SUMMARY:20th Macao City Fringe Festival
DESCRIPTION:Themed “Everyone is an Artist”\, this year’s Macao City Fringe Festival presents a total of 18 extraordinary programs and 17 outreach activities in January 2021\, guiding the audience to wander across the streets and alleys of the city and enjoy the fun of art. The show Stephen Chow by Ben Ieong\, Anna Ieong\, Endy Leong\, and Carl Ao Ieong\, is a medley of scenes from Stephen Chow’s films\, which evokes pleasure for the audience in appreciating the philosophy of life. \nThe Fringe Festival has spared no effort in bringing creative and fascinating experiences to the audience\, such as “On Site” by Tracy Wong\, integrated into the subtheme of the ‘Crème de la Fringe’ series\, which presents a number of works through body language that introduces contemporary dance to the audience in an urban space. Instead of watching art performances in a theater\, the performance F’art for you by PO Art Studio attempts to present a new form of theater performance\, in which the audience can place orders for food and performances\, and enjoy them at home. Focus to – Release by Kathine Cheong and Sueie Che\, attempts to associate brainwaves with images and encourages participants to be aware of their moments of focus and release. \nIn view of the public’s enthusiastic response\, two additional performances of the program Stephen Chow will be offered on January 25 and 26\, 2021. Tickets for the additional performances will be on sale from December 30\, 2020 through the Macau Ticketing Network; ticket sales are limited to four tickets per performance per person on the first day. Only limited tickets are currently available for the other programs of the Fringe Festival\, and the public is advised to purchase as soon as possible. \n \nThe Fringe Festival also invites the public to convey a love for the community together through art. “Todos Fest!”\, another subtheme of the ‘Crème de la Fringe’ series\, encourages the elderly and people with mental and physical disabilities to explore their physical possibilities and express their life stories through dance. In The Distance between the Ocean and Us – Puppetry Playback Theatre\, marine waste collected from beaches is transformed into puppets\, improvising stories about the ocean. \nGrandma’s Treasure Box tells the story of how a grandmother and her grandchild went through different stages of their lives together\, seeking to convey to the audience the happiness of caring and being cared for. Art is everywhere in people’s daily life. A Gentlemen’s Fight with Puns and Tea is staged in an old-style Chinese teahouse and features various forms of verbal performance art\, including Chinese cross-talk\, witty dialogues\, and stand-up comedy. \nWhen: January 20–31\, 2021 \nWhere: Macao Cultural Centre\, Old Court Building\, Flower City Park\, Rui Cunha Foundation\, Macao Contemporary Art Centre\, amongst others \nHow much: From MOP $50 (some events have free admission) \nFor more information\, check the event’s official website

SUMMARY:“re:ai” - Vernissage & Music Performance
DESCRIPTION:The dual exhibition “re:ai” of Macanese artist Edmundo Remédios Lameiras and his daughter Emma Remédios Lameiras will take place at the gallery of the Portuguese Bookshop. In the exhibition\, Edmundo draws elements from popular social media culture and downloaded different profile pictures of people from the Internet\, and then uses multiple AI (artificial intelligence) imaging applications to modify and reshape the original representations of these avatars. \nFrom here\, the topic of “portrait” is introduced and developed into a series of imagery. These printed works are colorful and the facial features of each portrait have been deliberately “fine-tuned” by the artist. The characteristics of the eyes\, ears\, nose\, and mouth have been intentionally tampered with\, jumping out of the boundaries of being recognizable or not. As an art form\, it becomes a reflection of universal cultural and social phenomena. \nThe artist’s daughter\, Emma\, who loves drawing and poetry\, has chosen the online “Automatic Text Generation” (ATG) system application and entered her own poetry to obtain sentences generated by artificial intelligence\, combined with her drawings\, she processed further and designed\, combining specific ideas of human nature with artificially produced and random text\, to create a series of profound images. \nAt the basement gallery of the Portuguese Bookshop\, what the two generations of Macau native artists want to show us is the combination of inheritance and innovation. Their reshaping of identity\, in this small city full of colonial history\, is brewing energy to invite people to enter the thoughts and visions of the future. \nWhen: March 13–27\, 2021 \nWhere: Portuguese Bookshop\, 16 R. de São Domingos\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:“Stay\, Dine and See Macao” Tours
DESCRIPTION:The “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” project’s new phase starts in April\, 2021 and its highlights features helicopter rides across the city’s skies\, as well as yacht experiences as well. Due to the rising number of applications for helicopter trips\, the government has created a system of drawing\, where applicants are chosen through a lucky draw. The project offers a wide range of different city tours for both residents and non-residents to enjoy. Interested residents can sign up at travel agencies under the umbrella of the project which not only covers a range of local tours but also introduces experiences at local hotels. \nEvery permanent and non-permanent resident of the Macao Special Administrative Region is entitled to a one-time subsidy for each of both categories–local tour and hotel staycation. The project is tailored to support travel industry professionals by creating job opportunities as a form of relief\, while joining industry operators to invest resources in launching remarkable local tour itineraries\, spurring new rises in domestic demand and spending in local communities. \nTours are available on weekends and public holidays from April throughout December with an increase of the number of tours during the summer month of July and August. An array of local profound-themed tour itineraries will be launched at the first stage. The helicopter ride experience–which gained wide popularity last year–is available once again. New highlights such as “tourism + culture”\, “tourism + sports” and “tourism + ecology” are incorporated into different tour itineraries. \nThe six tour itineraries feature elements as follows: exploring architectures at Nossa Senhora Village of Ká Hó\, science learning at Cotai Ecological Zone\, Macao VR/Celebrity Wax Museum\, Macao Grand Prix Museum and Handover Gifts Museum of Macao\, youth music and cultural appreciation experience\, helicopter ride experience and yacht check-in tour. Every Macau resident is entitled to a maximum of 280-patacas subsidy for local tour participation\, as well as a 100-patacas dining card (except for the helicopter ride experience and the yacht check-in tour). After subsidized\, the tour fee ranges between MOP $28 and MOP $518 patacas for the six tour itineraries\, covering sightseeing\, tour guide\, and insurance fees. The local tours will be conducted in Cantonese\, Portuguese and English according to the residents’ needs. \nSince the start of the pandemic\, “staycation” has emerged as a prevailing new trend. For Macau residents to enjoy the joy of short vacations while it is not possible yet to travel abroad\, the project “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” newly incorporates the experience of local hotels from Monday to Sunday as well as on public holidays. Many hotels have joined this project to provide a variety of staycation experiences for patrons. Some hotels also offer staycation packages that include other tourism products\, while others feature partnerships with products of community businesses. \nInterested residents can opt for their favorite local tour itineraries or local hotels from the “Stay\, Dine and See Macao” project at the sales outlets of accredited travel agencies with their valid Macao SAR IDs\, confirm their preferred tour date and time or hotel check-in date and complete the sign-up formalities by payment. \nThe project includes the participation of more than 160 travel agencies\, over 800 travel industry professionals\, more than 70 hotels and guest houses\, over 500 tour coaches (including barrier-free tour coaches)\, over 500 tour coach drivers and over 500 local tour guides. MGTO expressed that the project aims to support local travel agencies\, the hotel and catering industries\, to sustain the livelihood of personnel of travel agencies\, tour guides\, coach drivers and employees of related sectors while providing an initiative for residents to enjoy local dining\, sightseeing and hotel staycation economically. The project is set to spur rises in domestic demand and spending in communities\, leading to further recovery of tourism and related industries. \nWhen: Local tours – April 25–June\, 2021 and September to December\, 2021 (Weekends and public holidays)\, July and August\, 2021 (daily) \nStaycation promotions – April 23–December 31\, 2021 \nWhere: Local tours – Departing from the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal\, Porto Exterior\, Macau \nStaycations – Check-in at the selected hotel \nHow much: For each of the six city tours – Subsidy up to MOP $280 per resident (tours cost between MOP $28 and $518 per resident) \nStaycation promotions – Subsidy up to MOP $200 per resident \nFor more information\, bookings and payments\, call +853 8396 3052\, send an email to info@lovemacau.org\, or click here.
