SUMMARY:“Stay\, Dine and See Macao” Tours
DESCRIPTION:The “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” project’s new phase starts in April\, 2021 and its highlights features helicopter rides across the city’s skies\, as well as yacht experiences as well. Due to the rising number of applications for helicopter trips\, the government has created a system of drawing\, where applicants are chosen through a lucky draw. The project offers a wide range of different city tours for both residents and non-residents to enjoy. Interested residents can sign up at travel agencies under the umbrella of the project which not only covers a range of local tours but also introduces experiences at local hotels. \nEvery permanent and non-permanent resident of the Macao Special Administrative Region is entitled to a one-time subsidy for each of both categories–local tour and hotel staycation. The project is tailored to support travel industry professionals by creating job opportunities as a form of relief\, while joining industry operators to invest resources in launching remarkable local tour itineraries\, spurring new rises in domestic demand and spending in local communities. \nTours are available on weekends and public holidays from April throughout December with an increase of the number of tours during the summer month of July and August. An array of local profound-themed tour itineraries will be launched at the first stage. The helicopter ride experience–which gained wide popularity last year–is available once again. New highlights such as “tourism + culture”\, “tourism + sports” and “tourism + ecology” are incorporated into different tour itineraries. \nThe six tour itineraries feature elements as follows: exploring architectures at Nossa Senhora Village of Ká Hó\, science learning at Cotai Ecological Zone\, Macao VR/Celebrity Wax Museum\, Macao Grand Prix Museum and Handover Gifts Museum of Macao\, youth music and cultural appreciation experience\, helicopter ride experience and yacht check-in tour. Every Macau resident is entitled to a maximum of 280-patacas subsidy for local tour participation\, as well as a 100-patacas dining card (except for the helicopter ride experience and the yacht check-in tour). After subsidized\, the tour fee ranges between MOP $28 and MOP $518 patacas for the six tour itineraries\, covering sightseeing\, tour guide\, and insurance fees. The local tours will be conducted in Cantonese\, Portuguese and English according to the residents’ needs. \nSince the start of the pandemic\, “staycation” has emerged as a prevailing new trend. For Macau residents to enjoy the joy of short vacations while it is not possible yet to travel abroad\, the project “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” newly incorporates the experience of local hotels from Monday to Sunday as well as on public holidays. Many hotels have joined this project to provide a variety of staycation experiences for patrons. Some hotels also offer staycation packages that include other tourism products\, while others feature partnerships with products of community businesses. \nInterested residents can opt for their favorite local tour itineraries or local hotels from the “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” project at the sales outlets of accredited travel agencies with their valid Macao SAR IDs\, confirm their preferred tour date and time or hotel check-in date and complete the sign-up formalities by payment. \nThe project includes the participation of more than 160 travel agencies\, over 800 travel industry professionals\, more than 70 hotels and guest houses\, over 500 tour coaches (including barrier-free tour coaches)\, over 500 tour coach drivers and over 500 local tour guides. MGTO expressed that the project aims to support local travel agencies\, the hotel and catering industries\, to sustain the livelihood of personnel of travel agencies\, tour guides\, coach drivers and employees of related sectors while providing an initiative for residents to enjoy local dining\, sightseeing and hotel staycation economically. The project is set to spur rises in domestic demand and spending in communities\, leading to further recovery of tourism and related industries. \nWhen: Local tours – April 25–June\, 2021 and September to December\, 2021 (Weekends and public holidays)\, July and August\, 2021 (daily) \nStaycation promotions – April 23–December 31\, 2021 \nWhere: Local tours – Departing from the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal\, Porto Exterior\, Macau \nStaycations – Check-in at the selected hotel \nHow much: For each of the six city tours – Subsidy up to MOP $280 per resident (tours cost between MOP $28 and $518 per resident) \nStaycation promotions – Subsidy up to MOP $200 per resident \nFor more information\, bookings and payments\, call +853 8396 3052\, send an email to info@lovemacau.org\, or click here. MGM Cotai’s Spectacle is the ideal place to take the whole family and show the kids some great architecture but also check out some artistic installations along the way. This time\, we bring you a series of lion-inspired deals that will definitely land you there more than once. \nMGM Art Macao is an initiative happening at both MGM Macau and MGM Cotai where these two properties will be filled with art and food for all to savor and enjoy. Besides the jaw-dropping Awakening exhibition at the Spectacle\, MGM is also hosting the art symposium Contemporary dialogues of Chinese Culture Awakening\, and a series of wonderful lion-related dining deals. Read on to find out more! \nConveying the spirit of the lion\, the MGM Special Exhibition “Awakening” is a unique and forward-looking exhibition\, where Chinese artists from all over the world come together to present their creative ideas in Macau. Many artists have taken the imagery of MGM and the lion motif as the theme while combining the cultural significance of the “waking lion” from the Cantonese Lingnan tradition in their artworks. \nThe “Greater Bay Area Art Symposium – Contemporary Dialogues of Chinese Culture Awakening” was held in the MGM Theater on July 16 with an audience of around 300 guests. Top speakers including Pansy Ho\, Calvin Hui\, Wang Huangsheng\, Liu Guofu\, and Xue Song\, came together to discuss on how to awaken the Chinese art and culture\, and explore on its innovation and revival based on the current development of Chinese art. The symposium has also attracted over 140\,000 viewers during its live streams partnering with two popular online media platforms: Artron\, Chief Art Media Partner and Zai Art\, Official Livestreaming Partner. \nAt the symposium\, Curator Calvin Hui said: “MGM’s ‘Chairman’s Collection’ includes paintings and art installations from various important Chinese contemporary artists. Inspired by Eastern aesthetics while immersed in diverse cultural threads and ideas amid an era of globalization\, these artists create a contemporary expression cohering distinctive aesthetics of Chinese art\, blazing their own path apart from the monotonous mainstream discourse. Their artworks enrich and diversify the ecology of Chinese traditional culture\, hence helping to realize the creative transformation of the fine Chinese culture in the Greater Bay Area and contribute to the development of a Cultured Bay Area.” \n \nExhibition “Awakening”\nThe MGM Special Exhibition “Awakening” is one of the core activities of Art Macao. Curated by Calvin Hui\, the exhibition draws from the cultural symbol of the lion and interprets it through contemporary art\, in response to the longstanding historical and cultural roots and to demonstrate cultural confidence in the post-pandemic era. Chinese contemporary artists\, Xue Song and Liu Guofu have created brand new artworks inspired by the imagery of the lion. \nThe exhibition also features numerous works from the Chairman’s Collection\, including important works by such preeminent artists as Cai Guo-Qiang\, Wang Huangsheng\, Liu Jianhua\, Yu Yang\, Yuan Jai\, and Chloe Ho\, as well as the imperial carpet of the Qing Dynasty – Five Lions. These grandiose exhibits all explore the old and new artistic traditions with the audience and broaden their mind and sight of the future. \nTo spread a positive vibe to the guests while echoing the Art Macao theme of “To Create for Well-being”\, famous sculptor Hung Yi\, presents the public art project MGM Lion Party\, in the lush Nature’s Art at the Spectacle\, expressing a sense of joy and sustainability. Among his iconic animal sculptures in this project\, there is the Mr. and Mrs. Lion\, the first MGM Lion Family sculpture in his career\, which staged a joyous party with other 12 animal sculptures to bring happiness to all ages through art. \nThe exhibition “Awakening” takes inspiration from the visual and cultural symbolism of the lion and incorporates de cultural significance of the “waking lion” from Cantonese Ningnan tradition. The lion represents prestige\, confidence\, determination\, and strength\, much-needed characteristics in this new era the world is experiencing. According to MGM\, “In the post-pandemic era\, the waking lion stands for creativity and vitality that fuses ancient\, modern and contemporary art and culture. It is a symbol of encouragement\, revival\, and a return to even greater heights\, creating a positive social atmosphere.” \nWhen: July 16–October 31\, 2021 \nWhere: Spectacle\, MGM Cotai\, Avenida da Nave Desportiva\, Cotai \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check here \nLion-themed bun at Imperial Court and Chun \nSavoring “Roaring” dining offers\nMGM felt so inspired by the power and will of the lion that decided to created different foods and drinks inspired by this beautiful animal. SUMMARY:Moon-Themed Walks Across Macau
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for gatherings with family and friends during the Mid-Autumn Festival\, and one of the festive activities is moon appreciation. The Cultural Affairs Bureau has crafted a selection of viewpoints suggestions from where people can watch the moon and all its surroundings. Despite the dense urban environment\, there are actually many good spots for appreciating the full moon\, some of which not only offer spectacular views of the moon\, but also the iconic cityscape of Macau. Let’s enjoy a cosy evening with family and friends this Mid-Autumn Festival with mooncakes and lanterns! \nAt an elevation of 62.7 metres above sea level\, Penha Hill is located on the east of the Inner Harbour and the west of Nam Van Lake. It is also next to Barra Hill\, which is on its southwest. On the east side of Penha Hill is the official residence of the Portuguese Consul General in Macau (Former Hotel Bela Vista). Perched on top of the hill\, Our Lady of Penha Chapel was built in 1622 and once served as the residence of the Bishop of the Diocese of Macao. Featuring the spire of a Gothic church\, it has been praised as “a building of architectural value”\, and is listed in the Classified Immovable Properties. Overflowing with plants\, the hill is a tranquil and pleasing place for visitors to enjoy great views of Praia Grande. \nAt 223 metres above the ground\, visitors can enjoy amazing 360° views of Macau Peninsula\, Taipa and Coloane\, from the Observation Decks of Macau Tower. Brave visitors can also experience the thrill of taking photos from above through the laminate glass floor of the Observation Lounge\, overlooking the traffic on the ground. In addition to the great views during the day\, visitors can also enjoy the sunset and twilight\, brilliantly lit lights or the moonrise during the Mid-Autumn Festival\, creating more memories of the trip to Macau. \nThe leisure area on the Taipa Waterfront offers a large number of leisure facilities\, including a jogging track\, bicycle track\, children’s playground\, workout area and recreational facilities. Bicycle rental services are also available for visitors to enjoy the Taipa coastline while cycling. On mid-autumn nights\, visitors can enjoy the moon from the quiet seawall\, a perfect place for busy city dwellers to relax and relieve stress. \nAlso known as “Lou Yun” (Lou’s Garden) and “Lou Kau Garden”\, Lou Lim Ioc Park was named after the son of Lou Cheok Chi\, a wealthy merchant of Macau in the 19th century. It is the only park on the Macau peninsula landscaped in the style of classical parks of Suzhou and Hangzhou in China. Acquired by the Macau Government in 1973\, the park has elegant pavilions\, ponds\, bridges\, grottos\, water cascades\, curiously-shaped rockeries and winding corridors. The architectural elements of its Chon Chou Tong Pavilion and park walls\, styled after that of Southern Europe\, blend in harmoniously with its classical layout. The park is indeed an embodiment of Chinese and Western influences\, which also characterises the uniqueness of Macau’s culture. Every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival\, residents and visitors come to the park to enjoy the moon\, mooncakes and lantern riddles amidst the ancient and elegant scenery. \nAcclaimed as one of Macau’s Eight Scenic Spots\, the Taipa Houses represent the charming Portuguese architectural style in Taipa. The Portuguese residences along Avenida da Praia\, together with the neighbouring Our Lady of Carmel Church and the garden\, comprise a picturesque landscape in which the five greenhouses stand out as the most representative. \nIn 2016\, the Macao SAR Government re-capitalised these five buildings by transforming them into the “Macanese Living Museum”\, “Exhibitions Gallery”\, “Creative Casa”\, “Nostalgic House” and “House for Receptions” from west to east\, respectively. This project has converted the place into a combination of culture and creativity\, with outdoor performances and leisure elements\, making it a showcase of not only the culture of the Portuguese-speaking countries but of culture from all over the world. \nWhen: Ongoing \nWhere: Penha Hill\, Hilltop of Penha Hill\, Macau\,  Macau Tower\, Largo da Torre de Macau\, Taipa Waterfront\, Zona de Lazer da Marginal da Taipa\, Taipa\, Lou Lim Ioc Garden\, 10 Estrada de Adolfo Loureiro\, Macau\, Taipa Houses-Museum\, Avenida da Praia\, Carmo\, Taipa \nHow much: Free admission for most of these spots* \n*Macau Tower Observation Deck – MOP $165 per person \n*Bike rent in Taipa – MOP $10–20 per hour \nFor more information\, call (853) 8988 4000\, send an email to info.dm@icm.gov.mo or check here
