Santa Sancha Palace is located at a street with the same name and now serves at Macau’s Chief Executive residence. Built in 1846 by the architect, José Agostinho Tomás de Aquino, it served several different purposes thought time: besides being the Macau governors’ home, it was a children’s hospital at a given time, as well as an art museum. However, its main purpose has been housing important power figures in the region, such as governors and chief executives. Santa Sancha is built in a Portuguese pombaline style (pink was a popular colour back then), with a well-preserved garden overlooking the city and Taipa side. Interiors are also western-style, while the only remainder of the Orient are some bonsai and Chinese-style decorative pots in the yard. The residence is well guarded and not opened for public visits.
