Organized by Cinematheque Passion , the 3rd Filmmaker-in-Residence project will be held between January 12 and 19, 2019, where veteran Hong Kong filmmaker Pun-Leung Kwan – the cinematographer of 2046 – will hold a film talk on January 13. He will visit Macau to meet local audiences and host an intensive cinematography workshop and several film talks. Pun-Leung Kwan is the third Filmmaker-in-Residence at Cinematheque Passion after director Cheung King-wai and Adam Wong visited them in the previous two years. Pun-Leung Kwan has collaborated with renowned Hong Kong film directors as Wong Kar-Wai, Stanley Kwan Kam-Pang and Ann Hui. Kwan works not only in award-winning feature film productions, his enthusiasm also extends to photography, short films and documentary filmmaking.
“Film Talk – My Encounters in Cinematography” will be a sharing of his inspirations from learning cinematography at different stages of his career. Young filmmaker and planner Nicole Chan from Hong Kong is invited to be the guest speaker and will have a dialogue with Kwan about film.
Several films in which Kwan was involved will be screened at Cinematheque, including the award-winning documentaries Let The Wind Carry Me, co-directed with Hsiu-Chiung Chiang. 2046, in which he worked as director of photography with Christopher Doyle, won them Best Cinematography in the 24th Hong Kong Film Awards. The films Miao Miao and More Than Blue, in which Kwan worked as director of photography, will also be screened. To stimulate the interest in film culture, and cultivate audiences from an early age, Cinematheque will show Kwan’s documentary film Let The Wind Carry Me in campus followed by a talk with the filmmaker in which Kwan will share his cinematographic world and the challenges of being a cinematographer.
