Drinking Alone Under the Moon by Li Bai, by Wang Dongling
This ink on paper piece has a length of more than one meter and someone found the perfect location for it: an entire wall and, from afar, you can see the whole painting. “Drinking Alone Under the Moon” is the title of a poem by famous Chinese poet, Li Bai (701-762), who lived during the Tang Dynasty. The ink artwork is a homage to art itself, literature, in this case. Try standing in the middle of the room where the painting is placed and think about Li Bai’s words and take it all in:
“(…) For now I’ll take the moon and my shadow
happy until the end of spring
I sing, the moon swings back and forth
I dance, my shadow acts crazy. (…)”
