SUMMARY:Edgar Degas: Figures in Motion
DESCRIPTION:Famous for his paintings\, sculptures\, prints and drawings\, many of Edgar Degas’ sculptures depict urban modern life.  During his lifetime\, only one sculpture\, the Little Fourteen Year Old Dancer\, (made of clay and wax) was shown to the public. After the negative critical reactions\, Degas decided not to show his sculptures in public\, and for the rest of his life\, they remained wrapped in mystery. \nThis is an Edgar Degas we had not known\, and for the first time our public has the chance to see his 74 posthumous bronze sculptures in a special exhibition in MGM Art Space in Macau.  The exhibition Figures in Motion brings us to Degas’ inner and mysterious world\, wandering behind the curtains or on stage at the Opera House in Paris\, walking along horse races or peeking into boudoirs\, these precious moments that he captured are with us forever. \nNow you have the opportunity to unveil these aesthetic secrets at the first ever Degas’ sculptures exhibition – Edgar Degas: Figures in Motion held by Le French May in Macau.  The exhibition is presenting seventy-four of Degas’ sculptures cast in bronze\, which were originally made from wax\, clay and plaster.  After the artist’s death\, Albert Bartholomé cast them in metal to display the most important sculptural heritage of the creator. \n“Figures in Motion” is featuring the importance of the movement and human figure\, indicating how they are always the central objects of Degas’ art.  Fascinated by the effect of indoor lighting and human figures\, he always tried to capture extraordinary postures from unique angles under light and shade.  This posthumous bronze statue collection has been exhibited at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg for a posthumous bronze exhibition linked with an international colloquium “Posthumous Bronze in Law and Art History”. \nWhen: 29 April – 20 November \nOpening Hours: Tues to Sunday: 12pm – 9pm; closed on Mondays (except public holidays) \nWhere: MGM Art Space\, MGM Macau  \nHow much: Free admission

SUMMARY:The Renaissance of Pen and Ink – Exhibition of Calligraphy and Lettering Art by Aquino da Silva
DESCRIPTION:Aquino is one of the few artists using English calligraphy creatively. With a graphic design background\, he became fascinated with the beauty of hand painting\, the different paper textures\, traces and variations of pen strokes\, and even the strength applied by different parts of the body. After a few years’ practice\, he has brought English calligraphy into commercial use\, thus giving the art more exposure. \nIn this exhibition at Ox Warehouse\, the artist takes his art to another level by combining English calligraphy with ceramics and everyday utensils\, and by using installations and partitions he merges his calligraphic work with the setting. Therefore this is rather a multimedia exhibition\, than a mere showcase of English calligraphy\, where every element\, from wooden wares to promotional designs\, has a delicate hand feel. \nPrior to the exhibition Aquino specially went to Japan to make his own ceramics\, and also did some carpentry work at Ox Warehouse backyard. With all elements being original and handcrafted\, he attempts to bring the art to a higher level by integrating experimentalism\, art and workmanship\, to achieve a comprehensive result while starting his own creative revolution. \nAquino da Silva\nAquino is a Piscean whose artistic practice and passion lies in hand lettering art\, calligraphy and detailed pencil drawings. Other than art\, he is also devoted to his Judo practice. Aquino graduated from a local design institute and completed his Internship at a Bangkok graphic design company. He has had over twenty exhibitions in Macau\, Hong Kong\, Taiwan and other countries. Last year\, Aquino quit his full time design job to pursue his dream. By the end of the year\, he successfully held and participated in a group exhibition at Saga Prefecture\, Japan. \nWhen: August 14 – September 18 \nOpening Hours：12:00 – 19:00 (Closed on Tuesdays) \nOpening Ceremony：Saturday\, August 13\, 4pm \nWorkshop：August 20\, 21 and September 4 \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, No Cruzamento da Avenidado Coronel Mesquita coma Avenida Almirante Lacerda Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor Enquiry : +853 2853 0026\nE-mail：oxwarehouse@gmail.com \n— \nWorkshop \nYou can write A to Z but the writing is not beautiful at all?
