SUMMARY:Alter Ego Fifth Exhibition: Globalistation
DESCRIPTION:The fifth exhibition by Guilherme Gafi (Brazil) and Wasted Rita (Portugal) broadens the spectrum of analysis\, looking into the concept of interaction between people and larger entities and the interchanges that occur in an increasingly connected world. From the concept of interaction between people\, we move on to larger entities. This step in the cycle seeks to explore how the process of globalisation is another type of interaction on a much larger scale: the exchange between countries in an increasingly connected world. \nWhen: 10:00am—7:00pm\, July 8—September 9 (closed on Mondays) \nWhere: Taipa Houses Museum\, Avenida da Praia\, Carmo Zone\, Taipa\, Macau \nFor more information please call +853 8988 4000 or +853 2882 7527 or visit www.icm.gov.mo/en/housesmuseum

SUMMARY:In Love with Macao – Calligraphy and Paintings of Macao
DESCRIPTION:Being one of the earliest points for China’s exchanges with the West\, Macau has always been a place where Chinese and Western cultures have clashed and blended\, with Western trends and techniques influencing several art forms. However\, the truly traditional arts of Chinese calligraphy\, painting and seal carving have maintained their strong vitality all along – and this exhibition will put them in focus. The show will feature a total of 90 artworks by artists who lived in the city from the 1930s to the 21st century or somehow had ties with Macau. They include Shang Yanliu\, Zheng Jin\, Gao Jianfu\, Li Xiangen\, and Lin Jin\, among others. \nDue to the special geopolitics of Macau\, many artists moved in to live or sojourned here to escape war and turmoil\, and a few of them would go on to leave a distinct influence on modern Chinese calligraphy and painting. This is why calligraphy and painting art in Macau developed by leaps and bounds. This exhibition aims to raise the public’s awareness of native culture\, and provide an understanding of the role and contributions of Macau in the wider context of Chinese painting and calligraphy. \nWhen: 10:00am—7:00pm\, Friday—Sunday (closed on Mondays)\, July 14—August 4 \nWhere: Macao Museum of Art\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, Nape\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more details\, contact +853 8791 9814\, or visit their website\, or email them

SUMMARY:Mgm Cotai Presents Innovative Works of Alter Ego Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Alter Ego is the 1st Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries\, and as the only integrated resort operator in Macau to participate in the festival\, MGM is a key partner of the event. To show their commitment MGM Cotai is running an illusionary floor art piece by Portuguese artist Add Fuel\, and a site-specific digital installation by Pedro Ferreira and Rita João. \nAlter Ego is one of the highlights of the inaugural Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. The Arts Exhibition displays representative artworks from Mainland China\, Macau\, Hong Kong\, Portugal\, Angola\, Brazil and many other Portuguese-speaking countries\, presenting the current tendencies of contemporary art in China and the Portuguese-speaking countries. The exhibition Alter Ego is an exploration of the seminal idea exercised through the expression of contemporary art\, and delves deeply into the intricacies of the construction of the self in order to expose the true nature of its relationship with the other\, as well as with the outside world in general. \nDuring the exhibition\, Stratum 03 by Portuguese artist Add Fuel and Digital Best Guess by Pedrita Studio (Pedro Ferreira and Rita João) will be shown at MGM Cotai’s Spectacle\, immersing visitors in an imaginative world of art. Portuguese visual artist and illustrator Add Fuel re-interprets the language of traditional tile design and creates the Stratum 03 floor art piece\, leading visitors to question the reality of what is present in their immediate physical surroundings through the use of color gradient. Meanwhile\, the Digital Best Guess by the Pedrita Studio is shown on the world’s largest area of permanent indoor LED screens at the Spectacle. In this digital installation\, the portraits are produced with trims of reclaimed industrial Portuguese tiles from the 60’s to the 90’s\, and will be alternated with a patchwork of tiles that today are extremely rare\, but that are easily recognizable as part of many places familiar to Portuguese people. \nWhen: August 1–September 24 \nWhere: Avenida Da Nave Desportiva\, Cotai \nHow much: Free \nFor more information please call +853 8802 8888 or visit their website

SUMMARY:After Hours - Late Night Fantastic Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:This unique festival will bring eight special films to Macau which have probably never been seen on the big screen in the city. To make things more interesting\, they will be screened at midnight every Friday and Saturday between August 31 and September 22. Each of the eight films is from a different part of the world and each is a cult success in its own right\, with some being successful\, some being comedic and some being thoughtful. \nThe opening movie is one of most talked about the horror films of the year\, Hereditary. For those who like a bit of blood and gore\, they should check out French director Julia Ducournau’s\, Raw. The Wild Boys\, meanwhile\, is a stylish\, unusual take on cross-dressing\, being a survival story as well. There is also a shock comedy\, Female Trouble\, from John Waters. Miami Connection is an action-cult film directed by taekwondo master Y. K. Kim. SUMMARY:Noritake x Quarter Square
DESCRIPTION:Quarter Square is bringing Noritake to Macau! For illustration enthusiasts\, Noritake is no stranger and this will be their first exhibition and product showcase in Macau. The Japanese illustrator Noritake creates charming mostly monochromatic work that have taken Asia by storm. They’ve been featured on clothing\, in advertising\, and various products\, many of which will be on display and for sale during this exhibition\, which is part a series of shows which have toured through Japan\, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The works have been extensively featured across all mediums in Japanese magazines\, Monocle\, New Balance\, and on various lifestyle products (from medicine packaging to book covers). Noritake’s monochrome\, simple and hard-line works are precise and straight-forward\, resembling children’s drawings. \nIt is this childlike quality in his works that speak of a yearning and a sort of wisdom for simplicity in life. Less is more. This exhibition and product showcase in Macau will feature simple and happy moments of everyday life beautifully boiled down to witty monochrome drawings. \nThe original artworks by Noritake from the “SBN” series will be displayed and for purchase at Quarter Square\, along with original products from the line of Some Products and from his previous collaborations with Japanese fashion brand Zucca and stationery shop Think of Things. SBN is an acronym of Super Binding Notebook\, a notebook designed by Noritake himself as a result of his years of sketching and note-taking. \nThe SBN provides space for keeping memorabilia and room for adding extra pages. Inspired by his SBN\,\, Noritake also makes a series of illustrations that explore the possibilities of using his SBN. The original artworks will be shown at Quarter Square and the SBNs sold. Merchandise from the Some Products line is common objects that are honest and useful. Ranging from lens cloth\, pens to tote bags\, they are cute items that add a spark of wittiness in daily life. \n \nNoritake observes and draws common people and common objects that are often overlooked. Presented in simple monochrome lines\, the purest emotions and meaning (or the lack of) of living provokes viewers. Noritake’s works have been in Japan since 2008. His simple and bold brushstrokes and the largely “empty” works gain Noritake his fame in the art world. Because of the purity in his works\, he is able to connect to people from only from his homeland\, Japan\, but also with people globally. He has worked extensively with international brands and magazines such as New Balance and Monocle. \nOther than artworks\, he also designs everyday products that carry the same signature style present in his 2D works. His aesthetics and philosophy of everyday wisdom come around when the object depicted becomes useful in a person’s life\, may it be a phone case\, a graphic tee\, and some masking tape. \nWhen: September 28–October 28\, 2018 \nWhere: Quarter Square\, 89 Largo Maia de Magalhães\, Taipa Village \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information on the event\, visit the Facebook page\, call +853 6290 5138\, +853 2857 6914 or email them
