Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will hold a spectacular Parade celebrating the Year of the Rooster on January 30th and February 4th, replete with 14 floats and 600 performers from Macau, Mainland China, Hong Kong and overseas. The launch ceremony of the Parade will take place in front of Macao Science Center at 8:00pm on January 30th, with cultural performances taking place in Sai Van Lake Square, as well as a spectacular fireworks display on Macau Tower seafront at 9:45pm capping festivities on the inaugural evening.
The main theme of this year’s Parade revolves around the God of Wealth and a Golden Eggs Celebration of the New Year. Popular singers from Macau and Hong Kong will perform at the opening ceremony on January 30th and on February 4th, while the Parade itself will be broadcast in Chinese and Portuguese on giant screens around the city.
The February 4th float parade will start at 8:00pm in Rua Norte do Patane and end at Ian Hon Market Park. Afterwards, all the decorated floats will be displayed in Sai Van Lake Square (from January 30th at 10:00pm to February 4th at 5:00pm, free), and in Tap Siac Square (from February 4th at 10:00pm to February 12th at 6:00pm, free).
Multiple Events throughout Chinese New Year
Multiple events will take place in Macau to celebrate Chinese New Year. On January 28th at 11:00am, a parade featuring a 238-metre golden dragon and 18 lions will start from the Ruins of St. Paul’s, passing by Lilau Square and A-Ma Temple, winding up at Sai Van Lake Square – wishing residents and visitors a vibrant and prosperous Year of the Rooster!
On January 28th and 29th, the gods of Fortune, Prosperity and Longevity will join 12 Chinese zodiac animals, golden boy and jade girls, five Macau Tourism Ambassadors and lion dance team to wish all good luck whilst randomly distributing red lai see packets and souvenirs to lucky members of the public. The Lion Dance Competition will take place in Senado Square on January 30th at 11:00am and in Tap Siac Square at 4:00pm on January 31st.
