SUMMARY:“Stay\, Dine and See Macao” Tours
DESCRIPTION:The “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” project’s new phase starts in April\, 2021 and its highlights features helicopter rides across the city’s skies\, as well as yacht experiences as well. Due to the rising number of applications for helicopter trips\, the government has created a system of drawing\, where applicants are chosen through a lucky draw. The project offers a wide range of different city tours for both residents and non-residents to enjoy. Interested residents can sign up at travel agencies under the umbrella of the project which not only covers a range of local tours but also introduces experiences at local hotels. \nEvery permanent and non-permanent resident of the Macao Special Administrative Region is entitled to a one-time subsidy for each of both categories–local tour and hotel staycation. The project is tailored to support travel industry professionals by creating job opportunities as a form of relief\, while joining industry operators to invest resources in launching remarkable local tour itineraries\, spurring new rises in domestic demand and spending in local communities. \nTours are available on weekends and public holidays from April throughout December with an increase of the number of tours during the summer month of July and August. An array of local profound-themed tour itineraries will be launched at the first stage. The helicopter ride experience–which gained wide popularity last year–is available once again. New highlights such as “tourism + culture”\, “tourism + sports” and “tourism + ecology” are incorporated into different tour itineraries. \nThe six tour itineraries feature elements as follows: exploring architectures at Nossa Senhora Village of Ká Hó\, science learning at Cotai Ecological Zone\, Macao VR/Celebrity Wax Museum\, Macao Grand Prix Museum and Handover Gifts Museum of Macao\, youth music and cultural appreciation experience\, helicopter ride experience and yacht check-in tour. Every Macau resident is entitled to a maximum of 280-patacas subsidy for local tour participation\, as well as a 100-patacas dining card (except for the helicopter ride experience and the yacht check-in tour). After subsidized\, the tour fee ranges between MOP $28 and MOP $518 patacas for the six tour itineraries\, covering sightseeing\, tour guide\, and insurance fees. The local tours will be conducted in Cantonese\, Portuguese and English according to the residents’ needs. \nSince the start of the pandemic\, “staycation” has emerged as a prevailing new trend. For Macau residents to enjoy the joy of short vacations while it is not possible yet to travel abroad\, the project “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” newly incorporates the experience of local hotels from Monday to Sunday as well as on public holidays. Many hotels have joined this project to provide a variety of staycation experiences for patrons. Some hotels also offer staycation packages that include other tourism products\, while others feature partnerships with products of community businesses. \nInterested residents can opt for their favorite local tour itineraries or local hotels from the “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” project at the sales outlets of accredited travel agencies with their valid Macao SAR IDs\, confirm their preferred tour date and time or hotel check-in date and complete the sign-up formalities by payment. \nThe project includes the participation of more than 160 travel agencies\, over 800 travel industry professionals\, more than 70 hotels and guest houses\, over 500 tour coaches (including barrier-free tour coaches)\, over 500 tour coach drivers and over 500 local tour guides. MGTO expressed that the project aims to support local travel agencies\, the hotel and catering industries\, to sustain the livelihood of personnel of travel agencies\, tour guides\, coach drivers and employees of related sectors while providing an initiative for residents to enjoy local dining\, sightseeing and hotel staycation economically. The project is set to spur rises in domestic demand and spending in communities\, leading to further recovery of tourism and related industries. \nWhen: Local tours – April 25–June\, 2021 and September to December\, 2021 (Weekends and public holidays)\, July and August\, 2021 (daily) \nStaycation promotions – April 23–December 31\, 2021 \nWhere: Local tours – Departing from the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal\, Porto Exterior\, Macau \nStaycations – Check-in at the selected hotel \nHow much: For each of the six city tours – Subsidy up to MOP $280 per resident (tours cost between MOP $28 and $518 per resident) \nStaycation promotions – Subsidy up to MOP $200 per resident \nFor more information\, bookings and payments\, call +853 8396 3052\, send an email to info@lovemacau.org\, or click here. SUMMARY:31st Macao Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Macao Arts Festival (MAF) dramatically lights up the city every early summer\, bringing together theater\, dance\, music\, circus\, multimedia and visual arts in an artistic panorama of events. A mix of local\, regional and international performers from various regions and countries around the world present a diversity of programs. This year’s MAF will focus on productions from Mainland China and Macau\, presenting nearly 100 events including outreach activities in various districts\, establishing a display and exchange platform\, expanding the artistic vision and enhancing the aesthetic perception of its audience. \nThe grand opening White Snake by Lin Zhaohua Theatre Studio from Beijing\, redesigns the characters of the classic folktale The Legend of the White Snake in an artistic and creative way\, combing theatre\, music\, dance and multimedia art. The closing performance Taking Leave is a production adapted from American contemporary playwright Nagle Jackson’s namesake play by the National Theatre of China. In this play\, the National First Class Director Wang Xiaoying will lead a cast of veteran actors to interpret the story of an acclaimed actor who used to play the role of King Lear\, who was approaching the end of his life\, wandering between reality and imagination\, allowing the audience to witness the fragility and eternity of life. \nThe Jin Xing Dance Theatre from Shanghai\, one of the top modern dance companies in China\, acclaimed by critics as “an important unit in the history of Chinese dance”\, presents two works\, namely Wild Flower and Trinity. In Wild Flower\, the dancers interpret a wild flower’s tenacious existence through marathon-esque non-stop dancing and movement\, liberating themselves from the bonds of body and mind. The show Trinity\, a performance of works by three renowned choreographers\, namely Jin Xing\, Emanuel Gat and Arthur Kuggeleyn\, explores women’s independent existence and physiological space within each’s distinctive movements\, and illustrates the courage and strength among people through dancers’ bodies\, inspiring artistic appeal and avant-garde ideas. \nThe Coloane game \nHuangmei Opera is a national intangible cultural heritage. The Anhui Huangmei Opera Theatre presents a new production of the classic play Dream of the Red Chamber. The play was created in the 1990s with Yu Qiuyu and Chen Xiting as the core creative team\, starring Ma Lan\, among other artists\, who innovated the classics together from a new perspective. The play instantly gained much reputation\, and thus became a reserved play in the theatre. On the MAF stage\, the play will be performed by the new generation of Huangmei opera actors\, passing on tradition and innovation. \nThe Macao Arts Festival establishes a display and exchange platform that has witnessed the professional development of local art groups\, which illustrates Macau’s cultural diversity from different perspectives. The dance theatre Drunken Dragon Dance by Four Dimension Spatial innovates the festive tradition with contemporary dance elements; the documentary theatre See You through Memories by Soda-City Experimental Workshop Arts Association\, explores the past and present landscapes of Patane\, reviewing the transformation of the city; Dance Duo recounts the transformation of the local dancer Kam Hiu Lam in a decade\, presenting her dance dialogue with choreographer Chou Shu-Yi and her joint creation with Wang Yuanqing; The Never-ending Task of Lust for Failure by Comuna de Pedra Arts and Cultural Association creates a worldview map beyond languages\, labels and disabilities of the special-needs; Property Guide at Lou Kau Mansion by Jay Lei and Shuk Man Lee and A Short Time Escape by Lei Sam I\, which were premiered at the Macao City Fringe Festival and were recommended by the artistic advisors of the Macao City Fringe Festival\, will be staged at the Macao Arts Festival again. \nMAF also encourages parents and children to enjoy artistic experiences. SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Program – Post-truth: Fool Others As Well As Oneself
DESCRIPTION:“Post-truth: Fool Others As Well As Oneself” is an experiment of media expansion undertaken by artist Wang Yan Xin from Lanzhou\, who utilizes performance art as the major medium that is complemented by videography\, installations\, photography\, painting\, and other means. This experiment of cross-media artistic creation initiates the discussions for oneself starting from an artist-in-residence project in Macau and explores the possibilities of artistic creation through a game-based approach. \nIncorporating Macau as space and the artist-in-residence project\, Wang Yan Xin creates this series based on self-observation and awareness of the weakness\, vulnerability\, and pretense of oneself. There are questions over what makes one look tough in appearance\, what makes one feel fear\, and what makes one feel powerless\, leading to critical thinking of oneself. Friedrich Nietzsche says\, “There are no facts\, only interpretations.” Different events only represent different interpretations. As “emotions are more influential than facts”\, lies can be interpreted as “another point of view” or “an opinion” because “everything is relative” and “everyone has their own truth”. Thus\, this project is also an experiment of the reconstruction of “truth” by oneself. \nWhen: May 1–30\, 2021 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:French GourMay ‘Surrealism’ Menu at The Parisian Macao's Brasserie
DESCRIPTION:The Parisian Macao’s signature restaurant Brasserie presents a celebratory four-course set menu from May 1 to 31\, 2021 as part of French GourMay 2021\, an annual French food and wine festival that takes place in Hong Kong and Macau throughout the month. The theme of this year’s festival is a ‘food art journey with a taste of surrealism’. In addition to the usual authentic French flavors on offer at Brasserie\, diners can expect highly aesthetic plate presentation and a colorful feast for the senses. \nGuests start the meal with an appetizer of marinated yellowfin tuna and compressed watermelon and tomato water with beetroot coulis which presents an explosion of vivid red\, like paint across a palette. The second course combines prime beef tartare with shoestring potatoes\, topped with quail egg and wheatgrass\, to artfully convey a rustic farm scene. The main courses of roasted Barbary duck breast with fig carpaccio\, poached fig\, parsnip puree\, and port wine jus evokes a classic French country impressionist painting\, while prawns with smoked arctic char\, scallop\, and salmon incorporate sauerkraut\, squid ink\, and white butter sauce to create a surreal black and white checkerboard. Finally\, a dessert comprising yogurt mousse\, apricot jelly\, and peach sherbet suggests an intriguing still life. \nWhen: May 1–31\, 2021 \nWhere: Dinner\, Brasserie\, The Parisian Macao\, \nHow much: MOP $528 per person\, additional MOP $288 for pairing with French wines \nFor more information and reservations\, +853 8111 9200 or send an email to brasserie.reservation@sands.com.mo.
