Music lovers are invited for what promises to be a ravishing evening of passionate notes played by one of the best known living cellists in the world. Mischa Maisky is coming to delight us with a concert focusing on repertoire by French composers, from Gabriel Fauré and César Franck to Francis Poulenc. Accompanied by his daughter Lily Maisky on the piano, the virtuoso cellist will intensify the auditorium’s atmosphere when he plays the romantic and nostalgic Le Grand Tango, Astor Piazzola’s most played cello piece.
Regarded as a true heir of Russia’s delicate poetry and technical brilliance, Maisky was the sole disciple of master cellists Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky. Born in Latvia and repatriated to Israel, Maisky embarked on a long, prolific, international career which led him to become an exclusive artist for Deutsche Gramophon. Frequently collaborating with renowned pianists such as Martha Argerich, Boris Berman or Radu Lupu, amongst many others, his recordings won numerous awards, such as the Record Academy Prize in Tokyo. Besides his prizes and studio work, the legendary cellist has been playing with many of the best orchestras in the world, like the Vienna and Berlin philharmonics.
Having lived in various latitudes, Mischa Maisky is frequently invited to major international festivals. The widely acclaimed cellist considers himself a citizen of the world who is determined to play wherever people appreciate and enjoy music. On his upcoming concert, the audience will certainly welcome his passionate interpretations with the strong applause and emotion he always earns.
