Paul Verhoeven caps off his long, unsettling career by making this film in France with a very different view of rape. Verhoeven presents a controlling female executive who responds to her assault by covering it up and continue to live. A script, rejected by many Hollywood female stars before finding Isabelle Huppert, leading Verhoeven to his first film in French, and became one of the highlights at 2016’s Cannes Film Festival. Isabelle’s outstanding performance with multiple layers won her the Best Actress (Drama) in the Golden Globe Award. An unusual, provocative and exciting journey exploring another side of human nature and sexual desire from a master who is near 80 years old.
