCarlos Marreiros also partnered with talented local artists to design magnificent “Wynn Butterfly Story” art installations all along the Wynn Macau waterfront for a truly meaningful and symbolic Mid-Autumn. Together\, the artists created “Hand in Hand”\, a vibrant installation featuring thousands of glistening lights and over 100 large lanterns that light up the promenade and symbolize families moving forward\, hand in hand\, to build a new era of prosperity. Two large\, LED light installations feature beautiful\, fluttering butterflies as they dance above a golden lotus. The LEDs also display “70” and “20” light patterns which symbolize the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th Anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland\, while also representing Wynn’s celebration of the reunification. Building on the success of the first iteration of the Stories of the Sea menu\, the team of culinary artisans at The Manor\, led by Chef David King\, The Manor’s director of culinary\, have refined the menu even further to showcase a new range of the finest ingredients from the sea\, including Sicilian red prawns and Bluefin tuna from Spain. \nThe signature dish of the Stories of the Sea – The Second Chapter menu is the Balfegó Bluefin tuna from Spain with its distinctive full flavor and firm texture. Served lightly marinated with balsamic vinegar\, and kale\, the tuna is then finished off with Sichuan pepper oil to draw out its inherent richness. Among the other dishes that form part of the six-course dining experience is the Hokkaido sea urchin with ocean trout roe\, Sicilian red prawn with green apple purée\, sunflower honey and avocado oil\, Spanish octopus served char siu-style. The much-adored ‘Glacier 51’ toothfish is now offered with a delicate parmesan risoni and chamomile foam. \nThe journey is capped off with an element of theater for dessert with a multi-layered Valrhona chocolate sphere that is ignited with Japanese whiskey at the table. DESCRIPTION:Cinematheque‧Passion brings the exciting World Animation Festival from September 21 to October 6. Closing film The Tower is a moving illustration of the life of Palestinian refugees. Mixing clay motion and 2D techniques and based on interviews with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon\, the closing film The Tower portrays a bittersweet tale of four generations of refugees in exile\, longing to return to their true homeland. \n“Family Fun” presents five fun-packed animations for all to enjoy! Tito and the Birds is a journey into a fantasy world created by mixing oil-painting brushstrokes with digital tools to paint an exhilarating story of a young boy’s quest to save the planet from fear. Adapted from popular fiction\, The Great Detective Sherlock Holmes – The Greatest Jail-Breaker invites all the family to a gripping detective story. Directors attend the screening and share anecdotes of its production. The Oddsockeaters brings us sock characters who tell a delightful tale after seven years of production. \nMovie still from Dilili in Paris \nJacob\, Mimmi and the Talking Dogs follows a pack of talking dogs and two brave kids in their adventure to save their town from destruction. Based on the book series by Ulf Nilsson and Gitte Spee\, the delightful Gordon & Paddy features the voice of famous Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård. “Japanese Animation” brings together top Japanese animators’ works Yuasa Masaaki’s Ride Your Wave is a real eye-opener. This second piece of his ocean series is refreshing and distinctive. Directed by Kitarō Kōsaka\, the supervising animation director of Spirited Away and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea\, Okko’s Inn follows young girl Okko\, who moves into her grandmother’s traditional hot spring inn and discovers her ability to communicate with spirits. Adapted from “Night is Short\, Walk on Girl”\, author Tomihiko Morimi’s best-selling novel\, and voiced by some of Japanese cinema’s biggest names\, Penguin Highway takes you on a fantastical summer adventure like no other! \n“World Horizon” ignites and delights with four compelling stories Ruben Brandt\, Collector invites the audience to explore reality and dreams through thirteen famous paintings. It is full of surprises. Riveting Funan won the Cristal Award at Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2018. This remarkable work follows a young woman whose life is suddenly upturned by the arrival of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. Produced in France and Japan\, the gripping Mutafukaz reveals the mysterious side of the Dark Meat City. SUMMARY:"Tak Chun Art Garden" – Cai Guojie's Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The “Half-Field Project” is an imaginative art project by artist Cai Guojie. Starting from the “Linear Store” implemented in Taipei in 2004\, Cai Guojie borrowed the land development and sales model to sell the boundary line between the land sections in the world. It is a borderline that is a mixture between various “spaces of power” and “spaces of consumption”. In the game of selling the borderline\, the “Half-Field Project” suggests a solemn concept: the space of power and the jurisdictional boundary. Different from his previous “Half-Field Project”\, the artist’s current solo exhibition “Tak Chun Art Garden” in the Macau Art For All Society records and exhibits the continuous re-circulation process after the sale of “a land line” in front of the Tak Chun Macau Art Garden. “Tak Chun Art Garden” is a brand new attempt in the entire “Half-Field Project”. \nThe artist gives up the production control of the work and makes the work flow and spread in nature. As long as humans recognize the exchange of such forms\, this project will continue to circulate over time\, self-generating\, never ending\, and is “nomadic” in its nature: the flow of decentralization (de-centering) process and the breeding of aesthetic characteristics. This flowing line in “Tak Chun Art Garden” has become the artist’s determination to resist the structure of the old rule of space\, “Deterritorialising” in nomadism\, flowing and spreading. This is a new and profound aesthetic attempt. \nCai was born in Hsinchu\, Taiwan. In 2010\, he graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Taiwan University of the Arts with a master’s degree. In 2018\, he studied at the School of Intermedia Arts\, China Academy of Art\, a doctoral student. Now he lives and works in Macau and Hangzhou. He believes that art is to create a description of differences\, and artists cannot give up the power of art in the name of art. The “Half-Field Plan” is a deed to mark the inter-space space and explores the concept of “power field” in art. With the series of contents of the “Half-Field Plan” the choice is power-giving; mutual understanding is the game of power. Cai Guojie’s focus is on the transfer of rights from “concepts” to “entities” and the ownership of the gaps between boundaries. \nAt this point\, the “bound power” and the “power of desire” of the artificial boundary\, these powers can help to oppose the “infinity” of the opposite – that is\, the freedom we desire. João’s Brazilian jazz incorporates all the styles above by mixing the vibrant Brazilian rhythms\, grooves\, and styles with jazz concepts of form and improvisation making this performance a unique act in Macau. The heat makes the tofu fully absorb the flavor of chicken broth and dried shrimp which guests would appreciate. \n \nAnother specialty is a succulent combination of the sweet and tender heart of Chinese cabbage then braised in a supreme broth with fresh chestnut for an optimal combination of tenderness and sweetness. Using a secret ground bean sauce from a century-old store “Liu Bi Ju”\, Chef Sun takes 30% of fatty pork and 70% of lean pork to create a rich and flavorsome meat sauce that is simmered with mushrooms for two hours.
