As quickly as it sashayed down Fall/Winter Fashion Week runways, velvet is making its way to every fashion aficionado’s list of wardrobe staples for this season, and into ours too! This silky-soft, rich, and luxe fabric has proven to be versatile and practical in a way that it keeps you warm while still looking plush during the cool season. Jazz up this festive season with one or ALL of these velvet items we think are a must-have.
Instantly turn any casual outfit to chic by adding a lush velvet blazer. It goes perfectly well with what you already have in your closet such as a basic T-shirt and blue denim. A black velvet blazer no doubt is the safest options but if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, go on and pick a bold color like royal purple or blue. Head over to the one and only Zara where you’ll surely find several options spread out in front of you. Check out a few options we picked out here and here.
If you dig subtle details rather than going all out on the velvet bandwagon, then a velvet bag is the right item to add flair to your fall/winter outfit. Brands in all scales from H&M to Gucci are quick to jump on this trend offering all kinds of velvet bags you can imagine from clutches to backpacks. My personal favorite is Virgil Abloh’s covetable off-white Binder Clip Bag in black or pink velvet (available here) which, if you get lucky, you may find stock readily available at Antonia at the Parisian; and Gucci’s GG Marmont matelasse velvet belt bag which you can find at almost any Gucci store, also available here.
To be specific, velvet thigh-high and sock boots are the must-have shoes of the season. When the Kim Kardashians of the world started parading thigh-high and sock boots declaring them uniform, the fashion world is suddenly filled with all sorts of sock boots from nylon to cotton to, you guessed it, velvet. We can easily name brands that produce them from low to high end but one that has plenty of options to offer at affordable prices is Public Desire. Don’t fret on shipping because we’ve tried and proven that they ship to Macau.
Perhaps the most obvious thing to purchase is a velvet top that you can easily wear with any type of bottom. Bershka presents several styles from camisoles to off-shoulder bodysuits to hoodies. Head over to the Venetian and raid Bershka’s new collection racks or check out the styles on their online store here.
What would a party be without a little velvet on the side? It has, after all, always been known as something worn at parties. Choose a flirty frock for ladies’ night out and for a more formal affair, opt for a long wrap dress or with a slit on the sides. Whether you prefer a bodycon or V-neck flare dress, one store that you can surely find a velvet party dress is at Stradivarius at the Venetian. Check out and shop the party collection here.
