SUMMARY:A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains 3.0 Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Through various presentations by means of digital multimedia\, interactive experiencing\, spatial displays\, and physical displays\, “A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains 3.0” illustrates the aesthetic nuances of this most famous ancient Chinese painting\, exploring it by “moving\, travelling\, seeing\, living” within it\, so as to convey the masterpiece’s philosophical pursuit of “harmony between man and nature”\, prompting visitors to ponder the relationships between man and nature\, man and society\, and man and his soul. \n \nThe digital long scroll of A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains is the world’s first multi-channel technology enabling real-time interaction with the audience. By just waving a hand\, a viewer can have a character in the painting walk out of the boat cabin and greet him or her. The digital scroll also projects the succession of seasons (spring\, summer\, autumn and winter) and weather changes (cloudy\, sunny\, rainy\, snowy) on the wall screen as well as synchronizing with real-time weather changes in Macau. \nWhen: December 18\, 2019–March 15\, 2020 \nWhere: Macao Museum of Art\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s official website

SUMMARY:Game – Gigi Lee’s Multimedia Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The notion of play has long been a crucial factor in our lives\, as our doings integrate and unfold in games. When technology advances\, the world of gaming has moved away from interactive equipment and manifested in virtual reality. The gaming industry has reflected on forty years of technological developments and the changes of human values\, at the same time\, the game industry continued to shape our economic structure. In place of physical value\, the next generation will be driven by the utility of a digital future. \nThe 00s grow up in the intangible digital world\, in a society that would be characterized by the digital assets of animation\, virtual Idols\, game accessories and virtual currencies. For his video installation “Super Mario Clouds”\, Cory Arcangel has tweaked the game’s code in a cartridge of Super Mario Brothers\, presenting his work as a game within the game. Forty years have passed since Super Mario Clouds came out\, and the mainstream of game culture is now dominated by virtual and augmented reality. As we maneuver in digital games\, it is becoming hard to tell reality from fantasy. In such context\, how do we transfer our real life values into the digital world? The exhibition investigates the latest gaming technologies with traditional game consoles\, by inviting the audiences to rethink on the real and digital world. \nWhen: December 28\, 2019–February 16\, 2020 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, 15 Rua do Volong\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Macau Zentangle Art Joint Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is arranged by four locally certified Zentangle teachers who are Vibian Kou\, Ron Loo\, Velda Chan\, and Katniss Ao Ieong\, where the artworks of certified Zentangle teachers and their students will be demonstrated. The artworks consist of cooperated creation\, merged creation and Zentangle inspired art\, and more. \nZentangle art originates from the U.S. which is the new rising art style. It is a relaxing drawing method that allows artists to relieve pressure and gain self-recognition. When drawing zentangles\, simple lines are applied to draw pretty and complicated patterns\, under a certain framework with personal thoughts added\, so as to achieve a state of relaxation and concentration. \nSince zentangle students come from different ages and career backgrounds\, they take away their own unique interpretations after working with zentangles. These students bring interesting stories to share. The aim of this exhibition is to promote zentangle so that we can experience zentangle art as being tangible. Art is not supposed to be untouchable. Everyone can enjoy creating art that can positively impact others. \nWhen: January 7–13\, 2020 \nWhere: Rui Cunha Foundation\, GF 749 Avenida da Praia Grande\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Printmaking Exhibition “Fallen”
DESCRIPTION:“Fallen” is a unique printmaking exhibition jointly presented by two Macau-born\, Canada-based sisters Bonnie Leong and Kitty Leung who always present their work as a duo. As the first show at Taipa Village Art Space in 2020\, the artists exhibit a set of abstract works based on the ancient technique of printmaking\, with an aim to explore the past\, present and future relationships in their experience. In life\, although everyone walks their own different paths\, they often always exist in various self-created spaces and times. Whether our current situation can be truly in the current state\, or just staying in the lost memories\, or the unknown future. The authors use this work to explore the past\, present and future relationships in their experience. \nThe different linear forms and textures of this work are not only the artists’ description of personal emotions\, but also their observation and expression of the depths of the soul. We look forward to welcoming you in this artistic event. Bonnie Leong is an artist born in Macau and now based in BC Canada. Leong received her Bachelor of Visual Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Leong considers her art process a self-searching and growing journey through the years. Kitty Leung was born in Macau. She immigrated to Canada and got her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Arts and Design in 1999 and her Master of Fine Arts from York University in 2001. She is an interdisciplinary artist working in print media\, installation\, video\, drawing and photo-based projects. \nWhen: January 29–March 31\, 2020 \nWhere: Taipa Village Art Space\, 10\, Rua dos Clérigos\, Taipa Village \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2857 6118 or check here

SUMMARY:“Women in a Foreign Land—A Saiyin Project” Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:“Women in a Foreign Land” is an ongoing project. Saiyin conceived the idea in Shanghai where he pursued his studies\, and upon his return to Zhuhai after graduation\, he was one step closer to realizing it. A self-conscious person who also always keeps a keen eye on the people and things around\, Saiyin naturally chooses to follow immigrants in Macao in the new era – in this case\, women who immigrated to Macau from mainland China and Portugal – with a focus on immigration and identity issues. \nHow are the lives of immigrants in Macau today? Centring around this\, the artist develops works based on the stories of two women who respectively emigrated from mainland China and Portugal to Macau. How did those events happen in this land\, Asia’s Las Vegas\, and how did their daily lives and emotional lives connect with Macau? \nThis time at the Ox Warehouse Experimental Site\, the “Women in a Foreign Land” project is presented for the first time as an exhibition\, through video\, photography and audio works\, which include self-narratives as well as shots of the women’s daily life spaces. The exhibited works explore the everyday and love lives of these “strangers” in a fast-growing city in the mighty torrent of history. The exhibition is curated by Noah Ng and Gong Siyue. \nWhen: March 20–May 17\, 2020 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check their Facebook event page

SUMMARY:“New Generation. New Media” Art Exhibition Series “Floating World” - New Media Art Exhibition of Kit Lee
DESCRIPTION:Kit Lee’s new media art exhibition “Floating World” is her first solo exhibition\, organised by the Macau Art For All Society\, and is one of the 2020 annual exhibitions projects: “New Generation – New Media” – Art Exhibition Series part I for emerging artists. Kit Lee was born in Macau. \nShe graduated from the Department of Mass Communication at Tamkang University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree. Then she went to Taiwan again in 2011-2013 for her master’s degree. In 2014 she returned to Macao to work while writing her thesis. In 2016 she graduated from Tainan National University of the Arts\, Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts. Since her return to Macau\, she has been working in multimedia design. \nDuring her studies in the Department of Communication\, Kit Lee began to study and apply media and video art. Her early works were mostly experimental video art\, including information dissemination and popular culture topics\, animation production and post-production of video. Compared to the rough texture of the informational images obtained on the mass media\, she is also fascinated by the beauty of flowers. \nSince 2016\, she has started a series of flower artworks. Kit Lee uses 3D software to construct the shape and movement of flowers. Post-production software produces “effect in water”. Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) refers to images generated using computer algorithms\, referring mainly three-dimensional images that simulate reality and natural forms. The instructions in the algorithm describe a calculation that can be performed from an initial time when executed. \n \nThe state and the initial input (may be empty) starts\, and after a series of finite and clearly defined states finally produces the output and stops at a final state\, then loops\, and starts again and again. The characteristic of this kind of work is its emptiness. Compared with the “reality”of everything in the world\, the flowers of emptiness of Kit Lee are untouchable\, and there is only silence in a dark profundity. \nWhen: March 28–April 27\, 2020 \nWhere: Macau Art Garden\, 265 Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check their website\, call +853 2836 6064 or send an email to info@afamacau.com

SUMMARY:Who Heeds a Man Who Sits and Wails out in the Cold? – Illustrations and Drawings by Rui Rasquinho
DESCRIPTION:Taipa Village Cultural Association exclusively showcases an illustration and drawing exhibition entitled “Who heeds a man who sits and wails out in the cold?” presented by Macau-based Portuguese artist Rui Rasquinho. The selected works for this exhibition are based on a series of illustrations published in Hoje Macau newspaper (a local Portuguese language newspaper) during a seven-year span\, from 2012 to 2019. \nThe story behind the scenes is that Rasquinho embarked on a long-term graphic commitment based on a weekly assignment\, which was to illustrate translated scholarly texts (poems\, philosophies\, critical essays) from several controversial Chinese literati\, such as Li He (790-816 AD)\, Wang Chong (27-100 AD)\, Huainanzi (139 BC) and Wen Tzu (742 AD). \nThe title of this exhibition hails from the stanza of a poem entitled “Let Wine Be Brought In!” written by Li He. The illustrations and drawings reflect Rui’s artistic skills\, in which he found realization in pure abstraction registered in Chinese Orihon style watercolor books (originating from the Tang dynasty\, 618-908 AD). \nWhen: April 8–July 3\, 2020 \nWhere: Taipa Village Art Space\, 10 Rua Dos Clérigos\, Taipa \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2857 6118 or send an email to info@taipavillagemacau.org.mo

SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Program: Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:Ox Warehouse invited two Korean artists MJ Lee and Maing Heewon to engage in our Artist-in-Residence Program\, investigate on the obscure stories of Macau. The two have acquainted when they were studying at the sculpture department of Sunhwa Arts School; now both came to Macau\, they are baffled by the complexity and chaos in this land. \nMJ Lee has taken interest in the street shrines across Macau\, when she finds the statues appealing in their vibrant colors and elegant postures. At the entrance of the exhibition\, MJ Lee builds an altar with a mixture of clay and gold leaf; its structure breaking\, scattering into the mud and golden paint that has made up of the components. With this creation\, MJ Lee sets out to study superstitious behaviors\, giving way to the temporality of all existence\, as she proposes: What is that we are searching in life? \nIn other ways\, Maing Heewon is inspired by the sauna facilities in Macau. The naked bodies of Maing’s Sauna girls extrapolated as symbols of desire; at this time\, the Birth of Venus has been reinterpreted\, through her own understandings\, to churn out in a line of delicate\, sculptural bodies; placed on numbered pedestals\, they are offered for observation\, as though an endless row of beauty pageant contestants. The images of voluptuous female bodies are printed on thermal paper\, which fine texture recalls the smoothness of skin\, mapping the transformation of desire and the fleeting impressions of the city. \nIn this Wonderland\, their outlandish perspective allows us to see Macau in a different light\, as they point to the burning issues of modern insanity. Fei In Leong is the exhibition’s curator. \nWhen: April 17–May 24\, 2020 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page

DESCRIPTION:Ark-Association of Macau Art (AAMA) exclusively presents its annual art program entitled Art Power Jamming\, under the theme of “Hidden Corner”. The program\, which is sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau\, features three unique shows presented by three distinguished Macau talents\, namely local artist Yaya Vai\, talented handicrafter\, Bezalel Ho\, and Vanda Chan Ka Ian\, an illustrator. The three shows take place from May until August\, 2020 at Café Voyage. \nThe purpose of this annual art exhibition is to bring together the different styles of artists\, regardless of their genders\, ages\, nationalities\, and places of origin. These artists will create their art productions using their unique styles\, methods\, medium\, but focusing on a common theme. SUMMARY:“Somniloquence” – Works by Tong Chong
DESCRIPTION:“Somniloquence” is a series of latest artworks is the artist’s exploration in colors during the past two to three years. Tong Chong\, who has turned over forty years old now\, said that there was an absence of bright colors in his paintings previously. But as he entered middle age\, he seemed to reach a new comprehension of colors in his works. \nHe has chosen to use Chinese traditional painting pigments\, because the colors of plants and mineral pigments are more natural\, and the use of colors is combined with traditional paper-cutting art. Using bamboo fiber paper as a medium\, which provides more advantages in coloring and preservation\, he paints\, does coloring and collage in the process. \nTong Chong’s exploration of totems has never stopped since he was a teenager. His painting style never drifted to other mainstream culture\, he has dedicated himself to exploring the plasticity of turning reality into patterns and images\, which also led him to the path of sculpture art. \nThe current exhibition of Tong Chong\, organized by the Macau Art For All Society\, is the first part of the exhibition series of “Perpetual Impermanence” for established artists in the annual planning of 2020. The exhibition “Somniloquence” – Works by Tong Chong is his 11th solo exhibition\, showcasing 22 pieces of his latest and selected artworks\, including five sculptures\, and the rest are paintings. \nWhen: May 9–June 7\, 2020 \nWhere: AFA\, 4F Art Garden\, 265 Avenida Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check AFA’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Mountain Surrounded by Sea – Sound & Art Installation
DESCRIPTION:Mountain Surrounded by Sea is a sound and art installation produced by Crystal W.M. Chan and Benjamin K. Hodges\, two artists splitting their time between Macau and the U.S. This installation at Creative Macau is intended to provoke contemplation about the precarity between land and sea\, invention and destruction. \nAccording to the exhibition’s curator\, “Land and sea are locked in a perpetual battle. Again and again\, waves try and fail to make it on land. Erosion takes some back to the sea\, beating up rocks\, shells and everything else caught up in it\, with sand the first casualty of this ongoing war. \nIt is worn down\, buried and slowly accumulates forming sandbars\, islands and archipelagos. The slow friction of the daily grind wears things into smaller parts\, smoother bits. Sand is also the stuff of memory and vacations\, nostalgia and heat; it is the grit of friction\, the trace that gets into sandals and gears. It is there on the desert island and in the hourglass. It is how we mark time; it is hourly and geological\, and sometimes golden or black. We know from both science and imagination that islands form by one of two processes. They either break away or raise up from beneath. And people insert themselves into them. They build walls and barriers between land and sea\, moats that make castles into islands. How do we live on this shifting sand; is it wise to build on this battlefield? \nTo live on the island is to sometimes forget the sands beneath and the sea that surrounds us. In Macau or Manhattan\, the sea is always nearby but is often drowned out by the noise of the city. Shuttling across bridges and flying above\, the sea passes in an instant. In these fleeting moments\, it’s all we can do to look out the window and nod to the sun\, moon and neighboring towers that loom over it. They provide some signal of a possible future to come. But we know Macau is not an island\, it is an island attached\, a Presque-isle\, an almost island. It is a place of escape\, a place full of waiting and arrivals; but it is also not alone. It is locked into a process of expansion and retreat; through land reclamation projects old and new it reaches out to make land from the sea and readies itself for the arrival of waves big and small.” \nBenjamin Kidder Hodges is an artist and academic from Virginia in the U.S. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a PhD in Anthropology and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Macau; where he has developed the university’s creative courses and Creative Media Lab. \nCrystal Chan Wai Man is a painter and multimedia artist born and raised in Portuguese Macau. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York and is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Purchase College\, State University of New York. \nWhen: May 19–June 6\, 2020 \nWhere: Creative Macau\, G/F Macau Cultural Centre Building\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Naughty Roll Design Show
DESCRIPTION:“Naughty Roll” is a risograph studio composed of four graphic designers. The meaning of the word “shasha roll” in Cantonese mostly refers to sloppy things but also has a quirky and interesting language. However\, “Naughty Roll” is not so sloppy in design and printing in stencil printing. They believe that the design should be more than mud\, and must constantly pursue the design ideas of sky-traveling\, brain-opening\, “play\, play seriously\, play with quality” to play and design while presenting high-quality products is their ultimate goal. \nIn addition to the flat display\, this exhibition also displays and sells products. It will also deconstruct the illustrations printed by Risograph and split the color version to let viewers understand the printing principles and characteristics of Risograph\, so as to promote and popularize Risograph\, as well as the possibility of printing in Macau. \nWhen: May 24–July 11\, 2020 \nWhere: At Light Art Gallery\, Hongyifeng Creative Club\, 1 Pátio do Padre Narciso\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 6595 7203\, check their Facebook event page or send an email to aelartmo@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Program: Eerie Scenery
DESCRIPTION:Artist Dennis Wong is particularly interested in understanding the relationships between human beings\, spaces and living environments. These elements have inspired the artist to march forward boldly in order to fulfill his dreams. In his “Eerie Scenery”\, the artist takes photographs of strangers\, vagrants\, Sham Shui Po\, and macrographies of human bodies. \nOften his pictures lead you astray like a guessing game\, and the more you look\, the more doubts you’d find. Logical connections fail to establish\, yet the “people” in the pictures intrigue as chronicles of contemporary life. Therefore\, a work that does not possess a priori justification can obscure the “private” and “public” propositions. Without the proverbial “box”\, then we are free to think outside familiar routines…indeed\, Dennis Wong has never attempted to offer a comprehensive narrative in his work. \nWhen: 12:00pm–7:00pm\, June 2–July 12\, 2020 \nWhere: Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:Artistic Calligraphy and Painting Works of the Women Associates
DESCRIPTION:The Rui Cunha Foundation presents the exhibition “Artistic Calligraphy and Painting Works of the Women Associates”\, celebrating the first anniversary of the Macau Women Calligraphers\, Painters and Sculptors Association\, which took place on March 24. It brings together 34 pieces made by 33 female artists from Macau. \nThese works seek to convey “the active and passionate role of the Macau women towards traditional Chinese culture”\, according to the president of the association\, Hong San San. They also highlight the reality that is being experienced today at a global level\, as several pieces “very clearly express the idea that resilience and a positive spirit are the determining qualities in times of crisis and adversity”. \nThe most recent works were even the subject of the association’s first virtual exhibition – “Ode to the Heroes of the Fight against Pandemic” – held online on February 25\, which paid tribute to the men and women who were on the front lines in defense of the health and safety of the population. \nThe Macau Women Calligraphers\, Painters and Sculptors Association is a non-profit organization\, founded in March 2019 by the current president\, Hong San San. The basic principles for its constitution are the establishment of an exchange platform for women artists and the gathering of means for learning and researching the theory and the practice of such craft. The project also intends\, through the constant consolidation of artistic techniques and the organization of various periodic events\, to promote the dissemination and to contribute to the sustainable development of traditional Chinese culture\, in terms of its preservation and diffusion among future generations. SUMMARY:‘Art-City-People’ Exhibition Series: Journey-Memory-Fragment
DESCRIPTION:The first exhibition of Ox Warehouse’s “Art-City-People” Exhibition Series\, invited artist Xiaoqiao Li who is a PhD student in Visual Arts Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University now to hold a solo exhibition. His current practice explores the physical process and methodology of surface\, space and memory through the crossing of medias: drawing\, printmaking\, photography\, moving image and projection. \nThe exhibition “Journey-Memory-Fragment” presents videos\, photography\, interactive games and 3D-printed works\, the multimedia display takes up the first and second floor. Over the years\, Xiaoqiao strives to break through the limitations of two-dimensional art\, such as the combination of photography and 3D printing in Fragment-reconstitution\, an experimental work elevated by his printmaking logics and syntax. \nIn another work Fragment-Don’t clear\, the videogame allowed the artist an alternative to communicate in digital application\, as a study on how images manifest in time and space. Xiaoquao Li has considered printmaking as a creative methodology\, whereas\, all of his works are precisely calibrated to demonstrate a profound thesis. \nWhen: June 3–July 12\, 2020 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:teamLab SuperNature Macao
DESCRIPTION:Featured image: teamLab. Expanding Three-Dimensional Existence in Transforming Space – Flattening 3 Colors and 9 Blurred Colors\, Free Floating\, 2009-2018\, Interactive Installation\, Endless\, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi © teamLab \nTeamLab SuperNature Macao is a groundbreaking permanent interactive experience opening at The Venetian Macao in June\, 2020. Cotai Expo boasts 5\,000 square meters of labyrinthine floor space. With eight meter-high ceilings throughout\, the space is transformed by teamLab into an extremely complex\, three-dimensional world across varying elevations\, featuring immersive and compelling artworks. \nThis is a single\, massive world comprised of works by art collective teamLab that aims to explore new perceptions of the world and the continuity between humans and nature. It is a “body immersive” museum centered around a group of works that blur the boundaries between people’s bodies and art. In teamLab SuperNature\, people immerse their bodies in art with others\, influencing and becoming a part of the artworks themselves. People become one with the art\, blurring their perception of the boundaries between the body and the artwork\, and thereby recognizing the continuity between the self and the world. \nThe seasons change gradually across the installation space of Mountain of Flowers and People: Lost\, Immersed and Reborn. A seasonal year of flowers blossoms according to the changing seasons\, and the place where they grow gradually moves. The flowers bud\, grow\, and blossom before their petals begin to wither and eventually fade away. The cycle of growth and decay repeats itself in perpetuity. If a person stays still\, the flowers surrounding them grow and bloom more abundantly. If viewers touch or step on the flowers\, they shed their petals\, wither\, and die all at once. Neither a prerecorded animation nor on loop\, the work is rendered in real-time by a computer program. The interaction between the viewer and the installation causes continuous change in the artwork; previous visual states can never be replicated\, and will never reoccur. \nThe Infinite Crystal Universe artwork is forever evolving\, changing moment to moment due to the people in the space. Pointillism uses an accumulation of distinct dots of color to create a picture. Here\, light points are used to create three-dimensional objects. This interactive artwork expresses the universe through accumulated light points that spread infinitely in all directions. People can use their smartphones to select elements that make up the universe by dragging them and releasing them into The Infinite Crystal Universe. Each element of the universe sent into the work influences that of other elements and is influenced by the presence of people in the space. \nThere are a lot more installations on-site\, so be sure to head there with the whole family! Kids are going to be thrilled with all the fun and interaction teamLab SuperNature allows. \nWhen: Daily\, 10:00am–10:00pm (last entry 9:15pm)\, June 15\, 2020 onwards \nWhere: Cotai Expo\, The Venetian Macao\, Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança\, Cotai \nHow much: MOP $238 (adults)\, MOP $168 (children aged three to 12) \nFor more information\, check the event’s official website and buy tickets here \nteamLab.
