The annual activity of Macau Vocal Association has come to the fifth year. Renowned soprano Dr. Wang Xi, bass Julian Lo from Taiwan, SAB A cappella group, as well as pianist Kok-Ting Chong and Soprano Wai-Quan Wong from Malaysia with vocalists from MVA will perform. There will be vocal recitals, masterclass, talk and opera excerpt concerts, for all Macau citizens and music lovers.
Opera Talk and Creative Costume Exhibition
Dr. Sheeva, Macau senior music critics is renowned for his creative opera talks, creative costumes from various operas: La Traivata, Turandot, Carmen, Die Zauberflöte and Madamma Butterfly, are made by Sheeva with recycle materials for the 5th festival. Except presenting and talking about the costumes and corresponding opera works, MVA vocalists will sing for the talk.

Opening Concert: Solo Recital by Soprano Wang Xi
Soprano Wang Xi, Doctor at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Master at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, is an internationally active artist. With rich experience of important roles in opera productions and prizes of competitions, Wang is commented as “ A vocalist with haunting artistic and musical sense”. As a vocal instructor at School of Arts at Macao Polytechnic Institute, she gains an important role in music education scene in Macau. Wang, with pianist Dr. Ka-Ho Kwok from Hong Kong, will be lifting the curtain of this very festival.

“An Evening of Lieder” Solo Recital by Baritone Mars Siu-Hong Lee
Baritone Mars Siu-Hong Lei from Macau, who has been participating the operas from Macau International Music Festival, gave “Chamber Music with Vocal Concert” and “An Evening of American Songs” and “An Evening of Portuguese Songs” from 2014 to 2016 which gained enthusiast feedback. Lei is to perform a repertoire of the gem of vocal music, lieder in German, by Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, and Wolf etc. Together with pianist Kok-Ting Chong from Malaysia, Lei is to present the everlasting melodies.

Collaborative Piano Masterclass
Pianist Chia-Chi Hsu from Taiwan, master and bachelor at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, who has a nine-years-experience as teaching assistant at the university, is also a winner of full assistantship in opera accompanying and Clara Asherfeld Award in Accompanying. Hsu is now teaching at various universities in Taiwan, with such rich experience, Hsu is invited to give a masterclass on collaborative piano for her first visit to Macau.

Opera Excerpt Concert 2017
As the spotlight of the Macau Vocal Festival established since 2011, highlights of various operas are organized by dramatic fashion, being the unique form in Macau. Soprano Wai-Quan Wong from Malaysia, with MVA members Cora Lei, Ivy Lee, Edith Lau, Keith Ng and Chi-Wai Lam, as well as local newcomers Nonique Pang and Karen Chao, will be performing. The music will be sung in original languages in bel canto style, with staging scenes and new images, the splendid opera world is revealed.
