DESCRIPTION:(Featured image: Valkyrie\, by Hélio Cunha) \nOrganized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) under the Cultural Affairs Bureau\, the exhibition “Lyric Poetry – Works of Artists in Macao and Portugal from the MAM Collection”\, is open since July 13\, at the Special Exhibitions Gallery\, 3rd floor of the Macao Museum of Art. The exhibition showcases over 90 outstanding works from the MAM collection\, from oils\, acrylics\, and watercolor paintings\, to mixed-media paintings\, sculptures and installations that fully reflect the creative outcomes of contemporary artists\, as well as rich Chinese and Portuguese cultural connotations. The exhibition is open to the general public. \nThe exhibition features works by 60 artists\, including local Chinese and Macanese artists\, as well as Portuguese artists who have settled or exhibited in Macau\, presenting works by Júlio Pomar\, Vieira da Silva\, Bartolomeu dos Santos\, Luís Demée\, Carlos Marreiros\, Mio Pang Fei\, Kwok Woon\, Manuel Cargaleiro\, José de Guimarães and other masters. The six themes of the exhibition\, “View Perspective”\, “Colour of Macao”\, “Dialogues of Materials”\, “Abstract Soul”\, “Masters’ Ripples” and “On the Journey”\, showcase the results of exchange between Macau and Portuguese artists over the past 30 years\, involving the audience in a poetic journey of exchange. \nUnderwater City (1985)\, by Luís Demée \nSince the 1980s\, with the rapid development of Macau’s economy\, many Portuguese artists\, local Chinese and Macanese artists explored their creative inspiration under the environment rich in Chinese and Portuguese cultures\, constantly bringing new thoughts and driving force\, and forming one of the important cultural symbols of Macau. DESCRIPTION:Continuing the momentum of Art Macao\, Melco presents “Journey”\, a diverse selection of works inspired by the highly varied culture of anime. Forming part of Melco’s contribution to Art Macao: International Art Exhibition\, this unique exhibition is a visual adventure that explores the evolution of contemporary Japanese anime from its beginnings rooted in ukiyo-e\, the traditional art of Japanese woodblock print and painting. \nThe visual references of anime abound in Japan and beyond are seen as a visual signature of the nation.  Both the contemporary genres of anime and manga can trace their roots and influences in the woodblock art form of ukiyo-e and its Edo period heroes. Today\, its influences can be readily identified in such varying media as computer games\, toy culture\, and the work of multimedia artists around the world. This first-of-a-kind exhibition for Studio City Macau includes such highlights as Amanami Animated by MAP Office\, Mr Waterloo by Rainbo\, Waves in Time by Southbend\, Blingee by Han Yanjuan\, and the “Modern Art of Floating World” collection by Horihiro Mitomo and Ukiyoemon. \nAmanami Animated \nAmanami Animated is a contemporary animated drawing from the roots of the Edo period in Japan\, from ukiyo-e\, and from the Japanese contemporary expression of the history\, culture and traditions of the ama-san free divers who work in the Bay of Ise in Japan. This animation revisits and reimagines the patterns of the genre ukiyo-e\, not as a technique\, but as a fictional ethnographic representation of the coastal landscape during the Edo period. \nThe story is divided into eight scenes\, framed by a screen and defined by three main tableaux–water (blue)\, land (green)\, and home (yellow). The eight panels depict scenes derived from specific sets of narratives\, which are combined with a collection of myths\, beliefs and dreams that were collected by the artists during many trips to Japan. In this contemporary interpretation of the ukiyo-e\, the numerous drawing layers made by a computer replaces the traditional wood block and colored print processes. \nIn addition to “Journey”\, the installation of vibrant activations and cartoon characters designed by Hiroshi Yoshii has transformed Studio City Macau’s main lobby into an exciting world of Japanese anime. DESCRIPTION:Featured image above: Pan Jinlian in Chisha\, by Han Lei (2005) \nThis exhibition is one of the series of activities of “Art Macao” and the “2nd Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”\, showcasing the diverse manifestations and development of contemporary art in China and Portuguese-speaking countries\, and offering a new experience of Chinese and Portuguese visual arts to residents and tourists of Macau. \nThe exhibition “Lingua Franca” features numerous photography and video works by 22 representative artists from 10 countries and regions\, including Mainland China\, Macau\, and the Portuguese-speaking countries\, showcasing the distinctive regional cultures and diverse customs. This has led to exchanges and dialogues through the artworks\, allowing multiculturalism to resonate\, and composing wonderful art chapters from China and Portuguese-speaking countries. This exhibition is held at No. 55 – 57 Avenida do Coronel Mesquita (Green Townhouses)\, which is open for the first time after its restoration\, as well as at the Former Municipal Cattle Stable (Ox Warehouse)\, bringing Chinese and Portuguese artistic atmosphere to the streets. \nUntitled\, by Evandro Teixeira (1995) \nThe Portuguese-style Green Townhouses are composed of single houses with exterior walls painted in green and white\, with small and elegant interior spaces\, creating an ideal space with a cozy and comfortable atmosphere for visitors to enjoy the artworks. During the restoration period\, the Cultural Affairs Bureau completely preserved the façade and appearance of the buildings and maintained the spatial characteristics of its front and back yards. DESCRIPTION:The “7th Latin American Cultural Festival” organized by the Macao Association for the Promotion of Exchange between Asia Pacific and Latin America (MAPEAL) is held from October 11 to November 30\, 2019\, in Macau. The participating countries of this year include Argentina\, Brazil\, Chile\, Colombia\, Cuba\, Ecuador\, Mexico\, Panama\, Peru\, Uruguay\, and Venezuela. The festival consists of thirteen different cultural activities namely photo exhibitions\, a gourmet food festival\, cooking demonstrations\, coffee and tea festival\, Latin wine and spirits festival\, but also a music and dance party\, among other events! \nPhoto exhibitions include: “Latin American Historical Sites and Relics”\, Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Parliamentary Relations Between China and Uruguay (1959-2019)\, “In Touch with Argentina” and “In Touch with Brazil”. DESCRIPTION:The Exhibition of Members’ Artworks of Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao 2019 features 162 pieces (sets) of Chinese traditional paintings\, calligraphies and seal carvings in different genres\, including landscapes\, flowers\, birds\, natural features and classic ancient poetry\, among others. The artworks are created in various forms and different styles\, showing the creative and artistic heritage of the participating members. \nThe Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao has been founded for more than 60 years and is the backbone of the local Chinese traditional art field. SUMMARY:"By the Light of the Moon - Works by Hong Wai"
DESCRIPTION:Since an early age\, Hong Wai was attracted by the oriental aesthetic of Chinese Ink Art. Later in her life she started to travel around from Macau to Taiwan and then to France. Perhaps\, her rebellious genes must meet the French revolutionary soil. There are mainly two series of artworks for Hong Wai solo exhibition\, which are “Feminine Landscape”; and “Moonlight Series”. \n“Feminine Landscape”\, is a declaration of feminism in traditional Chinese ink painting. After a long period of time painting strokes of the lace pattern weaved on the paper\, Hong Wai wanted to return to Nature. Her latest work\, “Moonlight Series”\, is a removal of concept. DESCRIPTION:2019 Macau New Woman Contemporary Art Exhibition – WM joint exhibition brings together six outstanding female artists who are local and multicultural artists. They are Yang Sio Maan\, Angel Chan\, Luna Cheong\, MJ Lee\, Ana Jacinto Nunes and Tchusca Songo. In the opening ceremony\, there will also be a keynote speech and an artist sharing\, which will have invited guest speaker Yao Feng\, hostess Wendi Song and artist Cecilia Ho from the art exhibition last year. \nThe theme “WM” (“Wo Mun” in Cantonese) is a homonym of the word “Woman” in English and the word “We” (“Wo Men”) in Mandarin. Under the constraints of the social system and cultural influences\, the majority excessively magnify certain traits of a particular gender while ignoring the existing homogeneity in between males and females. This exhibition\, which conveys the commonality of “WE” as humans\, aims to promote equal opportunities for people of different genders.
