An Afternoon Tea is all about the delicate few hours post lunch devoted to dainty bites, cups of tea and wonderful chats with great company. The Lobby Lounge at Mandarin Oriental has a delightful Asian twist on this traditional dining part of the day that’s truly worth the visit. Decked in wood and shades of earth across interiors and furniture, it’s easy to forget you’re at the elegant Mandarin Oriental hotel because of the adjacent One Central shops hypnotizing you for a retail therapy. Stand firm though and you’ll feel the warm vibe that has attracted guests and diners to sit down and relax at the stylish sofas of The Lobby Lounge that are seriously comfortable. Sophisticated and unintimidating, it’s not as uppity as other hotel locations but it is consistent with what is truly regarded as a satisfying selection of comfort food for a midday break that’s truly pleasant and enjoyable.
The afternoon tea set is a delicious sight to behold. It’s an excellent mix of treats from the English muffin with chorizo and mozzarella cheese, smoked salmon sandwich with black truffle ice cream, heavenly chocolate brownie with chantilly cream, vanilla pannacotta with rhubarb and strawberry and more. Accentuated by an Asian flair that truly made the selection special were the braised pork belly with sesame mantau and glutinous ball with lotus paste with egg yolk. Every bite was savory and light yet filling. There is an extensive variety of beverages to choose from to complement the taste. In the western range, English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Sencha Green Tea and Genmaich Tea are available for pairing. A variety of Chinese tea is also available such as West lake Dangon well tea, sweet jasmine, chrysanthemum blossoms and more. There are also herbal and floral tea selections such as chamomile blossoms, mint leaves, spicy passion ginseng, oolong and rose peony.
Do not be deceived by the simple looking homemade raisin and plain scones with clotted cream. When paired with raspberry and orange passion jam, you’ll gladly chomp on all four pieces immediately. Whether you’re hoping to spend a few minutes of rest from shopping at One Central or need to relish great food in a beautiful setting, you can leisurely sip tea and delight in a calm company at this charming spot. The afternoon tea set is available at MOP $398 for two persons between 2pm to 5:30pm at the Lobby Lounge of Mandarin Oriental.
