If you’ve ever wondered how you could meet local artists and the more creative side of Macau, you cannot miss visiting the city’s first culture and creativity focused mall–The Village Mall is tucked in the Broadway Centre Building located on Rua do Campo, Macau. The cool space runs a weekend market on a weekly basis, featuring different themed-markets each weekend, such as recycling, exchanging books, selling local artistic handcrafts and holding local artists forums, and more. It occasionally features live music performances, dancing classes, screening movies, art galleries, workshops on design, art painting, drama, and magic shows, just to name a few.
You can simply relax, mingle and be amazed by the local talents inside the infrastructure. Refreshments are also for sale on the top level of the Mall. Window Lei, head of Village Ltd. is also the director of the Village Mall. He told us that, “The Village Mall always welcomes creative ideas from any generation of people in town. We provide spaces for them to develop their creative ideas here.” A second-hand market is one of his ideas to be launched soon. He added that Macau does not have many places available to sell second-hand products and he wanted to promote the idea of “reduce, reuse and recycle”.
Since The Village Mall Macau’s soft opening on August 1, shops and eateries have been gradually opening including bookshops, local fashion retailers, and artistic shops. “We support artists in different ways, such as providing spaces for local artistic and creative ideas to grow, as we want to run events which are meaningful, and nurture a culture in the city that generates new ideas,” Mr. Lei explained. The Village Mall is open every day from 10am to 10pm.
