Leonel Pereira is the guest Chef for the remainder of the week at Galaxy Macau signature Portuguese restaurant, Gosto. The Chef, who comes from the distinguished São Gabriel, a restaurant in Algarve with one Michelin star, is bringing to the city the true flavors of the Portuguese gastronomy.
“Actually the food of São Gabriel is a modern approach to the traditional cuisine. However, for this visit, we decided to bring more authentic flavors. We wanted guests at Gosto to really enjoy the best Portugal has to offer”, Chef Leonel tells us.
Leonel Pereira is a man accustomed to travel. He has been in large hotel operations in all four corners of the world, including Paris, Brazil and India, and has learned with the best, be it national or international institutions such as the Academy Alain Ducasse or Le Nôtre and Institute of Culinary Arts. It is perhaps, with some surprise, that the chef is amazed at the operations in Macau. “Well I have been here only a couple of days — laughs — but I still can’t believe the sheer size of Galaxy Macau” he explains.
To Macau, the chef brought flavors from all across the country. Portugal, albeit small, has a great variety of food and at Gosto, up until the coming Sunday the 12th, visitors will be able to try the best the country has to offer.
“We have two very different types of menu. One is the Bísaro Tapas Menu.” Bísaro Pork is a special breed that can only be found in Tás-os-Montes, in the northern region of Portugal. “For this menu, we include all types of traditional snacks, from a 24-month Cured Loin Chorizo to Smoked Pork Bread Sausage with Fried Egg. It is nine dishes altogether, so guests are sure to be satisfied”. The price of the delicious selection is MOP $198/pax.
However, for those who want a typical experience, they can opt for an A La Cart Menu by Chef Leonel Pereira. From the south to the north, there are a number of delicacies on offer. From the southern region of Alentejo, there is a Portuguese Bread Soup with Coriander and Prawns. For main dishes, we suggest the Bísaro Pork Neck Confit, Crushed Potato Terrine in Olive Oil and Garlic, Black Olives and Kale. If you are a lover of fish, why not try the traditional Grilled Supreme of Codfish with Chickpeas Salad and Quail Eggs?
Whatever might be your choice, just remember to have one Amarguinha (bitter-almond liquor) while you indulge in one of the incredible desserts on offer. Our suggestion? Go for the Carob and Arbutus Berry Pudding.
