SUMMARY:After Hours - Late Night Fantastic Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:This unique festival will bring eight special films to Macau which have probably never been seen on the big screen in the city. To make things more interesting\, they will be screened at midnight every Friday and Saturday between August 31 and September 22. Each of the eight films is from a different part of the world and each is a cult success in its own right\, with some being successful\, some being comedic and some being thoughtful. \nThe opening movie is one of most talked about the horror films of the year\, Hereditary. For those who like a bit of blood and gore\, they should check out French director Julia Ducournau’s\, Raw. The Wild Boys\, meanwhile\, is a stylish\, unusual take on cross-dressing\, being a survival story as well. There is also a shock comedy\, Female Trouble\, from John Waters. Miami Connection is an action-cult film directed by taekwondo master Y. K. Kim. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Coen brothers’ comedy The Big Lebowski\, and this is also one of the festival’s highlights. SUMMARY:21st Lusofonia Festival
DESCRIPTION:The 21st Lusofonia Festival offers a diversified programme of activities. It is a festival celebrating culture\, gastronomy\, music and dance shows\, with fun and games for all ages. Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau\, it takes place from 19th to 21st October\, at the Taipa Houses. \nThe first edition of the Lusofonia Festival was held in 1998\, and it was held alongside a programme of activities celebrating the Portuguese National Day on 10 June to honor Portuguese-speaking community residents in Macao for their contribution to the city’s development. Over the years it has gained such popularity that it’s become one of the greatest events on the cultural calendar of Macau. \nThe programme of this edition of the Festival is as diversified as in previous years. Different booths of Macao Portuguese-speaking communities from ten countries or regions\, namely Angola\, Brazil\, Cape Verde\, Guinea-Bissau\, Goa\, Daman and Diu\, Mozambique\, Portugal\, São Tomé and Príncipe\, Macao and East Timor\, will be set up\, introducing their countries or regions’ traditional music\, photographs\, arts and crafts\, costumes\, literature and gastronomy\, thereby injecting vitality in the Lusofonia Festival and allowing visitors to get to know in-depth the Portuguese-speaking countries and regions’ rich cultures. \n \nDuring each day of the Festival\, three groups from nine Portuguese-speaking countries and regions will perform different styles of music and dance on a stage built at the Taipa Houses Amphitheatre. Several local art groups will also perform on this stage\, on another stage\, namely at the Carmo Square\, there will be soft music performances by local groups\, daily from 7:30pm. The public can enjoy music in a relaxed atmosphere while experiencing Portuguese-inspired gastronomy and delicacies. In addition\, a temporary restaurant serving Portuguese flavour and dishes (namely typical Portuguese grilled food and specialties from the various Portuguese-speaking regions) will be available. \nIn terms of recreation\, visitors of all ages can participate in traditional Portuguese games and table football tournaments\, as well as experience the sensations of the Guia Circuit through a Macau Grand Prix Simulator; while children can take photographs and take pony rides\, as well as participate in various children’s games. DESCRIPTION:Cinematheque Passion and the Goethe-Institut Hong Kong will jointly bring you KINO/18@Macao\, featuring eight of the latest German feature films and two special screenings of Swiss films demonstrating the power of contemporary image to the audiences. \nA variety of ideas and storylines with a human touch\, such as rebellion and courage\, love and doubt\, yearning and awakening\, are explored in these remarkable films. Many films were nominated for or have won outstanding awards at the German Film Awards or Berlin International Film Festival 2018\, including Transit\, Styx\, and Western\, which was nominated for Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard Award 2017. Other new German films include 303 and Away You Go\, both focusing on a female perspective. The Garden is set against the background of a Germany family in the 1970s. \n \nThe film opening the Macau festival’s series\, The Silent Revolution\, is based on a true event\, depicting how an idea could inadvertently bring about a dramatic change in the lives of teenagers during the sensitive political context of post-war East Germany in the 1950s. Director Lars Kraume won Best National Director at Munich Film Festival 2018. \nA mini Director-in-focus on critically acclaimed film master Rainer Werner Fassbinder is specially curated for Macau audience in this edition\, featuring four of his films from different periods\, including Love is Colder Than Death (1969)\, which was his first feature film at the age of 24\, Merchant of Four Seasons (1972)\, a popular and critically-acclaimed work\, The Marriage of Maria Braun (1978)\, a tragic love film from the top of his career\, and Fassbinder’s last film Querelle (1982).
