SUMMARY:Hot Flows: PRD Arts Retrospective in Macao
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition’s aim is to examine the Pearl River Delta’s meteoric progress of urbanization and its cultural phenomena developed in a considerable dualism. In this prospect\, the occurring “Pearl River Delta Arts Retrospective” is introduced as a triennial to feature in-depth reviews of the region; by scrutinizing each organization working in this conurbation\, in the varied forms of creative communities\, collectives and institutions. \nWith these concerning entities\, in their previous collaborative projects\, they have since established a strong connection in hope to stimulate the unorthodox ecology and practices in the arts. In 2016\, they presented nine practitioner groups distinctive to the PRD\, looking at how such formations have shaped the cultural landscape in the region and its relevance for today’s socio-political context. \nThree years have passed\, the second edition of the “PRD Arts Retrospective” has proposed “How Flows” as a working title\, and appointed nine artist groups to exhibit their trajectory of integration as a community-oriented model in the Pearl River Delta. The concept draws on colonial preoccupations with the plume of “smoke” as sources of likely contagion in the effect of temperature and moisture\, the burning “smoke” rising from opium destruction at Humen\, and the noxious veil of “smog” enveloping the complexity of our urban-rural divide; such environmental commonality functions as powerful means to communicate messages on localism as an urban phenomena. Artists include Fong Fo\, Xi San Chorus\, Luwei HD\, Jiu Society\, Lo Lai Lai Natalie/Sangwoodgoon\, Come Inside\, Pan Lu & Bo Wang\, among others. \nWhen: August 23–October 10\, 2019 \nWhere: Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site\, 15 R. do Volong\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, call +853 2853 0026\, send an email to oxwarehouse@gmail.com or check the event’s Facebook page \n

SUMMARY:Dance Theatre "Flights"
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever dreamt of flying – of soaring with the birds in the sky? Flights is a magical dance theatre work for children and families that challenges you to wonder\, and to contemplate our eternal dream: to be able to fly. Combining captivating digital animation and life-size puppets\, mirrors and shadows\, athletic choreography and hypnotic music\, Flights gives full rein to Leonardo da Vinci’s fascination with flight – and the ingenious machines he devised to cross the sky and join the soaring birds. \nFlights is created by Aracaladanza\, a multi award-winning dance theatre company from Madrid specialising in works for children and young people. Led by choreographer Enrique Cabrera\, Aracaladanza has won a raft of international prizes over its 21-year history for its fantastical dance stories told through movement\, music\, lighting\, costume and rhythm. \nIt draws on Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings\, paintings and sculptures\, his explorations of anatomy and geometry\, as dancers transform into magical winged creatures\, or embody his elegant perpetual motion machines. Bewitching\, comic and astonishingly inventive\, it appeals directly to the senses and the emotions\, and is aimed at children over five\, with plenty to stimulate and entertain adults too. \nWhen: August 24 and 25\, 2019 \nWhere: Macao Cultural Centre\, Avenida Xian Xing Hai s/n\, NAPE\, Macau \nHow much: TBA \nFor more information\, check here\, or the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:BOK Festival 2019
DESCRIPTION:From 1999 to 2019\, Macau has undergone earth-shaking transformations. As a non-governmental art experimentation platform\, at a time when the long-awaited LRT (Light Rail Transit) service is about to start\, we hope to explore the gap between the “platform” and the “moon” through seeking theater perspectives and imaginations in contemporary art. The gap is between the rational and the romantic\, the ideal and the reality\, society and the self. BOK festival 2019 aims to bring theatre closer to people by showcasing a series of performances\, including Falling from the Land\, Time and Toys\, Streaming Steam\, Orig.ami\, Artificial Loneliness\, Between the Winds\, among others. \nThe city is under development and people are moving\, heading every day to an impossible destination. If we get lost on the way\, that is more than reasonable. There will be a series of explorations about identity. The ‘BOK Movement’ features seven groups of creative types from different fields who have left their native land to ‘roam’ in different cities.  With a string of experimental theatres\, they will take you on a flight between the platform and the moon\, in an attempt to search for definition/re-definition. \nLaunched in 2013\, the BOK Festival is a performing arts platform co-launched by several non-governmental associations. Taking the polysemic character “搏” (Cantonese pronunciation: bok3) as its tenet\, the Bok Festival emphasizes: linking\, striving\, experimenting\, connecting\, trying. It’s co-produced by Own Theatre\, Macau Experimental Theatre\, MyLand Culture \nWhen: August 24–September 8\, 2019 \nWhere: Black Box Theatre\, HiuKok Experimental Lab and Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.2 \nHow much: MOP $100–140 \nFor more information and ticketing\, check here

SUMMARY:"Tak Chun Art Garden" – Cai Guojie's Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The “Half-Field Project” is an imaginative art project by artist Cai Guojie. Starting from the “Linear Store” implemented in Taipei in 2004\, Cai Guojie borrowed the land development and sales model to sell the boundary line between the land sections in the world. It is a borderline that is a mixture between various “spaces of power” and “spaces of consumption”. In the game of selling the borderline\, the “Half-Field Project” suggests a solemn concept: the space of power and the jurisdictional boundary. Different from his previous “Half-Field Project”\, the artist’s current solo exhibition “Tak Chun Art Garden” in the Macau Art For All Society records and exhibits the continuous re-circulation process after the sale of “a land line” in front of the Tak Chun Macau Art Garden. “Tak Chun Art Garden” is a brand new attempt in the entire “Half-Field Project”. \nThe artist gives up the production control of the work and makes the work flow and spread in nature. As long as humans recognize the exchange of such forms\, this project will continue to circulate over time\, self-generating\, never ending\, and is “nomadic” in its nature: the flow of decentralization (de-centering) process and the breeding of aesthetic characteristics. This flowing line in “Tak Chun Art Garden” has become the artist’s determination to resist the structure of the old rule of space\, “Deterritorialising” in nomadism\, flowing and spreading. This is a new and profound aesthetic attempt. \nCai was born in Hsinchu\, Taiwan. In 2010\, he graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Taiwan University of the Arts with a master’s degree. In 2018\, he studied at the School of Intermedia Arts\, China Academy of Art\, a doctoral student. Now he lives and works in Macau and Hangzhou. He believes that art is to create a description of differences\, and artists cannot give up the power of art in the name of art. The “Half-Field Plan” is a deed to mark the inter-space space and explores the concept of “power field” in art. With the series of contents of the “Half-Field Plan” the choice is power-giving; mutual understanding is the game of power. Cai Guojie’s focus is on the transfer of rights from “concepts” to “entities” and the ownership of the gaps between boundaries. \nAt this point\, the “bound power” and the “power of desire” of the artificial boundary\, these powers can help to oppose the “infinity” of the opposite – that is\, the freedom we desire. He had his work exhibited in New York\, Liverpool and Hampstead\, France\, Paris\, Germany\, Berlin\, Italy\, Florence\, Amsterdam and Rotterdam\, Portugal\, Lisbon\, Istanbul\, Tokyo \,Osaka\, Seoul\, Singapore\, Beijing\, Shanghai\, Hangzhou\, Guangzhou\, Taiwan\, Hong Kong\, Macau and other countries and places. \nWhen: September 21–October 25\, 2019 \nWhere: Macau Art Garden\, 265 Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information check their Facebook page

SUMMARY:Made in China: Beijing Kitchen Hot Table
DESCRIPTION:Beijing Kitchen\, Grand Hyatt Macau’s signature Chinese restaurant\, welcomes guests with its truly authentic and refined Northern Chinese cuisine. Inspired by the award-winning “Made in China” Chinese restaurant at Grand Hyatt Beijing\, Beijing Kitchen’s interior is decked out in rich traditional Chinese décor with semi-open kitchens\, which offer the truly Northern Chinese dining experience. \nBeijing Kitchen has introduced a new home-style Beijing menu for guests to taste the signature dishes from Made in China. To bring in the most authentic taste of Beijing\, Chef Sun has especially traveled back to his hometown during summer to look for the finest ingredients and seasonings. He has also visited local chefs for inspiration in the quest to take gourmet dining to a whole new level. One of these dishes is their pan-fried pancake with brown sugar and sesame sauce. Favored by many Beijing people\, sesame paste is an indispensable sauce for Beijing cuisine\, as simple as a steamed bun topped with sesame paste and sugar is the taste of home for many. Made with flour\, sesame paste and brown sugar\, the pan-fried pancake\, brown sugar\, sesame sauce is perfect for any time during the meal. \nIn authentic Beijing cuisine\, sesame paste is often used in an appetizer with peppercorn flavored oil for enticing diners’ palates with an extra kick of flavor and aroma during hot summer days. By using tingly mustard and sesame sauce\, Beijing Kitchen’s spinach\, sesame sauce\, and vinegar delicacy will surely stimulate every diner’s appetite. Next up is the braised bean curd with dried shrimp\, one of the authentic home-cooked delights in Beijing. This dish is a medley of tofu\, supreme chicken broth\, and dried shrimp. The tofu is braised in supreme chicken broth with dried shrimp\, ginger and spring onion\, and served in a hot clay pot. The heat makes the tofu fully absorb the flavor of chicken broth and dried shrimp which guests would appreciate. \n \nAnother specialty is a succulent combination of the sweet and tender heart of Chinese cabbage then braised in a supreme broth with fresh chestnut for an optimal combination of tenderness and sweetness. Tasty\, gorgeously saucy\, simple yet richly layered with flavors\, this dish is the epitome of indulgence and nutrition. \nA signature staple in every household in Beijing and served with different condiments in different families\, the restaurant’s handmade noodle with braised pork and sliced vegetables consists of three components: pork fried then simmered in a dark\, thick and salty sauce\, freshly cooked noodles and various types of vegetables. Using a secret ground bean sauce from a century-old store “Liu Bi Ju”\, Chef Sun takes 30% of fatty pork and 70% of lean pork to create a rich and flavorsome meat sauce that is simmered with mushrooms for two hours. The savory meat sauce develops a thick consistency\, a mahogany color and the flavors meld making this dish a fiery favorite. The noodles are best served with an array of condiments including sprouts\, Chinese celery\, soybean\, cucumber\, radish\, cabbage\, and spring onions. \nReserve the Grand Hyatt Macau 10th Anniversary Celebration Package and enjoy 20% off for dining at Beijing Kitchen! \nWhen: September 22–October 31\, 2019 \nWhere: Beijing Kitchen\, Grand Hyatt Macau\, Estrada do Istmo\, Cotai \nHow much: Each dish has its own price \nFor more information and reservations\, call +853 8868 1930 or send an email to macau.grand@hyatt.com
