His Chinese paintings comprise a wide variety of themes including landscapes\, human figures\, flowers\, and birds; some of his works emulate the traditional schools of techniques while some are landscape sketches of the world’s beautiful scenery\, and some are creations of his own. SUMMARY:“Art-City-People” Exhibition Series: Above the Descending
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition–with paintings by local artist\, Wong Weng Cheong–explores the float space\, interpreted through 3D grating technology and flow-force of balance installations. With sounds of the sea echoing through the exhibition space\, the installations in the contradictions of materials\, gravity\, space\, and balance create a shaky and floating sensory effect. \nThe paintings\, through using grating technology that highlights visual tension and the sense of space\, convey the shapes of water. Paintings deviating from the static position create an extending tension\, producing internal dynamics between art and nature\, hence cohesion in the 2D interior of the exhibition venue. The showcase is curated by local artist Feiin Leong. \nWhen: December 17\, 2020–February 6\, 2021 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Jurassic X The Dinosaur Park at Broadway Macau
DESCRIPTION:Millions of years ago\, the planet was dominated by ancient vertebrate beings–dinosaurs. Massive volcano eruptions poured boiling lava over the earth\, burying much of the landscape\, and killing most of the dinosaurs. Millions of years later\, paleontologists are digging up fossil remains to learn more about the life of these formidable creatures. \nDinosaurs once ruled the entire terrestrial ecology for over 1.6 billion years. The evolutionary history of these massive governors remains mysterious. In the process of reasoning\, humans realized a message which transcended time and space–living is not equal to breathing and life is moving in various formations. Only by leaving our traces would it represent that we haven’t existed in vain. In “Jurassic X The Dinosaur Park”\, Broadway Macau takes you back to the era of dinosaurs to experience the sensation of the heyday of these giant lizards. \nAt the Jeep of Dinosaur Skull from Graveyard to Playfield\, you’ll ride on the dinosaur skull jeep originally created by the park and let your cinematic dream come true! From the lost and desperate kingdom to the life-abundant dinosaur playground\, the jeep takes you to lively dinosaurs in the dense jungle. Whether it’s the docile triceratops\, the fierce t-rex\, or the pterosaur hovering in the sky\, the exhibition will definitely take your breath away! \nAlso\, know the Dinosaurs from Cave Archeology: learn more about the dinosaurs by digging and exploring with archeological tools. We have created a mysterious cave to let children discover the lives of archaeologists. The area emphasizes actual practices to train children’s concentration and observation skills. The process of digging dinosaur bones can also strengthen their logical thinking and comprehension skills. \nYou’ll also be able to check out the hungry baby dinosaurs the await at the Brood Chambers! Before becoming adult dinos\, they must go through the period of baby dinos! Gazing at you with innocent big eyes\, the adorable baby dinosaurs are sure to get tons of hugs! Come pat the little ones but you better watch out for their sharp teeth! \nWhen: December 18\, 2020–March 21\, 2021 \nWhere: 2/F\, Broadway Macau\, Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus\, Cotai \nHow much: MOP $120 per person (free entry for children below 80 cm in height) \nFor more information\, check the event’s official website

SUMMARY:“re:ai” - Vernissage & Music Performance
DESCRIPTION:The dual exhibition “re:ai” of Macanese artist Edmundo Remédios Lameiras and his daughter Emma Remédios Lameiras will take place at the gallery of the Portuguese Bookshop. In the exhibition\, Edmundo draws elements from popular social media culture and downloaded different profile pictures of people from the Internet\, and then uses multiple AI (artificial intelligence) imaging applications to modify and reshape the original representations of these avatars. \nFrom here\, the topic of “portrait” is introduced and developed into a series of imagery. These printed works are colorful and the facial features of each portrait have been deliberately “fine-tuned” by the artist. The characteristics of the eyes\, ears\, nose\, and mouth have been intentionally tampered with\, jumping out of the boundaries of being recognizable or not. As an art form\, it becomes a reflection of universal cultural and social phenomena. \nThe artist’s daughter\, Emma\, who loves drawing and poetry\, has chosen the online “Automatic Text Generation” (ATG) system application and entered her own poetry to obtain sentences generated by artificial intelligence\, combined with her drawings\, she processed further and designed\, combining specific ideas of human nature with artificially produced and random text\, to create a series of profound images. \nAt the basement gallery of the Portuguese Bookshop\, what the two generations of Macau native artists want to show us is the combination of inheritance and innovation. Their reshaping of identity\, in this small city full of colonial history\, is brewing energy to invite people to enter the thoughts and visions of the future. \nWhen: March 13–27\, 2021 \nWhere: Portuguese Bookshop\, 16 R. de São Domingos\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Human Observation – Os Wei Multimedia Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Human Observation is a long-term image experiment project by O CHI WAI (Os). This exhibition features his photos from the project. The artist likes walking across different corners in the city\, observing and recording at will the surroundings with a smartphone. Shooting photos in an intuitive way\, he may be a top gun in the group where ‘everyone is a photographer. Educated in visual communication design in Taiwan\, Os abandons conventional photography techniques\, and most of his photographic works were taken with a mobile phone at whim\, on themes such as figures\, nature\, and buildings. The works\, although on subjects unrelated to one another\, convey his inner feelings through visual media. \nHe looks at the world\, at Macau people’s subjective consciousness\, with a focus on daily life and work. Observing others\, he found that man is a strange animal\, always sending messages with dressing\, facial expressions\, behaviors and movements. In Macau\, a city of diversity\, various lifestyles co-exist after centuries of interaction among peoples from different cultures\, creating a close yet strange relationship between individuals\, which is typical of Macau. This exhibition\, combing Os’s records from Human Observation in recent years\, shows more than 100 photos all around the exhibition space – placed in a disorderly way. They constitute image fragments of Os\, dreamy yet realistic. Also on display is a video work converted from images and then set to music which serves as the background sound for the whole exhibition venue. This way\, the artist pieces together audio-visual elements to bring out the theme at a deeper level. \nThe exhibition then introduces the video installation by extending this concept. A mirror confronts visitors once they enter the venue. In such a straightforward way\, each exhibition goer’s activities on the site will be monitored and shown through visual communication behind scenes. This type of invisible surveillance is becoming more and more popular\, on the one hand\, because of man’s need for a sense of security\, on the other hand\, a sense of insecurity – as if binary opposition was rooted in humans\, appearing in different forms in different times. \nThe British TV series Black Mirror explores the relationship between man and technology\, with each episode revolving around technology. The protagonists usually enjoy conveniences brought by the technology but will end up suffering from the negative consequences of using it. In one episode\, most people choose to implant memory chips\, using the eyeballs as lenses to record all the scenes beheld and archive recorded footage for future reading or use as evidence. Such extreme self-monitoring may soon become a reality in humans. Os\, as a recorder of visual images\, is precisely presenting the most authentic\, real-world images with the latest technology. \nWhen: March 23–April 24\, 2021 \nWhere: At Light Art Gallery\, 1 Pátio do Padre Narciso\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check here

SUMMARY:31st Macao Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Macao Arts Festival (MAF) dramatically lights up the city every early summer\, bringing together theater\, dance\, music\, circus\, multimedia and visual arts in an artistic panorama of events. A mix of local\, regional and international performers from various regions and countries around the world present a diversity of programs. This year’s MAF will focus on productions from Mainland China and Macau\, presenting nearly 100 events including outreach activities in various districts\, establishing a display and exchange platform\, expanding the artistic vision and enhancing the aesthetic perception of its audience. \nThe grand opening White Snake by Lin Zhaohua Theatre Studio from Beijing\, redesigns the characters of the classic folktale The Legend of the White Snake in an artistic and creative way\, combing theatre\, music\, dance and multimedia art. The closing performance Taking Leave is a production adapted from American contemporary playwright Nagle Jackson’s namesake play by the National Theatre of China. In this play\, the National First Class Director Wang Xiaoying will lead a cast of veteran actors to interpret the story of an acclaimed actor who used to play the role of King Lear\, who was approaching the end of his life\, wandering between reality and imagination\, allowing the audience to witness the fragility and eternity of life. \nThe Jin Xing Dance Theatre from Shanghai\, one of the top modern dance companies in China\, acclaimed by critics as “an important unit in the history of Chinese dance”\, presents two works\, namely Wild Flower and Trinity. In Wild Flower\, the dancers interpret a wild flower’s tenacious existence through marathon-esque non-stop dancing and movement\, liberating themselves from the bonds of body and mind. The show Trinity\, a performance of works by three renowned choreographers\, namely Jin Xing\, Emanuel Gat and Arthur Kuggeleyn\, explores women’s independent existence and physiological space within each’s distinctive movements\, and illustrates the courage and strength among people through dancers’ bodies\, inspiring artistic appeal and avant-garde ideas. \nThe Coloane game \nHuangmei Opera is a national intangible cultural heritage. The Anhui Huangmei Opera Theatre presents a new production of the classic play Dream of the Red Chamber. The play was created in the 1990s with Yu Qiuyu and Chen Xiting as the core creative team\, starring Ma Lan\, among other artists\, who innovated the classics together from a new perspective. The play instantly gained much reputation\, and thus became a reserved play in the theatre. On the MAF stage\, the play will be performed by the new generation of Huangmei opera actors\, passing on tradition and innovation. \nThe Macao Arts Festival establishes a display and exchange platform that has witnessed the professional development of local art groups\, which illustrates Macau’s cultural diversity from different perspectives. The dance theatre Drunken Dragon Dance by Four Dimension Spatial innovates the festive tradition with contemporary dance elements; the documentary theatre See You through Memories by Soda-City Experimental Workshop Arts Association\, explores the past and present landscapes of Patane\, reviewing the transformation of the city; Dance Duo recounts the transformation of the local dancer Kam Hiu Lam in a decade\, presenting her dance dialogue with choreographer Chou Shu-Yi and her joint creation with Wang Yuanqing; The Never-ending Task of Lust for Failure by Comuna de Pedra Arts and Cultural Association creates a worldview map beyond languages\, labels and disabilities of the special-needs; Property Guide at Lou Kau Mansion by Jay Lei and Shuk Man Lee and A Short Time Escape by Lei Sam I\, which were premiered at the Macao City Fringe Festival and were recommended by the artistic advisors of the Macao City Fringe Festival\, will be staged at the Macao Arts Festival again. \nMAF also encourages parents and children to enjoy artistic experiences. On the Other Side of Macao – A magical adventure by Bernardo Amorim\, a plastic arts and multimedia artist based in Macao\, brings the magic of narrative to life with the use of puppets and video mapping; The Coloane Game by Dream Theater Association offers guided tours visiting streets and alleys of Coloane\, experiencing the residents’ spirit of mutual help and the prosperity and decline of the shipbuilding industry; the artistic and cultural performances Performing Arts Gala at the Iao Hon Market Park for three consecutive nights\, inject vitality in the community through the arts. The Children’s Story World and art exploration activities will also be available this year\, and all are welcome to enjoy the world of art. \nDrunken dragon dance \nInjecting artistic vitality into traditional culture\, students from the Cantonese Opera Course at the School of Theatre of the Macao Conservatory step on the stage to present the Cantonese Opera Jiufeng Mountain; the Patuá theatre comments on all crucial issues of the city\, including current affairs\, humanism\, and dialect. This year\, the Dóci Papiaçám di Macau Drama Group presents a hilarious production Boss for a Day\, keeping the full house of the audience in stitches. The Macao Orchestra and the Macao Chinese Orchestra present the classics of Mozart and a musical feast that combine traditional Chinese culture and modern aesthetics concepts\, respectively\, carrying out a musical dialogue between the East and the West. \nRen Dongsheng\, a National First Class Stage Designer\, is dedicated to exploring stage design. He produced a collection of poetic\, vibrant\, and epochal works by repeatedly reviewing style\, color\, and techniques. The “Imagery and Space: Ren Dongsheng Scenography Exhibition” leads the audience to transcend spatial dimensions and experience the charm of scenography.
