Looking for a mini-break in Hong Kong without paying the premiums of a luxury hotel? Check out these five cool, quirky and affordable hotels which are perfect for a short getaway in the city.
Tai O Heritage Hotel
If you’re looking for a much slower pace of life (even if just for a weekend), The Tai O Heritage Hotel is a dream come true! Located in the quaint rural fisherman’s village of Tai O, the iconic building was originally built in 1902 as a police station to keep away pirates who were attacking the surrounding waters. In 2010, it was redesigned as a colonial and chic-style hotel surrounded by greenery and sea views. Guests can choose from a selection of elegant rooms and suites, all individually designed and named after either famous attractions in Tai O, naval vessels or the Hong Kong Police Force Navy ranks.
You could spend your day walking a three-hour hike along a section of the Lantau trail or sign up to one of the cultural tours on offer in the area. If you’re feeling creative, why not try your hand at making glutinous rice dumplings at the free cooking class on offer, or try tai chi. Dinner can be enjoyed at the glass-roofed Tai-O Lookout restaurant which serves some delicious local delicacies and overlooks the South China Sea. Offering a slice of nature, peace and local culture, this is definitely one of our favorite spots for a mini-break in Hong Kong.

The Fleming
If you’re looking for simple pleasures rather then luxuries, The Fleming ticks all the right boxes! Located in the heart of Wan Chai, this stylish neighborhood hangout has everything one could need for a mini-break in Hong Kong.
Inspired by the city’s iconic cross-harbor ferries, each room exudes timeless elegance and charm, with wooden interiors and beautiful gold-plated detailing, while a signature scent will transport you back to old Hong Kong with hints of sandalwood and amber, reminiscent of the fragrant harbor scents. For maximum comfort, each queen or twin bed features high-quality Sealy mattresses and luxury bed linens. Each room has been furnished with a work table while the luxurious bathroom is equipped with bespoke “Shen Nong” amenities, based on the principles of Chinese apothecary. With rooms as cozy, comfortable and beautiful as these, we won’t judge you for not wanting to leave at all during the stay! If, however, you feel a little peckish, enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at Osteria Marzia – a lofty in-house Italian restaurant – before heading back to your sanctuary for a snooze! Kerry Hotel
Taking pride of place on Kowloon’s harbourfront is one our favorite hotels in Hong Kong – Kerry Hotel. Though we admit it’s not the cheapest stay, this “urban lifestyle resort” is definitely worth that little extra splurge! Each of the 546 guestrooms has been fitted with floor to ceiling windows so that guests can sit back and soak in the stunning city and harbor views. Though it may be hard to tear yourself away from the unbelievably comfortable bed (and views!), the Spa at Base Camp is well worth a visit! We would highly recommend the Signature Asian Blend massage, which incorporates traditional techniques from China, Bali, Thailand and Malaysia to relax, restore and rejuvenate your body. Arrive a little earlier to make the most of their Jacuzzi and sauna facilities, not to mention the stunning infinity pool overlooking Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.
Feeling refreshed, head over for Happy Hour at Red Sugar – a rooftop bar and restaurant – before enjoying the interactive cooking stations at Big Bay Café or the fun food hall that is Dockyard. Retire to your room to enjoy your complimentary minibar and a selection of movies on the TV after. With stunning views, a back-to-basics spa, amazing facilities and the most comfiest beds in the world, The Kerry Hotel ranks high in our favorite spots for a mini-break in Hong Kong.
