SUMMARY:Macau Experimental Video Festival (EXiM 2020)
DESCRIPTION:Called the “2+1+2 Program”\, EXiM 2020 kicks off with “Straightforward – Works by Chen Qiang” and “Heart to Heart – Experimental Video Exhibition”. Since 2018\, EXiM has been presented in exhibition format instead of screening. Works will not merely be screened\, but also be displayed via video installation. Doing so can better reflect the diversity in the creation of contemporary experimental image. \n“The year 2020 started in a weird way\, with the smartest creatures on the planet beginning to fear a virus emerging from nowhere absurdly. It is impossible to present an exhibition without exploring our current anxiety at this moment in time. When sorting out my past works\, I found that my thoughts on the living environment were buried in the “evolution” of my art. With the passage of time\, I have been constantly upgrading the accuracy of my focus in my works. These pieces directly and straightforwardly depict individual struggle and revel in the social tide.”\, the author of the works presented at “Straightforward”\, Chen Qiang\, explains. \nThe Chinese title of the exhibition comes from an old Hong Kong movie\, Sworn Brothers (Chinese:《肝膽相照》\, whose exact meaning is ‘to be trusted friends treating each other with sincerity’.) I chose the title for this event\, a showcase of Chinese experimental videos. In the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic\, I invite artists whose cities have just endured (or are still experiencing) long days of panic. DESCRIPTION:The Macao Light Festival 2020 is bringing light installations\, interactive games and projection mapping shows\, accompanied by music\, to brighten the city every night between September 26 and October 31\, 2020. \nAmong the highlights of the festival are the projection mapping shows\, with projections at heritage buildings in Tap Seac Square featuring as one of the main spots this year. The shows will also “paint” once again the façades of the Macau Yat Yuen Canidrome\, formerly a dog racing track; and the Cozinha Pinocchio restaurant at Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa Village\, along with two other new sites on this edition\, namely the China Products Company building in Hong Kung Temple Square and the Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Areia Preta Urban Park. \nIn addition to video mapping shows\, different spots along the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre\, Anim’Arte NAM VAN\, the Leisure Area at Rua do General Ivens Ferraz in Fai Chi Kei\, Taipa Village\, and several other locations in the different parishes of the city\, are among the 12 sites forming the network of routes for this year’s festival\, featuring light installations and interactive games. Along the routes are spots to take selfies and check in on social media. \nThis year’s Macao Light Festival shows the rich culture and urban charm of Macau while demonstrating that the city is a safe place to visit during the COVID-19 pandemic. The features of the festival highlight the beauty of the World Heritage architecture Macao possesses\, the characteristics that distinguish the various communities that make up the city\, and manifestations of the status of Macau as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. \nNow into its sixth year\, the Macao Light Festival is a signature event.
