The heroic actions of a Jesuit priest are credited with scoring a cannonball bullseye on a marauding Dutch ship on June 24, 1622 via the divine guidance of Macao’s patron saint, John the Baptist. The day has been commemorated ever since with a festival of thanksgiving, dancing, singing, feasting and games. This year, the local community will celebrate by enjoying Portuguese and Macanese delicacies and setting up handicraft booths and kids’ activities in St. Lazarus District.
