For the concert by Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra concertmaster Rainer Honeck, the Macao Orchestra is honoured to enjoy the pure ‘sound of Vienna’. With Honeck as both conductor and violin soloist, he brings back the performance traditions from the times of Beethoven and Mozart. Behind these two works are two Viennese classical school composers of completely different ages, personalities, art styles and life experiences.
The Mozart who wrote Violin Concerto No. 5 was bursting with youthful vigour and showed a special interest in Turkish and gypsy styles, whereas the Beethoven who penned Symphony No. 7 was an older man in his 40s who composed a piece with magnificent momentum and deep meaning, and exhibited qualities of both Promethean heroics and a Dionysian frenzy.
