The story begins in 1942 with a scene of a stream running through the village to the lake, interspersed with images and sounds of everyday life in a small community – a fishing village with an economy based on catching fish. Life was peaceful and quiet where men took to the sea daily, and women engaged in domestic tasks back at home.
“Such is life on the boat …and such too was life in The Village until the coming of the new headman”.
The villager’s resistance to change their way of life led to an uprising. It’s violence being implied by the sound of marching boots and gunfire followed by harshly amplified orders and directives… The children of the village are marched out of school and join the womenfolk as they are loaded onto trucks. The men are lined up against the wall of the village yard. The entire adult population were executed in one night and all 100 children sent to the camps, only few to ultimately survive.
A constant fear of reprisal permeates the village & keeps searching in the darkness…
