SUMMARY:“Art-City-People” Exhibition Series: Above the Descending
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition–with paintings by local artist\, Wong Weng Cheong–explores the float space\, interpreted through 3D grating technology and flow-force of balance installations. With sounds of the sea echoing through the exhibition space\, the installations in the contradictions of materials\, gravity\, space\, and balance create a shaky and floating sensory effect. \nThe paintings\, through using grating technology that highlights visual tension and the sense of space\, convey the shapes of water. Paintings deviating from the static position create an extending tension\, producing internal dynamics between art and nature\, hence cohesion in the 2D interior of the exhibition venue. The showcase is curated by local artist Feiin Leong. \nWhen: December 17\, 2020–February 6\, 2021 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Bar Stories Chapter 48 – Bar das Glas
DESCRIPTION:Bar Stories are back with its Chapter 48! Shaken or stirred\, gather the bunch and spend exclusive moments on this one-night-only event with guest bartender Matthew\, from Bar das Glas. \nBased in Ora Coffee\, Bar das Glas awakens after sunset on Fridays and Saturdays\, with Matthew behind the bar. In other words\, it’s a cafe by day and bar by night. This night’s menu includes cocktails like Breakfast Negroni\, Lunch: Tonic Yaki\, the Afternoon Tea\, and the Dessertarian cocktail. \nThe early souls can go for the negroni\, to which they’ve added iced drip coffee to enhance the flavor in this cocktail to make sure you get your daily dose of caffeine\, which is the perfect way to start the day. As for the Yaki–which stands for barbecue in Japanese–Japanese cooking seasonings and seaweed are used to tickle your tastebuds with the taste of Japan. In the Afternoon Tea\, rooibos tea is used to bring out the sensation of astringency\, which is then finished off with a touch of refreshing citrus to wipe away your afternoon drowsiness. \nWhen: 8:30pm–11:30pm\, Wednesday\, January 27\, 2021 \nWhere: Vida Rica Bar\, Mandarin Oriental\, Macau\, 945 Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen\, NAPE\, Macau \nFor more information and reservations\, call Vida Rica Bar at +853 8805 8928 or send an email to momac-vidaricabar@mohg.com

SUMMARY:Constellations: A Chinese New Wave Performance
DESCRIPTION:The Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) presents Constellations\, an avant-garde romantic drama staged at CCM’s small auditorium next January 29 and 30 in Mandarin\, with English subtitles. Brought by new wave group Théâtre du Rêve Expérimental\, a company based in Beijing\, the piece is conceived by internationally acclaimed maverick director Wang Chong\, based in the awarding-winning work written by British playwright Nick Payne. \nOriginally premiered in London\, back in 2012\, Constellations conquered the Best Play of the Year award. Now\, a new vision of Payne’s tragic comedy merges filmic language with a theatrical frame to illustrate the vastness of the universe and the dimension of human solitude. To better grasp themes like time and space\, Wang Chong uses in his production over a dozen cameras building up a dual stage and conveying the idea of parallel universes. The story revolves around the relationship between a cosmologist\, a bee-keeper and the multiplicity of choices they make in multiple dimensions\, with different outcomes. \nPremiered in many stages around the world\, from the West End to Broadway\, the U.S. version starred Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal. In Macau\, the Cultural Centre hosts a post-performance talk with Wang Chong\, right after each show\, where the director will share with the audience insights on his theatrical concepts. \nWhen: Tuesday and Wednesday\, 7:45pm\, January 29 and 30\, 2020 \nWhere: Small auditorium\, Macao Cultural Centre\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai s/n\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $180 per person \nFor more information\, check here

SUMMARY:“Xian Drum Music” – Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage Music
DESCRIPTION:An expert in Xian drum music will be the artistic director of the workshop and will introduce the characteristics of Xian drum music to the audience in a simple and profound way\, and explain the characteristics of each piece of music played\, allowing the audience to better feel the local cultures. At the end of each explanation\, the music starts slowly\, and you can feel the collision of thoughts in the music. \nXian drum music is one of the most important musical varieties in traditional Chinese music and is one type of traditional Chinese “ind and percussion music”. This music genre is popular in the urban and rural areas of Xian\, Shaanxi Province\, and along the foothills of the Zhongnan Mountains. Xian drum music originated from the Tang Dynasty\, the Song Dynasty\, the Yuan Dynasty\, and the Ming Dynasty\, and flourished in the Qing Dynasty. There is no accurate record of its production era\, but its sheet music\, musical instruments\, playing forms\, and song titles all have deep roots in ancient Chinese music\, especially the music of the Tang and Song dynasties\, therefore\, Xian Drum Music is known as the “living fossil” of ancient Chinese music. \nWhen: 2:30pm (workshop)\, 4:00pm (concert)\, Saturday\, January 30\, 2021 \nWhere: Broadway Theatre\, Broadway Macau\, Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus\, Cotai \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information and registration for the workshop\, click here

SUMMARY:Pátio Memories – Exhibition of Life in Pátios and Becos in the Bygone Days
DESCRIPTION:The Cultural Affairs Bureau presents the exhibition “Pátio Memories – Exhibition of Life in Pátios and Becos in the Bygone Days” at Pátio da Eterna Felicidade\, allowing the public to experience the life of Macau people in the bygone days and deepen their understanding of the architectural and spatial characteristics of the buildings. With the restoration work on the exterior façade of the buildings at 8 and 10\, Pátio da Eterna Felicidade completed and the outdoor space at 14\, Pátio da Eterna Felicidade opened\, visitors can appreciate the architectural appearance of Pátio da Eterna Felicidade. \nCurrently\, there are nearly 200 streets named “pátio” or “beco” in Macau. Among them\, the area of Pátio da Eterna Felicidade near the Ruins of St. Paul’s College and Freguesia de Santo António is relatively large and has been better preserved. In collaboration with local illustrator Un Chi Wai\, the exhibition features a variety of scenes and characters inspired by life in these places\, making it a lively and interesting experience for the public. \nIn the future\, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will make use of the open space near Pátio da Eterna Felicidade to organise thematic activities related to the culture of pátios and becos from time to time\, and will continue to carry out reinforcement and restoration works\, striving to complete the revitalisation plan for the area as soon as possible and develop it into a future cultural and leisure area. \nWhen: From February 7\, 2021 \nWhere: Pátio da Eterna Felicidade\, Rua da Felicidade\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 8988 4000 or check here

SUMMARY:"From In" Performance
DESCRIPTION:“From In” is a Chinese contemporary dance piece brought by the Xie Xin Dance Theatre to be staged in two shows. Described as a frenzied display of contrasts\, “From In” is an enigmatic and fluid work interpreted by nine dancers whose figures appear and disappear\, like fading images in a film. Xie Xin’s work explores a multiplicity of moments where the bodies are taken to the extreme\, flowing in their elasticity to produce an aesthetics of priming elegance. \nSince its 2016 debut in Shanghai\, the show toured numerous cities in China from Beijing and Hong Kong to Hangzhou\, and was invited to various European dance festivals\, like the Stuttgart Colours and the Kuopio Dance where it has been acclaimed by audience and critics alike. \nDubbed as a driving force in the developing Chinese contemporary dance scene\, Xie Xin founded her ground-breaking company in 2014. The creator’s collaborations with acclaimed choreographers like Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui\, amongst many other international names\, have inspired Xie Xin’s creative drive. In China\, her recent appearance at “Dance Smash”\, a TV reality show\, transformed the dancer into a national sensation. \nThis premiere tour to Macau is enriched with a workshop hosted by the very own Xie Xin\, sharing some of her views and providing participants with a chance to explore their bodies\, inspired by the creator’s choreographic moves. Besides these sessions\, after the second performance\, Xie Xin will also share with the audience some insights on her dance piece. \n“From In” hits the staged on February 2021 at the Macao Cultural Centre. Tickets will be available from 13 December (Sunday) at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets\, subject to various discounts. \nWhen: Wednesday and Thursday\, 7:45pm\, February 24 and 25\, 2021 \nWhere: Small Auditorium\, Macao Cultural Centre\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai s/n\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $180 per person \nFor more information\, click here\, and for ticketing\, here
