DESCRIPTION:The Macao Museum of Art (MAM\, from the Portuguese acronym)\, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau\, hosts the exhibition “Wandering across the Landscape: Collection of the Macao Museum of Art”. By bringing together the artistic footprints left in Macau by artists from different periods and regions\, this exhibition showcases the city’s historical landscapes between the 17th and the 21st centuries and gives an overview of Macao-themed artistic creations in the modern and contemporary era. \nThe exhibition is divided into three sections: Section 1\, “Topographical Images: Prints from the 17th to the 19th Centuries” features prints produced based on original topographical images and showcases Macau landscapes through these faithful records. Section 2\, “Chinnery’s Shadow: The Artist\, His Companions and Students” features the works by George Chinnery – the most influential Western painter in Southern China during the 19th century\, and his friends who sojourned in Macao\, including Thomas Watson\, William Prinsep and Auguste Borget\, as well as his apprentice in Macau\, Baptista; these works serve as a record of their memories of the city and their precious friendship. Section 3\, “Traces of Modern Art: Works from the 20th to the 21st Centuries” features works by 12 artists from Europe\, the United States\, Japan\, Hong Kong and Guangdong\, China\, which offer more diverse perspectives in their representation of Macau. \nThis exhibition has an unprecedented scale with over 160 impressive artworks and is open to the public from today until 29 August 2021. In order to enrich the exhibition\, MAM will join hands with the Macao Chinese Orchestra to present the “Concerts in Museums” at 4:00pm on 24 October\, inviting the audience to appreciate Macao’s landscapes in an ambiance filled with melodious music. Different booths by Portuguese-speaking communities from ten countries or regions\, namely Angola\, Brazil\, Cape Verde\, Guinea-Bissau\, Goa\, Daman and Diu\, Mozambique\, Portugal\, São Tomé and Príncipe\, East Timor and the Macanese community\, will be set up\, introducing their countries or regions’ traditional music\, geography\, arts and crafts\, customs\, literature\, tourist information\, and gastronomy. João Gomes and Band\, Gabriel\, Inova Band\, Groove Ensemble 2 Band\, 80&Tal Band\, Francois & Rita\, Fado and Portuguese Popular Music Group and Fabrizio Croce are some of the bands performing this year. \nOn each day of the Festival\, local Portuguese-speaking artists will perform different styles of music and dance on the main stage of the Festival and soft music on the stage installed in Carmo Square. In addition\, the Festival temporary restaurant will serve Portuguese dishes at lunch and dinner time\, namely typical Portuguese grilled food and specialties of the various participating Portuguese-speaking countries and regions. There will also be a kiosk installed in the venue serving typical Portuguese snacks and drinks. Furthermore\, visitors of all ages can participate in traditional Portuguese games\, including wooden ski run\, rope pulling and others which will be held at Carmo Square on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. \nWinners will receive bottles of wine\, codfish\, canned sardines\, and Portuguese sausage. These lantern sculptures not only serve as a reminder of joyful childhood dreams\, but also symbolise a bright future that everyone can heartily look forward to. \n \nOn the Lakeside Promenade of Wynn Macau\, 17 butterfly and hot air balloon lantern sculptures entitled “Wynn Butterfly Story” are on display. The series of sculptures are reminiscent of flying butterflies dancing among flowers together with hot air balloons\, giving people of all ages an opportunity to celebrate both the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day under the beautiful Mid-Autumn moonlight. Designed with sustainability in mind\, Wynn is using solar power to light up all of the gorgeous lanterns along the Lakeside Promenade by Wynn Macau. SUMMARY:2020 ARTFEM Women Artists International Biennial of Macau
DESCRIPTION:As the only women artist international biennial\, ARTFEM targets to contribute to greater visibility of women artists in the contemporary world and to a (re)discovery of the art of women who have played a socially and culturally significant role\, gearing local arts towards international standards and bringing more dynamic and plentiful artistic experiences to the public and tourists. The work by women artists is increasingly showcased internationally; other Biennales of the past also had the merit to expose the need for female institutional representation\, even if these outstanding projects did not survive the test of time. ARTFEM is devoted to being an exception\, by maintaining the project in a city renowned as the location of important international events. \nFollowing the success of ARTFEM 2018\, with over 100 works from established and emerging artists from the five continents\, ARTFEM 2020 features 142 works created between 2018 and 2020 by 98 women from 22 countries who are working actively as artists. 13 of the participating artists are from China\, 16 from Portugal\, 31 from Macau\, seven hail from Hong Kong\, two from South Korea\, one from Japan\, but also from Indonesia\, France\, Spain\, the US\, Canada\, and many others. \nThis multimedia show displays painting\, sculpture\, ceramics\, installation\, drawings\, silkscreen on diverse media\, video\, and photography. The exhibition aims to bring to the fore urgent discourses on the environment\, including its protection or devastation\, the relationship of humanity with nature\, while containing a localizing “gaze” onto social aspects that result from its location in Macao SAR\, the Pearl River Delta Region and the COVID-19 pandemic crisis that affected the world since December 2019. \nThe curatorial team dispersed the show in the Macau Peninsula to allow a “biennale feeling” to its viewers\, who wander around town while searching for artworks. While the curatorial intention considered occupying and intervening in the public space\, the COVID-19 crisis has provoked that the exhibitions happen solely indoors. \nARTFEM’s curatorial team is comprised of Arch. Carlos Marreiros\, President of ARTFEM Organizing Committee and Head Curator for this edition\, and co-curated by China-based Angela Li\, who brings a Chinese-focus; the Macau-based duo Alice Kok and James Chu\, who selected local Macau artists as well as Hong Kong ones\, and Leonor Veiga\, a Macau SAR Permanent Resident who curated\, along with Carlos Marreiros the international selection of artists. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the annual “World Tourism Day”\, the Tray Race sponsored by Macao Beer is set to bring in a fun-filled afternoon in the heart of the historical city on 27th September. Come along for the thrills and spills\, as a group of participants\, representing some of the city’s top hotels and restaurants\, make their way through Ruins of St. Paul’s all the way to Senado Square while balancing a bottle of Macao Beer on a tray. \nThe Race is divided into male and female categories with prizes given for the Winners\, 1st runner-up\, 2nd runner-up and the Best Costume carrying this year’s theme of “Tourism and Rural Development” for each group. There will be music performances and a prize giving ceremony at the event.
