SUMMARY:Macao Library Week
DESCRIPTION:To echo the ‘World Book Day’ on 23 April\, a series of activities have been organised jointly by Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau\, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the Macao Library & Information Management Association (MLIMA) and co-organised by Wu Yee Sun Library of the University of Macau since 2002 to promote reading throughout the community\, and now they have become annual events well-known in the local library sphere. \nThe activities of Macao Library Week 2017 will be themed “Reading and Images”\, aiming to widen the horizon of reading discuss the interaction between image and reading. What is the relationship between “see” and “read”? This seems to be a perplexing question\, however\, if we put ourselves in children’s shoes\, we will see how images arouse their curiosity and lead them to read spontaneously\, we easily realize that our life is filled with dialogues between images and reading. Sometimes it is through images that lead us to reading; other times\, it is reading itself that provokes a multiplicity of imagined scenes. Both are intrinsically linked\, turning into the source of our knowledge and life story. \nWhen: April 22 – 25 \nWhere: Old Court Building\, 459 Av. da Praia Grande\, Macau \nHow much: Free Admissions \nFor more information on the complete list of events visit\, www.library.gov.mo or contact +853 2837 7117

SUMMARY:Guns and Flowers－Experimental Theatre Work
DESCRIPTION:This theater work depicts the situation of women in wartime and postwar times\, concerning the issues of War and Gender. It is not the dichotomy on women and men; however\, performers are both men and women on stage to show the humanity through their multiple roles\, especially the quality of female soldiers. Regardless of the past and present\, the people in wartime are treated as “consumable”. After the war\, women are even classified as “defective” and hardly could successfully integrate into family and society. Even if women are not in prison\, their physical and mental states are still “imprisoned” in dark corners of somewhere. \nThis experimental theater work is interdisciplinary with drama\, music and movements; in particular\, weaving handcraft delivers another layer of concept “Strings of Longing in Hands” into the play\, which inspired from the lack of resources during or after wars. People have to maintain their life by hard labor work or creating things from few materials left around. For women\, handicraft is no longer an interest or a hobby after wars; they must live on with this technique. Through which\, women could perhaps deliver happiness when giving to someone else\, or obtain some profit when selling to people. The least but the most important is that they could receive personal healing and enjoyment in the process of making. \nWhen: April 21 – 22\, 2017 \n8:00 to 9:00pm \nWhere: Ox Warehouse\, No Cruzamento da Avenidado Coronel Mesquitacoma Avenida Almirante Lacerda Macau \nHow much: MOP $100 and Mop $80 for Students\, Senior Citizens and Disabled Person \nFor more information\, contact +852 853 0026 or email: oxwarehouse@gmail.commacau art \nVisit www.oxwarehouse.blogspot.com

SUMMARY:Native Colors – Works by Célia Rosário
DESCRIPTION:Young artist Célia Rosário opens her solo exhibition “Native Colors – Works by Célia Rosário” in AFA Macau at 6:30 pm on April 21. As a new member of AFA\, Celia marks her second solo exhibition in Macau. With 14 acrylic works that will be showcased\, the artist creates strong primitivism in the totem images on monumental poles and the detached\, deformed presentations as subjects of her work by using striking color contrasts. These are all about primitivism. \nAgainst a sharp\, vermilion background in ‘Untitled 6’ are poles standing in a circle with men sitting on top in grassland\, conjuring up the image of a clan performing a sacrificial rite. As the major part of the work\, the totem image looks dark and mysterious in the vivid\, orange-red backdrop\, with its centre resembling a black hole especially with the radiating red colour\, ready to draw in its viewers. It is the very representation of strong totem worship. \n \n“Native Colors – Works by Célia Rosário” is partly sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau\, Macao SAR Government. \nWhen: April 21 – May 7 \nWhere: AFA Macau\, 4th Floor\, Art Garden\, Avenida Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues N. 265\, Macau. \nHow much: Free Admissions \nThe gallery is on the Ground Floor\, open from Tuesdays to Sundays (12:00pm to 7:00pm) and closed on Mondays and public holidays. \nFor more information\, contact +853 2836 6064 during office hours or email to info@afamacau.com. SUMMARY:Crazy Kitchen Crew for BIBAP
DESCRIPTION:Created to celebrate the national dish of bibimbap and promote Korean food culture worldwide\, BIBAP is a comedy deliciously blending martial arts\, street dance and hip-hop that takes place at The Parisian Theatre\, The Parisian Macao from April 7 to 23\, 2017. \nBIBAP is the story of a cooking competition between two master chefs\, Green Chef and Red Chef\, at ‘BIBAP’ restaurant\, alongside six other hyperactive performers also dressed as chefs. Revolving around the Korean national dish of spicy rice\, vegetables and beef called bibimbap\, it is a nonverbal performance incorporating music\, beat box and b-boying (breakdancing)\, acrobatics and singing\, which debuted in 2009 and has now been performed all over the world. \nAudiences can expect to be dragged into the fun\, with the cast encouraging them to handle and even taste the food\, tidy up the stage and generally get involved throughout the Macao show. Spontaneous blind dates between audience members are also not unknown! The audience plays an even bigger role in that the performers observe crowd reaction to decide the way show will progress\, so no two evenings are ever the same. \nWhen: April 7 – 23\, 2017: 8pm (Tuesday – Friday); 2pm & 8pm (Saturday); 2pm & 6pm (Sunday) \nNote: There will be no performances on Mondays \nWhere: The Parisian Theatre\, The Parisian Macao\, Cotai \nHow much: MOP $480 (A reserve)\, MOP $280 (B reserve)\, MOP $180 (C reserve) \nFor more information and ticketing\, visit cotaiticketing.com or www.parisianmacao.com\, +853 2882 8833

SUMMARY:Overlook the Macau City – Works by Cai Guo Jie
DESCRIPTION:Macau artist Cai Guo Jie will have his solo exhibition “Overlook the Macau City – Works by Cai Guo Jie” in AFA Macau at 6:30pm on April 3. It has been three years since his last solo exhibition in AFA Beijing. This time Cai will have his latest watercolor series\, showing the Macau sceneries in a perspective of looking down. \nCai’s exhibition ‘Overlook the Macau City’ displays a total of 14 landscape paintings of Macao scenery – Mong Ha Hill\, the Inner Harbour\, Ruins of St. Paul’s\, St. Lawrence’s Church\, Coloane Alto among others and even a panorama of the Macao Peninsula – all are familiar to the eyes of both locals and visitors. These paintings are different from his previous creations: in most of them the horizon is elevated to a considerably high level\, and it even disappears completely in some of them\, as in the painting named ‘Camões Looking East’. The viewer seems to have been lifted up in the air and placed at a high vantage point overlooking the subject. In addition\, it is worth noting that the dimension of the paintings has been enlarged to a full sheet\, the maximum size for watercolor paintings. The same as usual\, the painter’s aggressive autography hovers at the top of each and every painting\, as if sitting atop\, looking down and describing the ever-changing cityscapes\, where the painter has indulged himself in unharnessed imagination. \n \n“Overlook the Macau City – Works by Cai Guo Jie” is partly sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau\, Macao SAR Government. Media partners include Hoje Macau and Ponto Final. \nWhen: April 4 to 23 \nWhere: AFA Macau\, 4th Floor\, Art Garden\, Avenida Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues N. 265\, Macau. \nThe gallery is on the Ground Floor\, open from Tuesdays to Sundays (12:00pm to 7:00pm) and closed on Mondays and public holidays. \nFor more information\, contact +853 2836 6064 during office hours or email to info@afamacau.com.
