As the innocence of carefree days slowly fades, those who turn 30 will, sooner or later, face the real world, often taking up a myriad of challenges, from the pressures associated with job competition to family life anxieties. The feelings emanating from this new status are sharply transposed to the stage in The Formidable Year, a new dance piece commissioned by CCM to the thrilling creativity of Tracy Wong and Mao Wei. On a set incorporating sharp visual and sound effects merged with intense notes of original rock music, nine dancers are taken to stage by the fearless dance duo to interpret an honest, almost brutal, contemporary choreography, visually exploring the intricacies of life’s maturing adventure.
Dubbed as a driving force in the local and regional contemporary dance scene, Tracy and Wei have created numerous avant-garde works, from the acclaimed Shelf Life to the immersive experience Les Curious Fringes – Blast of the Cave, in collaboration with French and Belgian artists. Together, they have traveled the world, touring countries like The Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Greece, and South Korea, having performed in prestigious venues and festivals. On their exciting return to Macau with The Formidable Year, this prolific team is determined to take things to another level, surely thrilled to once again indulge our audience with fresh perspectives of their vibrant trade.
