Macau used to be a small town and wasn’t much exposed to the fashion world. However, since Macau has started developing, locals became more aware of the street and urban styles from around the globe. We can’t say there is a specific “Macau style”; most of the growing local styles are infused and/or inspired by Korean and Taiwanese fashion. These are the latest trends being followed in Macau; not only in fashion but also in food and entertainment. Going back to street styles, here are some helpful tips for everyday casual looks of Macau locals:
Simplicity is best:
Because of Korean influences, being simple is always a go-to look. Whether it’s a big party or a hang out with friends, locals don’t spend too much time on accessorizing their looks!
Tip: If you do want to make your look more noticeable, statement pieces are always a plus point! (e.g. Shiny skirt, unicorn-shaped bag, etc.)
Be best friends with the basics:
Basic pieces are surely a wardrobe necessity. They are anything that you can wear with everything, such as slim-fit jeans, white tee or a grey sweater, etc. Clothing pieces like these can be lifesavers and since “simplicity is best”, you should definitely make room for anytime-anywhere clothes!
Tip: Round yourself with the common trio color: black, white and grey.
The name stands:
Everyone wants branded items nowadays; even an everyday school bag could be Kate Spade or Marc Jacobs. Since more brands are opening or becoming available in Macau, there’s always an idea that most things should have a name. Thankfully, class A products (kind of fake) are great substitutes.
If it’s not branded yet it looks great, then flaunt it! It’s yours anyway.
Sneakers or work boots:
For an everyday look, you’d typically see the locals wearing different styles and brands of sneakers (or slip-ons), the most commonly worn are Vans, Nike and Adidas. Boots are also an option for both summer and winter. You can go for the simple leather ankle boots or dare yourself to wear huge work boots like Caterpillars or Timberlands; trust me, it’s a trend!
Tip: Shoes may be the only piece you could wear without being basic. Take pink Timberlands and fringed high-cut Vans as an example.
Mix it all and add your own
Combine all the mentioned tips above and then add your own spark with it! Good thing about locals is they don’t judge each other’s style and usually take it as examples for new upcoming trends. You do you! Whether it’s sexy, preppy or slick, that’s all you!
Tip: Make your own signature style. If not with clothes you could show it with your hairstyle, tattoos or even glasses. Be creative!
Now that you know the “starter-pack” of Macau Street Style, go on and slay! These tips are to live by, surely what you need to know in order to fit in. Although, Macau style evolves fast so make sure you know what the next trends might be and always dare yourself to try and wear new things!
