SUMMARY:Human Observation – Os Wei Multimedia Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Human Observation is a long-term image experiment project by O CHI WAI (Os). This exhibition features his photos from the project. The artist likes walking across different corners in the city\, observing and recording at will the surroundings with a smartphone. Shooting photos in an intuitive way\, he may be a top gun in the group where ‘everyone is a photographer. Educated in visual communication design in Taiwan\, Os abandons conventional photography techniques\, and most of his photographic works were taken with a mobile phone at whim\, on themes such as figures\, nature\, and buildings. The works\, although on subjects unrelated to one another\, convey his inner feelings through visual media. \nHe looks at the world\, at Macau people’s subjective consciousness\, with a focus on daily life and work. Observing others\, he found that man is a strange animal\, always sending messages with dressing\, facial expressions\, behaviors and movements. In Macau\, a city of diversity\, various lifestyles co-exist after centuries of interaction among peoples from different cultures\, creating a close yet strange relationship between individuals\, which is typical of Macau. This exhibition\, combing Os’s records from Human Observation in recent years\, shows more than 100 photos all around the exhibition space – placed in a disorderly way. They constitute image fragments of Os\, dreamy yet realistic. Also on display is a video work converted from images and then set to music which serves as the background sound for the whole exhibition venue. This way\, the artist pieces together audio-visual elements to bring out the theme at a deeper level. \nThe exhibition then introduces the video installation by extending this concept. A mirror confronts visitors once they enter the venue. In such a straightforward way\, each exhibition goer’s activities on the site will be monitored and shown through visual communication behind scenes. This type of invisible surveillance is becoming more and more popular\, on the one hand\, because of man’s need for a sense of security\, on the other hand\, a sense of insecurity – as if binary opposition was rooted in humans\, appearing in different forms in different times. \nThe British TV series Black Mirror explores the relationship between man and technology\, with each episode revolving around technology. The protagonists usually enjoy conveniences brought by the technology but will end up suffering from the negative consequences of using it. In one episode\, most people choose to implant memory chips\, using the eyeballs as lenses to record all the scenes beheld and archive recorded footage for future reading or use as evidence. Such extreme self-monitoring may soon become a reality in humans. Os\, as a recorder of visual images\, is precisely presenting the most authentic\, real-world images with the latest technology. \nWhen: March 23–April 24\, 2021 \nWhere: At Light Art Gallery\, 1 Pátio do Padre Narciso\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check here

SUMMARY:“re:ai” - Vernissage & Music Performance
DESCRIPTION:The dual exhibition “re:ai” of Macanese artist Edmundo Remédios Lameiras and his daughter Emma Remédios Lameiras will take place at the gallery of the Portuguese Bookshop. In the exhibition\, Edmundo draws elements from popular social media culture and downloaded different profile pictures of people from the Internet\, and then uses multiple AI (artificial intelligence) imaging applications to modify and reshape the original representations of these avatars. \nFrom here\, the topic of “portrait” is introduced and developed into a series of imagery. These printed works are colorful and the facial features of each portrait have been deliberately “fine-tuned” by the artist. The characteristics of the eyes\, ears\, nose\, and mouth have been intentionally tampered with\, jumping out of the boundaries of being recognizable or not. As an art form\, it becomes a reflection of universal cultural and social phenomena. \nThe artist’s daughter\, Emma\, who loves drawing and poetry\, has chosen the online “Automatic Text Generation” (ATG) system application and entered her own poetry to obtain sentences generated by artificial intelligence\, combined with her drawings\, she processed further and designed\, combining specific ideas of human nature with artificially produced and random text\, to create a series of profound images. \nAt the basement gallery of the Portuguese Bookshop\, what the two generations of Macau native artists want to show us is the combination of inheritance and innovation. Their reshaping of identity\, in this small city full of colonial history\, is brewing energy to invite people to enter the thoughts and visions of the future. \nWhen: March 13–27\, 2021 \nWhere: Portuguese Bookshop\, 16 R. de São Domingos\, Macau \nHow much: Free admission \nFor more information\, check the event’s Facebook page

SUMMARY:The Manor’s All-New a-la-Carte Menu
DESCRIPTION:Featured image: George Bruck foie gras pan-seared\, red berry and Japanese kinako  \nThe Manor at The St. Regis Macao presents the latest evolution of its a-la-carte menu\, showcasing a range of exclusive ingredients and distinctive presentations under the tutelage of Executive Sous Chef\, Michele Dell’Aquila. Continuing The Manor’s tradition of pioneering the finest\, sustainably sourced ingredients from around the world\, the new a-la-carte menu introduces the highly sought after “okan wagyu” beef imported from Australia and George Bruck foie gras from France\, as well as new presentations of our much-loved seafood signatures\, including and glacier 51 toothfish from the depths of the Indian Ocean. \nChef Michele said that the new a-la-carte menu represents a rare privilege to introduce the highest quality of new ingredients to guests in Macau\, and it has been crafted to highlight the distinct attributes of each\, as well as imparting each dish with a combination of local\, eastern and western flavors. The standout dish of the new menu is the “okan” Australian wagyu tenderloin–delicately seared to maximize the succulent texture and distinctive flavor\, complemented with a buttery Jerusalem artichoke purée\, earthy morels\, and the gentle bitterness of broccolini. Less common than conventional wagyu breeds and highly sought after\, The Manor’s okan Wagyu is sourced from the rolling green hills of southern Australia and was recently awarded a gold medal in the Australian 2020 Wagyu Branded Beef Competition. \nSicilian red prawn and Oscietra caviar \nThe new a-la-carte menu indulges guests with a mouthwatering presentation of George Bruck foie gras\, served with red berries for acidity and paired with the warm\, nutty aromas of Japanese kinako\, providing the much sought-after umami sensation. Hailing from Strasbourg in eastern France\, George Bruck foie gras is cultured slowly to impart an intense\, earthy flavor while maintaining a silky smooth texture with an unmistakably indulgent mouthfeel. In addition to these exquisite new ingredients and dishes\, our much-adored signature Glacier 51 Toothfish\, sustainably sourced from the deep\, icy waters of the Indian Ocean more than 4\,000 kilometers from the Australian mainland remains a star of the menu. Completely re-envisioned\, the Glacier 51 toothfish is infused with subtle flavors to compliment this delicate seafood\, served on a “migas” of Portuguese Chouriço and squid ink\, finished with a Champagne emulsion–providing the perfect balance to the wagyu-like buttery texture and mild ocean flavor of the fish. \nFor dessert–aptly titled Coffee–Chef Michele pays homage to his homeland and draws inspiration from the classic Italian tiramisu\, and brings together indulgent mascarpone cream\, caramelized almond\, and Bailey’s foam with the sweet yet gently bitter flavor of rich coffee. For guests who can’t decide or looking for recommendations\, a showcase of the all-new a-la-carte menu has been selected for The Manor’s “The Long and Short of It” menu\, available in four or six courses and priced at MOP $688+ for a four-course and MOP $888+ for six-course. \nWhen: Ongoing \nWhere: The Manor\, The St. Regis Macao\, The Londoner Macao\, Estrada do Istmo\, s/n\, Cotai \nFor more information and reservations\, call +853 2882 8898 or send an email to themanor.macao@stregis.com.
