SUMMARY:John Stowell Group Live in LMA
DESCRIPTION:John Stowell is a unique jazz guitarist influenced as much by pianists and horn players as he is by guitarists. His original take on harmony\, chords and improvisation sets him apart. He has taught internationally for over 40 years in every educational setting.\nHis clinics are informal\, hands-on and informative. In addition to music theory and guidelines for improvisation\, John shares his professional experience with the business of music. \nStowell began his successful career in the early 1970’s with private study with guitarist Linc Chamberland and pianist John Mehegan. Both men were valuable mentors to John\, allowing him to play with them as he progressed in his development. Several years later he met bassist David Friesen in New York City\, and they formed a duo that recorded and toured prolifically for seven years\, with performances in the United States\, Canada\, Europe and Australia. In 1983\, John and David joined flutist Paul Horn and Paul’s son Robin Horn (on drums) for a historic tour of the Soviet Union. This was the first time in forty years that an American jazz group had been invited to play public performances in Russia. In 1993\, 1995\, 1998 and 2012 John returned to Russia\, playing in numerous cities. His two sold-out performances in Kursk may have been the first appearances there by an American jazz musician. \nJohn continues to tour\, record and teach internationally. He has been Artist-In-Residence at schools in Germany\, Indonesia\, Argentina\, and in the United States and Canada. He served as assistant director and performer in Oregon Public Broadcasting’s PDX Jazz Summit in 1991\, and since 1995 has been a contributing columnist for a number of magazines\, including “Downbeat”\, “Guitar Player”\, “Canadian Musician”\, “Soundcheck” (Germany)\, and “Guitar Club” (Italy). SUMMARY:Clockenflap Presents: The Jesus and Mary Chain
DESCRIPTION:The Jesus and Mary Chain are back in Hong Kong for an intimate show at KITEC Music Zone on May 28\, 2019. Formed in East Kilbride Scotland in 1983 around the writing partnership of brothers William and Jim Reid\, the duo moved to London before Bobbie Gillespie (Primal Scream) joined on drums and they attracted the attentions of original manager Alan McGee (Creation Records). Quickly earning a riotous reputation on stage\, their seminal 1985 debut album ‘Psychocandy’ would go on to change the course of popular music\, channeling the sneering angst and noise distortion of their live shows into hypnotic sweet melodies layered with dark lyrics that would beguile and bewilder. It is a sound which developed across albums ‘Darklands’ (1987)\, ‘Automatic’ (1989) and ‘Honey’s Dead’ (1992). By 1994 the album ‘Stoned & Dethroned’ was released with the single ‘Sometimes Always’ featuring Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval giving the band a bonafide commercial hit. \nFour years on and ‘Munki’ dropped in 1998\, released by Seattle’s Sub Pop (original home of Nirvana\, who were huge fans of the band.) A succession of well documented break ups\, fueled by brotherly love and internal tensions followed\, as William took up residence in Los Angeles and Jim returned to the UK. The brothers came together in 2007 to perform at Coachella Music Festival\, to be joined on stage by Scarlett Johansson\, for their “Just Like Honey” hit (as featured in ‘Lost In Translation’)\, before fans were finally treated to new JAMC LP ‘Damage and Joy’ produced by Youth and released in March 2017. \nThroughout their career\, few bands have had such a huge effect on musical culture\, and local HK fans can look forward to their highly-anticipated return on May 28. Tickets go on sale **** at 10am from Ticketflap\, and due to the intimate venue capacity\, we recommend fans don’t delay as this show promises to be a very special occasion indeed! \nWhen: Tuesday\, May 28\, 2019 \nWhere: KITEC Music zone\, Ground Floor\, KITEC\, 1 Trademart Drive\, Kowloon Bay\, Hong Kong \nHow much: HKD $540 \nFor more information and tickets\, check this website

SUMMARY:Buddhistson with The Lovesong and Smellyhoover
DESCRIPTION:Buddhistson is a charming indie rock band from Kashiwa\, Japan. Shima (songwriter/vocal/guitar) started the band in 1999 along with Marcy (drums) and Yas (bass). Yumi (keys) and Yoshii (guitar) joined the band a bit later\, and they have been making music and touring together ever since. They have been fortunate to share the stage with bands such as The Appleseed Cast\, Anathallo\, Brandston\, Gloria Record\, Copeland\, Cartel and Andy Yorke to name a few. \nBuddhistson is truly an inspiration to all lovers of DIY! Shima started the bands own label\, “MUSIC for GORILLAS”\, and creates all the bands designs (tees\, album artwork\, posters\, merchandise\, etc.) including most of their music videos! Shima also creates all the motion graphics that are projected continuously as a backdrop during their live show which adds yet another addition to the already captivating atmosphere of Buddhistson. His most recent DIY project was for Buddhistsons latest music video “EYES IN THE DARK.” This is their first music video to promote their latest album “SLOWDANCE-wisely and slow they stumble that dance fast” released Jan 2\, 2009. The album was recorded in Kashiwa\, Japan and mixed in Utrecht\, Holland by the amazing dutch producer Martijn Groeneveld. \nSinger-songwriter Ben Tse and his band the Lovesong have great presence\, energy\, intensity and some top tunes. Their set at U28 would have been very difficult to criticise had they not taken seemingly forever to set up and get ready to play. Even by the time Underground MC Yan introduced them\, the boys still were not quite ready\, leaving us in the impatient crowd to wait several more agonising minutes. But it was well worth the wait. The songs are loud\, catchy and technically audacious at times\, but the band pulled it off like a well-oiled machine. Playing with such intensity\, it was no surprise each member was soon drenched in sweat. Fantastic indy-rock. Be sure to buy yourself their new CD at their next show. \nWhen: 5:00pm–9:30pm\, Saturday\, June 1\, 2019 \nWhere: Live Music Association\, 11B San Mei Industrial Building\, 50 Avenida do Coronel Mesquita\, Macau \nHow much: MOP $220–$250 \nFor more information\, check their Facebook page and buy tickets at Livraria Portuguesa or Pin-to Books

SUMMARY:4.48 Psychosis Performance
DESCRIPTION:Simultaneously piercing and confessional\, 4.48 Psychosis is a contemporary theatrical production gazing both at death and depression. Brought by Polish cutting edge company TR Warszawa\, the play is described as a combination of utter despondency and British humour as it tells the story of a young woman trapped by panic\, anguish and humiliation. Performed in an unconventional format where there is neither division of roles nor stage directions\, 4.48 Psychosis draws an image of a woman feeling rejected by people and God. On the brink of painful exhaustion\, the protagonist decides to kill herself. Written by Sarah Kane\, the piece was posthumously produced for the first time at the Royal Court in London in 2000\, 18 months after the playwright took her own life\, aged 28. \nTaking on the main role\, screen and stage actress Magdalena Cielecka embodies a woman afflicted by mental illness\, through a superb performance distinguished with the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 2008. The production caused a stir in New York\, at Lille’s Festival Scenes Etrangers in France\, and the Hong Kong Arts Festival\, besides various performances in cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
