DESCRIPTION:Featured image above: Pan Jinlian in Chisha\, by Han Lei (2005) \nThis exhibition is one of the series of activities of “Art Macao” and the “2nd Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”\, showcasing the diverse manifestations and development of contemporary art in China and Portuguese-speaking countries\, and offering a new experience of Chinese and Portuguese visual arts to residents and tourists of Macau. \nThe exhibition “Lingua Franca” features numerous photography and video works by 22 representative artists from 10 countries and regions\, including Mainland China\, Macau\, and the Portuguese-speaking countries\, showcasing the distinctive regional cultures and diverse customs. This has led to exchanges and dialogues through the artworks\, allowing multiculturalism to resonate\, and composing wonderful art chapters from China and Portuguese-speaking countries. This exhibition is held at No. 55 – 57 Avenida do Coronel Mesquita (Green Townhouses)\, which is open for the first time after its restoration\, as well as at the Former Municipal Cattle Stable (Ox Warehouse)\, bringing Chinese and Portuguese artistic atmosphere to the streets. \nUntitled\, by Evandro Teixeira (1995) \nThe Portuguese-style Green Townhouses are composed of single houses with exterior walls painted in green and white\, with small and elegant interior spaces\, creating an ideal space with a cozy and comfortable atmosphere for visitors to enjoy the artworks. During the restoration period\, the Cultural Affairs Bureau completely preserved the façade and appearance of the buildings and maintained the spatial characteristics of its front and back yards. DESCRIPTION:Since an early age\, Hong Wai was attracted by the oriental aesthetic of Chinese Ink Art. Later in her life she started to travel around from Macau to Taiwan and then to France. Perhaps\, her rebellious genes must meet the French revolutionary soil. There are mainly two series of artworks for Hong Wai solo exhibition\, which are “Feminine Landscape”; and “Moonlight Series”. \n“Feminine Landscape”\, is a declaration of feminism in traditional Chinese ink painting. After a long period of time painting strokes of the lace pattern weaved on the paper\, Hong Wai wanted to return to Nature. Her latest work\, “Moonlight Series”\, is a removal of concept. SUMMARY:Lio Man Cheong Exhibition at Galeria Lisboa
DESCRIPTION:To mark the 20th anniversary of Macau’s return to the homeland\, Macau Fisherman’s Wharf hosts a new oil painting\, watercolor and acrylic exhibition by Lio Man Cheong. He is one of Macau’s most famous painters and was born on the 21st of October of 1951 in Zhuhai. In the 1960s when his family moved to Macau and on his way to school he was about ten years old and passed the Wing Lok cinema which captivated his attention by the movie posters. \nHis elementary school art teacher inspired Lio to develop a sharp interest in painting campaigns\, so after graduation\, he studied part-time at Seong Fan Evening High School and there he had the first opportunity to paint advertising posters. Lio has designed marketing materials for commercial products and street propaganda and also taught art in schools. \nVictoria Cinema has contracted Lio for promotional posters of new films brought from China and Hong Kong\, Europe and America. DESCRIPTION:Themed as “Explore the Light” this year\, Macau Tourism Mascot “Mak Mak” will join locals and visiting spectators to explore four glittery routes and Macau’s evolving cityscape over the last two decades through different angles in the art of light. The adventure will reminisce the stories and memories belonging to the people of Macau\, and evoke the joy brought by celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR. There are several routes to follow: Route 1: Light of Age (north district)\, Route 2: Light of Memory (central district and St. Lazarus parish)\, Route 3: Light of Colours (Nam Van and Sai Van district)\, Route 4: Light of Harmony (Nossa Senhora do Carmo Parish). \n“Light of Age” in the northern district connects different places including Leisure Area in Rua do General Ivens Ferraz\, Leisure Area at Baía Norte do Patane on Rua Norte do Patane and Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome. Along the route\, various spots are festooned to sparkle like a star-studded sky. Spectators can get lost in the beauty of “Eight Planets” at Leisure Area in Rua do General Ivens Ferraz\, hop onto a future spaceship for an experience of “Space Travel”\, or enjoy a walk down memory lane through different decades in Macau with the mapping show “Memory of Macau Canidrome” at Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome. \n“Light of Memory” in the central district and St. Lazarus’ Parish connects Leisure Area at Largo da Sé\, Ruins of St. Paul’s\, Rua dos Ervanários\, Largo do Pagode do Bazar and Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Spectators can experience the fun of “Swinging Cascade” and “AR Magic Sandbox” at Largo do Pagode do Bazar. “Homey Lamp” at Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro\, projects different home lightings commonly used in different ages\, which will mirror the changes in people’s life in Macau. \n“Light of Colors” in Nam Van and Sai Van Districts covers Anim’Arte Nam Van\, Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre\, the White awning at Nam Van as well as St. Joseph’s Seminary Church. The route features a cascade projection titled “Floating Wonder”\, a mega light installation “Glistening Lotus” and more\, besides an encounter with “Big Mak”\, a huge 12-meter-tall balloon “Mak Mak” at Anim’Arte Nam Van. Audiences can enjoy “Flow of Melody”\, a piano performance paired with light installation\, or shop for local signature delicacies and cultural and creative products in “Anim’Arte Market”. \n“Light of Harmony” at Our Lady of Carmel Parish will cover the Taipa Houses\, Largo dos Bombeiros and the square in front of Pak Tai Temple. “Tide of Love” projects light effects resembling ocean tides at Taipa Houses\, creating harmonious scenery imbued with romantic aroma. A mapping show named “Carnival” is staged at Largo dos Bombeiros to showcase the cultural gems and culinary delights from Portugal\, bringing to life the creative dynamic of Macau as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. \nThe Macao Light Festival 2019 is organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office\, co-organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau\, the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Sports Bureau.
