Macau Vocal Festival 2016 Programme
Solo Recital by Grace Lin “From Dusk till Dawn”
Soprano Grace Lin from Taiwan is to perform in Macau. Lin graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London with performance diploma with distinction. She is one of the most sought-after vocalists, who has engaged in many opera productions and concerts. Lin is to perform with Hui-Pin Hsu, DMA (piano performance) at the City University of New York. The two talented musicians have selected British vocal works from the renaissance to the twentieth century, the concert will begin with the beautiful aria “Dido’s Lament” from the classical opera “Dido and Aeneas” by Henry Purcell. This very recital is to show the musical development of British music.

Opera Talk – “Die Lustige Witwe” (The Merry Widow)
Being one of the most welcome operetta, there are a lot of well known tunes from “The Merry Widow” with charming story. Dr. Sheeva, Macau senior music critic will be introduce this three-act love story, with live performance of highlights by Macau Vocal Association members.

An Evening of Portuguese Songs
Baritone Siu-Hong Lei from Macau, who has been participating the operas from Macau International Music Festival, gave “Chamber Music with Vocal Concert” and “An Evening of American Songs” in 2014 and 2015 respectively which both gained enthusiast feedback. This year Lei is to give perform a repertoire of vocal works by Portuguese composers, i.e. Motta, Sarti, Keil, Costa and Vargas. etc. Portuguese flavour is to be shown from the past to present,

Vocal Talk : “East on West: The meaning of CHI in Chinese culture on performing art (vocal performance)”
Dr. Ying-Tung Hsieh, vocal professor of National Taiwan Normal University Music Department, is titled as “Chief tenor of Taiwan”. As a graduate of Berlin University of Art (Berlin Universität der Kunst) he is also an expert of Chinese art songs, who has recorded and issued an album on such kind. With such vast experience, Dr. Hsieh will give a talk about applying Chinese wisdom on Western music.

Vocal Master Class
Dr. Hsieh will instruct students and singers from Macau, on essential elements like vocal techniques, styles and interpretations.

Opera Excerpt Concert 2016
As the spotlight of the Macau Vocal Festival established since 2011, this very concert is performed by Macau vocalists. Highlights of various operas are organised by dramatic fashion, being the unique form in Macau. The music will be sung in original languages in bel canto style, with classical costumes and scenes, the romantic opera world is revealed.
