SUMMARY:Yamazato – Akita Prefecture Culinary Delight
DESCRIPTION:Yamazato teams up with Kariho Sake Brewery (Akita Seishu Co.\, Ltd.) to host “Culinary Delights” from April 5 to May 5. Kariho Sake Brewery was established in 1850 and located in Akita’s rice basket. The sake names by Kariho was based on the Waka (traditional Japanese poetry) which was written by the Tenchi Emperor. The Waka shows respect for the farmers who work hard to cultivate the rice fields and it is very meaningful for sake producers. Akita depends heavily on agriculture\, with the climate being ideal for growing rice of exceptional taste. “Akita Komachi” and “Yume Obako” are two strains of rice that are grown exclusively in the prefecture and delivered throughout Japan. DESCRIPTION:Local artist Lai Sio Kit presents his works from April 12 until May 15\, 2019 at the Macau Art Garden. Gradually moving away from the urban scenery in recent year\, Lai Sio kit’s latest series of forest viewscapes have brought with them bracing possibilities; initially\, he began painting with the uncharted territory of the ageing city left undisturbed\, as he went on to inquire the ‘illusive and precipitous mountain ranges’ manipulated from his aerial perception of the forest. \nIn place of his developed series dominated by the bird’s-eye view\, he is now to present landscapes synthesized at the eye-level. It is Sio Kit’s intension to retain a lower viewpoint; as he sees grass sprouting\, entwining trunks and windswept limbs\, the river runs in a sloping cascade. His images are rendered with obsessive details\, characterized by remarkable textures and mellow tonalities; his downward gaze led us to see beauty in mundanity. DESCRIPTION:Following the success of last year’s inaugural event\, The Parisian Macao will stage the second Light The Night Run charity vertical race up its iconic half-scale Eiffel Tower on Saturday\, April 13 as part of a wellness and fitness fun weekend (April 13 and 14) incorporating health-orientated activities\, education\, music and cuisine. This year’s Light The Night Run 2019 has been extended to two days. Entrants can register at the General Association of Athletics of Macau (AGAM) office from now until March 30. The full run is approximately 6\,500 metres\, plus the Eiffel Tower’s 750 stairs and the time limit for this is 1.5 hours. The Tower Fun Run is around 200 metres\, plus the Eiffel Tower’s 750 stairs with a time limit of 30 minutes for completion. \nLight The Night Run invites professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts looking for a unique challenge to attempt to climb the 750 steps to the tower’s 37th floor observation deck finish line. Last year the Full Run was booked out in the first two days with over 530 contestants registering to take part in the run around The Venetian Macao and The Parisian Macao before tackling the challenging ascent\, and the Tower Fun Run which incorporated only the tower climb. \n \nThis year’s event is aiming to secure 600 contestants for the Full Run\, so runners are advised to register early. The challenge has also been ramped up\, with participants now required to run twice around The Venetian Macao and The Parisian Macao before taking on the tower. The Tower Fun Run remains unchanged. All registration fees for the event will be donated to Macau IC2 Association to sponsor its upcoming Art for Community event\, and to Caritas Macau to allow its users with restricted mobility to gain free access to its stair climber service and make it easier to get in and out of their apartments. \nAll competitors will receive a special memento from the day including a participation certificate\, while prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category. DESCRIPTION:Taipa Village Cultural Association collaborated with ZINECOOP Hong Kong to introduce a new exhibition in April entitled “SEE SAW ZINE” which aims to promote local zine culture\, individual publishing and facilitate art exchange between Hong Kong and Macau artists. The exhibition showcases an extensive collection of zines and other printed materials in the format of broadsheets and risographs. “We love\, connect & promote independent publishing” is their motto. They link zinesters\, book fairs\, zine stores and readers together\, and also help to support any zine problems\, such as zine making and distributing. \n“ZINE” is derived from “magazine”\, a short form of “fanzine”. It is a handmade\, low-cost and low circulated publication which features different topics regarding the society\, life\, human and many other related issues. The content is reflected in the form of text\, sketches\, images\, diagrams\, photos and illustrations. \n \nOne of their featured artists is Beatrix Pang\, a Hong Kong-born visual artist and cultural practitioner\, founder of Small Tune Press\, an independent art publishing house. She has studied design and photography in both local and international art institutes. Pang is currently a researcher on visual culture study. Forrest Lau is\, along Ranee Ng\, another one. He is the founder of A Thin Booklet\, a book designer at Red Publish and a graphic designer/illustrator at Yes magazine. Lau is a cinema-goer\, a history lover\, a graphic  enthusiast\, a bookworm and a dreamer\, who loves to get fully indulged in the book and magazine art industry.
