SUMMARY:Cinematheque Passion Reopening: "A Love Letter to the Cinema"
DESCRIPTION:Companhia de Produção de Entretenimento e Cultura is Cinematheque Passion’s new management team and they’re creating an event for the reopening of this venue: “A Love Letter to the Cinema”. They’ve selected films from different countries and territories across different eras. \nWhether classics in film history or masterpieces in their own right\, their themes are all related to the cinema. SUMMARY:Macau Experimental Video Festival (EXiM 2020)
DESCRIPTION:Called the “2+1+2 Program”\, EXiM 2020 kicks off with “Straightforward – Works by Chen Qiang” and “Heart to Heart – Experimental Video Exhibition”. Since 2018\, EXiM has been presented in exhibition format instead of screening. Works will not merely be screened\, but also be displayed via video installation. Doing so can better reflect the diversity in the creation of contemporary experimental image. \n“The year 2020 started in a weird way\, with the smartest creatures on the planet beginning to fear a virus emerging from nowhere absurdly. It is impossible to present an exhibition without exploring our current anxiety at this moment in time. When sorting out my past works\, I found that my thoughts on the living environment were buried in the “evolution” of my art. With the passage of time\, I have been constantly upgrading the accuracy of my focus in my works. These pieces directly and straightforwardly depict individual struggle and revel in the social tide.”\, the author of the works presented at “Straightforward”\, Chen Qiang\, explains. \nThe Chinese title of the exhibition comes from an old Hong Kong movie\, Sworn Brothers (Chinese:《肝膽相照》\, whose exact meaning is ‘to be trusted friends treating each other with sincerity’.) I chose the title for this event\, a showcase of Chinese experimental videos. In the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic\, I invite artists whose cities have just endured (or are still experiencing) long days of panic. The selected works are not just about the pandemic\, but about “life” at this very moment. \nMacau Experimental Video Festival: “Heart to Heart” – Experimental Video includes the works of the following artists: Chen Chen\, Lu Changbu\, Pu Yue Mei\, Wenhua Shi\, Tan Tan\, Tao Tao\, Zhou gang and Zhou zhang.\nWhen: September 17–October 18\, 2020 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, 15 Rua do Volong\, GF\, 1F & 2F Gallery\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or \ncheck the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:The 5th Macau International Lantern Festival
DESCRIPTION:The fifth edition of the Macau International Lantern Festival takes on an even more meaningful for locals and visitors alike as it offers everyone the opportunity to celebrate two momentous holidays together – National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. Renowned Macanese architect and artist\, Carlos Marreiros\, has created more than 20 monumental art installations themed as “Tomorrow Will be Better” and “Happy Together” to light up the skies of Macau all throughout the month of October. \nOn the Waterfront Promenade of One Central Macau\, there are six giant luminous lantern sculptures\, entitled “Happy Together: Macau Lights Up in Joy and Hope”\, crafted in the shapes of vintage toys to evoke a heartwarming sense of nostalgia. Lanterns such as the ‘Happy Clown Toy’\, ‘Robot Darling’\, ‘Childhood Soldier of Fortune’\, and ‘Love Galo’ are reinterpreting classic toys and transforming the Waterfront Promenade into a lively children’s playground. These lantern sculptures not only serve as a reminder of joyful childhood dreams\, but also symbolise a bright future that everyone can heartily look forward to. \n \nOn the Lakeside Promenade of Wynn Macau\, 17 butterfly and hot air balloon lantern sculptures entitled “Wynn Butterfly Story” are on display. The series of sculptures are reminiscent of flying butterflies dancing among flowers together with hot air balloons\, giving people of all ages an opportunity to celebrate both the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day under the beautiful Mid-Autumn moonlight. Designed with sustainability in mind\, Wynn is using solar power to light up all of the gorgeous lanterns along the Lakeside Promenade by Wynn Macau. Wynn has also once again collaborated with renowned architect and artist Carlos Marreiros and invited award-winning students from the “Wynn Cup – Macau Primary School Student National Education Drawing Competition” to create lantern designs this year. Each brush stroke expresses meaningful aspirations and welcome both National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. \nDrawing inspiration from the “Wynn Butterfly Story” lantern display at the Lakeside Promenade by Wynn Macau\, Café Esplanada and Buns & Bubbles are pleased to present special “Butterfly Story” delicacies that feature colorful butterflies and hot air balloons for locals and visitors to enjoy throughout the Lantern Festival. \nWhen: October 1–31\, 2020 \nWhere: Macau International Lantern Festival – Waterfront Promenade of One Central Macau\, Avenida de Sagres\, Nape\, Macau and Lakeside Promenade of Wynn Macau\, Rua Cidade de Sintra\, Macau \nThemed afternoon tea – Café Esplanada\, Wynn Macau\, Rua Cidade de Sintra\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission
